  1. I have been to Cards' games at Wrigley. During the game, their fans can be as obnoxious as Hell as their red tide sweeps through the stands. But after the game, if you run into a gaggle of them, they can be some of the most pleasant people you ever hope to meet...
  2. I did like the NL Astros back when they were all about stolen bases and hideous uniforms. Those late 70's/early 80's Astros with the "orange rainbow" might have been the ugliest uniforms in MLB history, with the possible exception of the White Sox unis featuring white shirts with wide black collars and shorts. And maybe the Padres unis that can be best described as "featuring a color scheme often found in the contents of infant diapers"...
  3. Having grown up near the banks of the Charles River, I can tell you right now one of the rarest things in it is water....
  4. OK, I am not in favor of giving arms to a cybernetic version of Angel Hernandez that is able to make horrific decisions at inhuman speeds. Can we instead just equip them with Artificial Intelligence capable of quashing any controversy with clever and scathing insults? Like a robotic Don Rickles? Also, they would need to be mic'd...
  5. Now? We're talking about MLB here - an organization where the employees once had to sue for the right to switch jobs...
  6. There are security issues with coolers. For example, patrons can use them to bring in explosive devices, or worse, cans of Stroh’s Light that they didn’t pay $11 apiece for. Are you now trying to take away my God-given right to pay $11 for a cup of liquid that tastes almost, but not quite, completely unlike beer?
  7. High school is probably the highest level in which pitchers should be allowed to hit. And if some team offered me a job scouting high school games, I’d leap at the opportunity. I’d probably be awful at it, but it would probably be the happiest I’ve ever been at a job. Not that I respect your Chief of Staff for doing it for free, and I question why you knighted him. Clearly the veggie dogs have clouded your thinking...
  8. Even without interleague games, the DH needs to go. And no, AL pitchers batting in the World Series is NOT a good thing. I'm beginning to think you like veggie dogs, too...
  9. Well, bear in mind, too, that while the Sox have been impressive, six of our games - and three of our losses - were against a Baltimore team not held in the best regard...
  10. I can't root for Philly teams in any sport. And I'm in Chicago. Cardinals fans are about as welcome here as Yankee fans in Boston. As an AL guy in Chicago, for me it is Red Sox with the White Sox as a distant second. Then a bulk of about 26 teams. Then the Mets and far, far behind them in last place is that pinstriped team. If the Yankees were playing a team comprised of axe-murdering meth dealers, I would still be thinking "Well, how many axe murders are we really talking about here?"
  11. If there is a non-Sox team I’d root for, it will be the Angels. But I expect their entire pitching staff to get injured at some point...
  12. Can you blame them? He completely ignored the DH issue and instead gave them veggie dogs!! The only thing worse than watching a pitcher bat is watching a pitcher bat while eating a veggie dog...
  13. Maybe one of us needs to run an underground campaign for Commissioner. You know, start on Twitter and then move it to YouTube before taking on TikTok. Get some support from the public folks. This approach would certainly work better if Commissioner was an elected position rather than a sinecure role decided by a bunch of self-appointed tax evading, caviar-slurping Newport residents with Italian sports cars. But it’s all we got..
  14. You can claim every prospect in the minors will be a bust and you’ll be right about 80- 90% of the time. Especially if you fudge with the definition of a bust. Lee might never make the majors on a regular basis (despite really being just one step away), but that doesn’t make him a “busted prospect.” Now if he gets noticeably worse or fails to improve in 2 to 3 more years, then he will be a busted prospect...
  15. Whether or not people are excited about this guy isn’t the criteria for “busted prospect.” I mean, if your review of him didn’t say “little speed guy” and discuss levels, it could easily have applied Dalbec edited last season. Sure Dalbec did make it to AAA unlike Lee, but Dalbec also didn’t start his MiLB career at 18. And really, I’m not sure “hasn’t made it above AA” is even a criticism any more. AAA doesn’t appear to be a necessary developmental step in most organizations and really for many teams, it’s a place to bury MiLB free agents and 40 man roster surplus. The AAA leagues themselves are usually loaded with former major leaguers who just can’t find jobs at that level any more and the league average age is usually in the 27 to 28 range, unlike AA and below, which are almost exclusively limited to much younger players...
  16. If you saw those same (re: current) rankings 10 days ago, what would you have thought? Now maybe I am wrong, but is part of the purpose of those rankings to determine final standings?
  17. None of that makes him a busted prospect. His “4 years of professional ball” started at 18. And he’s only 23 now. Yes he did lead the 2019 Texas League in strikeouts (by 2 over 2020 AL Rookie of the Year Kyle Lewis), but he also lead the league in walks. Which is actually a good thing. As for why KC traded him, I don’t know about whether or not they gave up on him, but I actually doubt they did, mostly because he did lead the Texas League in walks and plate discipline is tough to teach. I will say every article written about him on the Internet is loaded with praise, primarily for his defensive skills, and many of them are written by people who did more than look at his B-R page or watch some of his handful of spring training at bats... Struggling to believe your claim about being 50% accurate with prospects right now...
  18. Maybe not the today's sprint, but what about the season long marathon?
  19. Hey, 6-1 road trip. Not bad for a team that, 10 days ago, no one thought could hit, pitch or field at the Major League level. Doesn't it make you want to re-read that Tomase article from the day after the Orioles' sweep at Fenway?
  20. Or the long answer. Using the Fagnraphs system, Khalil Lee has a Future Value of 45. The only Sox pitching prospect to better this is Mata with a 45+, and that was before he would miss all of 2021. Houck and Song also have a 45. Now if the Sox get a prospect of equal value, that would be 2019 second rounder J.T. Ginn (a name I have dropped a few times as this PTBNL). Or if the rumors are true about the fascination of the Mets GM with Lee, possibly Matthew Allan (FV: 50). But that might be too hopeful. Obviously we have no guarantee it is even a pitching prospect. But if it is, I strongly suspect it would be Ginn and Fangraphs already has him at or with the top pitchers in the Sox minors...
  21. I’m expecting something decent for Khalil Lee...
  22. And in that game against Seattle, the Red Sox were losing 1-0 after 6 innings, thanks to a Gorman Thomas home run. Fortunately Dwight Evans came through with a 3 run shot of his own an inning later...
  23. I’m predicting the best pitching prospect in the organization will be the PTBNL from the Mets...
  24. Considering one of those was a makeup game, I would think they charged for each one. Certainly at some point. The main reason the double header died was the single ticket price. Shame because I loved it when my dad took me to those when I was a kid...
