  1. Who said Dalbec had to go for a rental? And why would dealing him mean no one else could play 1b? Dalbec to Colorado for Anthony Senzatela gives the Sox another SP with some control. And the Rockies are devoid of any talent up and down the organization at 3b. Dalbec is no Arenado, but he could provide some fun in that ballpark. Then make a deal with Miami for Garrett Cooper or Jesus Aguilar at 1b. I like Cooper better…
  2. I go back and forth about how much Potts and Groome are really worth in a deal. Sure they could be dealt, but for what? Groome has that big name value based solely on his draft status, but that was so long ago and he’s barely logged a half season worth of IP since 2016. I floated a Potts/Christian Walker deal on BTV a while back, and some DBacks fan liked the idea in the comments. But is it really something they would pursue?
  3. I think his agent will advise him to…
  4. Dalbec might be on the block right now. Several teams could still use him as a cheap controllable source of power at 3b…
  5. I’m not so sure that was the goal as everyone knew one of the most important pieces (Sale) was going to be a minor factor at best…
  6. I think it’s unlikely Duran gets dealt, but there are probably a few players that couldn’t be had without including him (Jose Berrios, for example). Dealing Houck seems counterproductive since the Sox are going to need pitching depth. I think Duran debuts later this year. There’s just no reason to rush promoting him right now…
  7. I did. What other reason did Bloom have to help the Yankees get under the bar while taking on a one year deal during a rebuilding season?
  8. I kinda like Gray, and if he doesn't work out he's a straight up rental. And don't sleep on the under-utilized Cooper. Another name I thought of as a fit might be Christian Walker...
  9. Well, he has power, years of control, and makes no money. And could start on a few small market teams. But yes, he is not going to be a highly sought-after commodity. Possibly not even a lowly sought-after commodity...
  10. A skillset that would make him the lamest superhero ever...
  11. Ottavino's "not great 2020" was not so much Recency Bias as it was a Cursory Bias (which, I admit, I just made up). He only had 2 innings all year where let let up more than 1 run, and allowed 0 runs in 17 of his 22 IP, but with the small sample size, those two big innings inflated his ERA dramatically...
  12. I actually hope they prioritize extending Bogaerts first...
  13. … which he will exercise…
  14. Thinking Jon Gray and Jesus Aguilar or Garrett Cooper as realistic trade targets…
  15. Your logic confuses me a bit, Nick. You want to go all in and promote Duran to a bench role but then be patient with Dalbec at first. Shouldn’t upgrading the starting lineup be a priority over upgrading the bench?
  16. The “act fast” trading method only works if you blow the other team away with your offer. Otherwise most teams just wait out for the best return
  17. My autocorrect confuses Mr. Perez and Mr. Gonzalez a lot, too. But then, my autocorrect is clearly a Yankee fan…
  18. Actually Red Sox first basemen this year have a .618 OPS, worst in MLB. The Yankee 1b have a combined .671 OPS, which ranks 24th…
  19. Maybe he won’t. But his agent will…
  20. Dalbec’s .673 ranks 26th of 28 first basemen with 250 or more PA. The only two players fairing worse on Fangraphs are Josh Fuentes and Miguel Cabrera, neither of whom actually play 1b. While every team has a worst hitter and every team has a 9th place hitter, Dalbec as a 1b is not doing a good job at the plate relative to his counterparts…
  21. Agreed. At age 31, Barnes just made his first all star team. By his age 31 season, Kimbrel had been selected 7 times…
  22. It is. But with only 64 IP, every earned run drops that ERA+ down by about 4. And as Barnes wasn’t the closer, that number can be drastically influenced by the ability of subsequent relievers to hold his IR. Really, these ERA numbers for relief pitchers are tenuous at best due to sample size and role…
  23. I do think starter depth is a big deal. Both Eovaldi and Richards have significant injury histories. ERod is charting unnavigated waters heath-wise. If the Sox do have any health issues in the rotation, they don’t have a lot of places to turn for replacements. Houck - not healthy himself - can only fill one spot in the rotation. Sale isn’t ready yet either and has his own health question marks. So who takes the starts if someone goes down in the next couple weeks?
  24. But your example of Doug Mientkiewicz in 2004 didn’t involve getting a bat. And the request for LHH 1b with a good glove didn’t emphasize it either.
  25. If they add a LHH 1b, that’s not a big deal. Sure Dalbec isn’t the biggest problem, but that’s also likely to be the easiest and least costly fix. Adding a starter is a bigger need IMO, but it’s also a lot more difficult to pull off…
