  1. Defense plays at any level, but many fans don’t appreciate defense if it is paired with a .170 batting average. And sometimes they are right in it not being worth it...
  2. Certainly over a 6 game stretch....
  3. Pawtucket, I mean Worcester, seems to have very little in the way of middle infield depth, espy with Chavis and Arauz in Boston and De La Guerra injured...
  4. If we're grading on the curve against deGrom, that becomes a blowout...
  5. And that was one of the more optimistic projections. I was in the 80-85 range as well...
  6. That would probably happen if they thought Wilson or Santana or whoever was an immedaite improvement...
  7. With the exception of Ozzie Smith, no one seemed to care about defense from any player for a long, long time. And in Ozzie’s case it was probably the back flips that people wanted to cover. You never saw these same talking heads getting all gaga over Mark Belanger. Even Gold Glove awards years ago seemed to be influenced by offense...
  8. I would be surprised if the Sox called up Wilson and demoted Cordero. It might give immediate benefits, but over any length of time, I suspect Cordero will outperform Wilson...
  9. Much like Cordero...
  10. There was also an argument about Christian Vazquez after his first two years and 385 PA as a Red Sox player, with several favoring Blake Swihart as the starter. Vazquez numbers after two years and 385 PA were worse than Cordero’s career numbers to date. Did you have an opinion on who should be the starting catcher going forward? I did. I was all about Swihart. Oops. Lesson learned...
  11. He had an insane juiced ball season in 2019 that probably piqued more interest in him than he should normally get...
  12. Ockimey is not a guy you want starting 70-75% of the time...
  13. Sure the Sox could run out a plethora of stopgaps. But if they’re going to fix it, why not do it right? I think we’ll see Santana out there shortly, and as he is equally risky as Cordero, it probably won’t be too long before we see Jarren Duran. But for right now, the likelihood of external options is low. Who’s already selling? And the internal options are largely just a bunch of Cordero-types with different names. So sure, they could try Gettys, Wilson, Puello, and Munoz for a few PA each. But will there be a big difference? With the possible exception of Munoz, none of those others has anything in their career that necessarily indicates improvement and none are more likely to go off than Cordero is...
  14. If I’m second, maybe there is merit. And as many have pointed out, he was a league average hitter (OPS+ 99) for the first 315 PA of his career. But you appear to be arguing that he is who he is based on the last 84 PA...
  15. A lot of those feelings were based on expectations going in. We expected the Sox to struggle and be much worse. We expected the Yankees to take charge in the division immediately. That we are still in the lead in mid-May is far ahead of what even the most optimistic (except Kimmi) thought of this team. Most of the optimists said about .500, and that still might happen. But that doesn't make the team less enjoyable now...
  16. At what point are you gving up on Cordero after a little over a month? Cordero entered the season with a .737 OPS, good fr a 99 OPS+. Munoz entered the season with a career 96 OPS+. Codero has certainly been a flop to date, but history certainly does not tell you Munoz is less of a risk...
  17. I've always felt that way, since we knew we would be without Sale forth bulk of 2021, if not all of it...
  18. The problem isn’t guys that could be written off. That’s basically what Cordero and Renfroe are (more so Renfroe). Maybe they had more faith in Duran than we realize?
  19. While true, he is also just a backup at this point in his career. Hey I wanted Puig. He can still be had, but he also has some very serious and bad off-field stuff to deal with first...
  20. Slight difference in both of your arguments. MVP appears to be advocating for another actual MLB starter for the OF. You appear to be advocating for more backup players and part timers. Both plans are better than what we got, but yes, some of that is due to unforeseen circumstances...
  21. I was never a big fan of his, but there is some revisionist history saying Marwin Gonzalez is not a full time player. He’s been a full time starter for the bulk of his career...
  22. I think they expected more from Cordero. He’s never been a star before, but he’s always at least been adequate...
  23. Yasiel Puig and Josh Reddick are both still available! At times, I wanted both of them. Not surprised they avoided Puig. Less so with Reddick, who looked like a good platoon candidate for Renfroe...
  24. He was healthy enough for auditions, and might have been ready but then developed some sort of foot infection...
