  1. Chavis seems to be in No Man’s Land. Not given a chance at a wide open 2b. Not given a chance to be a more versatile utility player. And really not good enough of a past to be adequate trade bait. Have they given up on him at age 25?
  2. Even though I’ve been critical of Valdez, I don’t think he’s a candidate to the same extent as Brice or Taylor. Colten Brewer might be DFA’d before Valdez...
  3. TBD. Depends on two obvious factors and probably a few I don’t know about, but 1) how he feels and 2) are the Sox still in it...
  4. Seriously doubtful the Sox add "premimum" outfield talent. That would involve dealing minor leaguers that the Sox really do not have. Hot start or not, I don't think this Sox team was put together with the post-season in mind. And the biggest mid-season addition for the Sox will be Chris Sale...
  5. Not necesarily. That all depends on who they are. Some players have to be designated as such because of the rules for trading. And with no minor league season last year, there were probably a lot of questions surrounding a few prospects that teams wanted to wait out and see an answer for...
  6. Cordero has been given a longer leash than Benintendi got last year, and has managed to be less productive. Two big reasons might be 1) no minor league to demote him down to for April, and 2) a lack of alternatives on the 40 man roster. The only other outfielders are Marcus Wilson and Jeisson Rosario, and neither is likely to get called up. They probably won't DFA Cordero after one month. But if they want to try another minor league outfielder like Duran or Gettys or Santana, someone does have to be removed from the 40 man roster to accomodate him. They can use Marwin Gonzalez or Kike Hernandez in the interim, but if someone else is coming up, someone first has to go. And if it isn't Cordero, then who?
  7. Or only be used in blowouts when he cannot use his Ex-Yankee Jedi Mind Powers to ruin the game...
  8. That is one solid point about Whitlock that cannot be said about Taylor or Valdez - Whitlock cannot be demoted to work things out. (And a time will come when he struggles and maybe needs to tinker. Don't kid yourself.). So yes, he is probably going to stay hidden a little more often than some might like...
  9. OK but you have to factor in the desire to get to that $525,000....
  10. Chicago’s Javier Baez has 38 K’s and 1 BB. Not a great way to start your option year.
  11. But the goal of every minor leaguer is to be promoted to major leaguer. If a trade to a new geographical location helps in that regard, I doubt many are very upset by a deal...
  12. He’s just coming off TJ. We’re probably honestly seeing too much of him as it is...
  13. Do “normies” occasionally get transferred or watch their entire employer uproot and go to a different state? “We’re moving the whole operation to Sheboygan. You can either relocate or get laid off.” Is that fair? And most people dealing with that scenario aren’t in a profession where minimum wage is $525,000...
  14. One aspect of the Mookie trade rarely mentioned is that so far, the Sox appear to have done ok. Too often when stars get dealt for prospects, those prospects, no matter how highly regarded, either flop or settle into mediocrity. The White Sox appear to have done ok with the Sale trade. The Marlins - not so much with Miguel Cabrera. There were others that worked out too, like the Guardians dealing Bartolo Colon to the Expos (who?) for Grady Sizemore, Cliff Lee and Brandon Phillips. But a lot of others just went sour quickly. So far, Verdugo looks like an obvious keeper. Downs might be one, but the jury is still out. I’m not as high on Wong, but he is just as undetermined as Downs. So while dealing Betts might be a historically bad move, if the Sox can get anything out of Downs and Wong and Verdugo keeps it up, it looks A LOT better for Boston...
  15. Yes!! It was a great big conspiracy and no one will give us access to the Manfred Report! Think about it!! Everyone involved in the trade is gone! Mookie? Gone! Bloom! Ok, not gone. But Mookie? Gone! Clearly there was a second general manager on the grassy knoll (at Vero Beach). There is your story! I might be rambling...
  16. By the time Sale gets back, another injury or two will relieve this potential logjam. This team has both Eovaldi and Garrett Richards; too much health will not be a problem all year long...
  17. No we don’t know that. That’s my point. The bulk of the negotiations are a mystery. I’d be very surprised if Mookie countered with a $31mill offer and even more surprised if it was rejected. But yes, we don’t “know” that. Not sure what the point here was supposed to be.
  18. Would your offer have included cuddling with him?
  19. Do we know there was no counter? Not every aspect of a negotiation makes the papers. No one has touted the “Don’t sign Price and extend Mookie instead” banner louder than me. I started doing it on that other website way back when, before the ink on Price’s signature was dry. But I can’t even pretend I know how everything went down...
  20. Yeah! What kind of cheap SOB owner sets some puss at $240 million limit on his payroll?!?!?! And being fair, most stories had Mookie deadest against extensions and determined to test the market. It’s possible that him signing an extension with LA was just another COVID side effect...
  21. The entire comment was weird. Not really sure Workman had more value immediately after the 2019 season as opposed to a few months later. Especially since relief pitchers are often at a premium at the trade deadline...
  22. The NBA just needs to allow zone defenses and ban triangle offenses...
  23. Also, lots of hitters look lost against deGrom...
  24. The 3 second rule has been around for a long, long time (since the 1930’s) and was put in for player safety to keep the game from getting too physical. Now the shot clock, that was added to stop Bob Cousy...
  25. I’m happy with Pivetta so far...
