  1. Sure we would have. The day Mookie was dealt...
  2. Reportedly Verdugo’s favorite position is CF. But I would prefer him in RF and let Cordero try CF. Of course if Duran can take over the position, that works, too. They didn’t move Duran from 2b to CF so that he could become a corner OF in The Show...
  3. Well how much more versatility do they need?
  4. He only made 7 starts and threw 29 IP in the second half of 2018. And in three post season series, he started 3 games and went over 4 IP one time. Just because he wasn’t on the 60 day IL doesn’t mean he was healthy. Sale was MIA for most of the second half of 2018, signed his extension, and followed up with a very questionable 2019. And then missed 2020. It really looks like his problems started back in 2018. And that is NOT revisionist history...
  5. I’d like a pitcher for obvious reasons, but Bloom has rapidly earned some trust. His “reach” to grab Nick Yorke is already getting positive reviews...
  6. Let’s not pretend there is no relationship between owing and spending. The bottom line is the Sox - even after two years of not spending - still have one of the highest payrolls in MLB. Now maybe Bloom will never get the greenlight to exceed the tax limit. But even that is not the same as saying they’ll never spend. It’s not that difficult to compile a team of 40 players making a total of $206 million, especially if half of them are pre-arbitration or making MiLB money...
  7. A heathy Sale was probably looking at a Scherzer contract...
  8. I never said “only.” But yeah, both can be had. I was debating about Robinson Cano as another one. I’d deal him for Price or Heyward, but I can’t see either of those NL teams taking a potential deadweight contract for DH who struggles to hit...
  9. Apparently multiple sites have Ty Madden (Texas) ahead of Hill....
  10. Yes because I assumed they'd be willing to dump the full $46million...
  11. Probably. Why would Baltimore deal him if it costs them money?
  12. Chris Davis is owed $46 million over the next two years. JDM is over $38.75 million in that same time frame. If you think Davis is cheaper, than you are definitely the accountant I want doing my taxes...
  13. So now that I have already seen two pitchers on my fantasy team get injured, I a m thinking I might have to pick up Jameson Taillon to replace one of them. Thus ensuring his season is filled with injuries and disappointment. Sorry, Yankee fans. I haven't had one of your pitchers on my team since I extended Luis Severino to a max contract prior to the 2019 season. (True story!!)
  14. It's not the most likely outcome, but it is possible. A lot depends on the pitching depth...
  15. Well, they will still need someone to be buying at that time. Trading isn't like sex; you can't do it by yourself...
  16. Sure. Maybe the Sox can get Chris Davis or Miguel Cabrera for him...
  17. I suppose urgency is a factor. If this team is awful, which will probably largely be caused by the pitching, it gives Martinez a longer leash to try and right the ship...
  18. Oh definitely. Maybe he can take over 2b, push Kike to CF, Verdugo to RF, and the Cordero/Renfroe platoon to LF. Cut Brice to make room...
  19. He did struggle in 237 PA last year. A lot of hitters did. Spring Training was cut short, stopped and restarted weeks later in an abbreviated fashion. But getting worked up about him in spring training this year?
  20. Why? To make room for who?
  21. It could be both...
  22. He absolutely could have gotten more years and probably more money as a healthy free agent...
  23. That doesn’t make sense. If ERod signs an extension now, it would likely be the same as Sale, a Suspected Injury Discount. THAT is why you wait on him a bit. But then there is no rule against extending him during the year...
  24. I doubt we see any sort of daily mix and match. If everyone is healthy, we might not even see any more variations than in a normal season. We all assumed there would be a Cordero/Renfroe platoon, but even that might not be the case. Gonzalez is slated for an apparent bench role. And while Hernandez is reportedly going to play multiple positions, as they are only going to have a three man bench, this is probably just to accommodate a larger bullpen. I would be surprised if the Sox were anymore mix and match than in recent years...
  25. I don't see how a Kike/Marwin flexibility situation is any different than a Kike/Taylor situation. The Sox won't win it all, and probably won't even play in the post-season, but this flexibility abundance will not be the reason why...
