  1. Very much so. Or not...
  2. Yes, Eduardo Bazardo would be an all time classic name, even better than Cardinals' OF prospect Blake Drake...
  3. Of course, I also hated the current college football overtime rules when they first went into effect. But over time, I have found they make the overtimes more exciting, probably because of the incredible ending to the 2007 Fiesta Bowl. I have my early doubts I will embrace these rules the same way, but sometimes all it takes is that one positive memory...
  4. Yeah it was really unfair that MLB put that rule in about the initial placement only against the Yankees. I hate the initial placement. I hate 7 inning doubleheaders. And I hate the 3 batter minimum. But everyone has to play by the same rules...
  5. Is is strong enough to serve as a hurricane shelter?
  6. As long as it is not to the Yankees....
  7. Like the 1997 White Sox, who were 3.5 games out of first and then decided to deal 3 of the pitchers to the Giants. In return for Roberto Hernandez (closer), Wilson Alvarez and Danny Darwin, the Giants received a handful of prospects, the only two of whom that turned into anything of consequence were Keith Foulke and Bob Howry, both of whom would later pitch for the Red Sox. The White Sox finished 1997 under .500, but made the post-season 3 years later, only to be swept by the Mariners in the ALDS, thus accomplishing the rare feat of losing a post-season series to Seattle. So yeah, that would be bad...
  8. Agreed. When one of your team's biggest issues in recent years has been injuries, Taillon and Kluber seem more likely to be problems than solutions. All winter, I said they need Andrelton Simmons and Rick Porcello (although I said Simmons far more often). Porcello could still happen. But Simmons (.925 OPS) is pretty much crushing it for the Twins while also bringing his historically elite defense...
  9. .. which should never happen, but isalso a road best not explored in this forum. Suffice to say the dome served it's purpose for nearly 30 years and the team moved on. This is not uncommon with professional sports teams. Shiny new stadiums are thigns the majority of them like. I guess it's just easier than putting together a good team for most of them....
  10. Also it sure how practical renovating the Metrodome, which probably didn’t have design issues as much as age and material issues. Would there have been a sufficient window to fix everything with the Vikings playing there during the MLB off-season and probably a bunch of other events? And then who pays? Taxpayers? They have had enough crumbling infrastructure issues in Minneapolis . The I-35 bridge collapsing in 2007. The Metrodome in 2010....
  11. The Metrodome was pretty old and the team owners wanted to move on. New stadiums often rekindle fan interest. (Winning teams do, too, and are actually cheaper. But owners like to do the “new stadium” thing. Maybe it’s easier.) Also apparently at some point Target offered them a boatload of money for the stadium naming rights...
  12. I think he just spent his allowance and needed players willing to settle for his budgetary limitations...
  13. Target Field replaced the Metrodome in 2010. It should have. The dome looked like an awful place to play. The ceiling was the same color as a baseball, and flyballs/pop ups FREQUENTLY disappeared in it. Also the roof of the Metrodome collapsed under the weight of Minnesota snow, also back in 2010. Fortunately it was empty at the time...
  14. I think he’s the only actor to play a DC hero and a Marvel villain...
  15. As he played in Chicago, a city where the weather is determined by a random number generator, Banks was well aware that it could be 70 and sunny for the first game, and then 40 degrees and snowing by the time the second one rolled around. Yet he still wanted to play two...
  16. Plus look at the celebrities. The Yankees have Billy Crystal and the Impractical Jokers cast. The Sox have Stephen King and Ben Affleck. Who really wins?
  17. The Astros did it in 2012...
  18. ... depending on whether or not it is the contributing Brasier who shows up...
  19. At some point, clinging to the 27 rings does get very meaningless. How many other events prior to World War II do people still brag about? Name one other event that happened in 1936 people still take pride in. In the last 40 seasons - and even that might go back too far for relevance for a lot of people - they have won 5 titles, just ahead of Boston. While that would still be the most in baseball for that timeframe, but then going back that far, the low budget Twins, and the perpetually hapless Royals and Marlins (all with 2 apiece) also make the list of multiple winners...
  20. Well, as you are in NY, maybe the local fans have more humility.
  21. You don't see it so much anymore, as the slot money system was created to prevent those Matt Bush signability draft picks. It does happen now, but more so with the underslot money in mind. THe most glaring example was the 2012 draft when Houston took Carlos Correa first overall, passing on the large #1 favorite Mark Appel (who would be drafted by Houston first overall the following season), along with others a highly regarded as Correa, including Kevin Gausman, Byron Buxton, Lucas Giolito and Mike Zunino. But Correa was no so much of a reach, as he was often mentioned as a candidate to go first and was a consensus top 6 pick. But Houston took him because he was willing to sign for underslot money, and the applied the savings to their next pick, a projected first rounder named Lance McCullers Jr, who was falling for signability reasons. The Royals made a similar move, taking Hunter Dozier at #8 the following year despite his inclusion in the first 20 picks of almost no mock draft that season. But they used the savings from his underslot signing to grab a falling Sean Manaea in the second round. Could Bloom try something similar in this draft? He couldn't last year as he had no second round pick (and yet he still made what many called a reach pick)...
  22. I would guess I have been around at lot fewer Yankee fans than you, but I don't think I have seen the "graceful losing" stuff as often as you say. And I have even run into enough of them who think that when the Yankees lose, it is part of a MLB Front Office conspiracy to keep them down...
  23. It all depends what they think is "top talent." If they think someone like Texas RHP Ty Madden or A&M RHP Bryce Miller is a top talent, Bloom will take him. That said, the unexpected move by Bloom might be to take one of the remaining from Lawlor, Mayer or McLain...
  24. Or maybe the Sox will sign them both...
  25. That’s why I haven’t posted in the last 6 game threads until after the win...
