  1. Yes. Chavis has said that was where he learned it...
  2. Probably worth mentioning that this happens even from those of us who hate the practice. My own repeated calling for Taylor’s demotion does appear to have been premature...
  3. Brasier has reportedly stated throwing, but he hbasically missed all of spring training. He's probably a ways off. Houck has a sore flexor muscle. I suppose it depends how severe, but I am pretty sure flexor muscle injuries have cost pitchers entire seasons. At this point, he might be a bonus. Hopefully, the Sox jettison Brice soon but I have my doubts. And the recent emergence of Jeffrey Springs may have bolstered Blooms confidence in his evaluation skills, which gives Brice a longer leash. (Do not go reading too deep in that comment; it involves a ridiculous amount of conjecture on my part. Like if conjecture was an Olympic event, I'd be on Team USA and my picture would be on a Wheaties Box after that one.) But if the Sox do add a reliever or two, I would imagine this Brandon Brennan fellow (which sounds like such a fake name, by the way) is probably pretty high on the depth chart. Should we get to know him now? Taylor seems to have turned it around late, which means either 1) my complaints about him were premature, or 2) he reads my posts and decided to show me up. I'm leaning towards the latter, because it just makes more sense. So I wonder how long of a leash Darwinzon has right now. Dude needs to learn where home plate is...
  4. Immediate and consistent. It seems like one 0 for 12 stretch and too many demand you get traded....
  5. I have him in my league, which is an 11 team roto league. Plenty of good pitchers available, but Pivetta has been working for me. Although the WHIP is troublesome. Some Sox fans do prefer not have Boston players on their team. Superstition? Sure. Don’t like the double whammy if they disappoint? Yeah, for some. Every team has fans like that. No biggie...
  6. And being appreciated by Mookie and Remy isn’t even remotely the same as being appreciated by casual fans and diehard fans, and even many advanced metric types. If you poke around about Cordero, you can find he was also very much appreciated by scouts and MLB people for a long time for his defensive play and his offensive tools. But that hasn’t stopped anyone from being disappointed with him this year. Including you, who has called me out for reminding people that the guy has had better numbers before and at the MLB level. It’s not exactly fair to give players like Bradley credit for collegiate performance but disregard anything Cordero did in MLB just because it wasn’t in Boston...
  7. Duran is very likely behind the injured players on the depth chart. When Hernandez and Arroyo return, Arauz and perhaps Cordero might be the ones demoted...
  8. Using message boards as a representative sample, most called for him gone based on his hitting, which took a long time to come around. My expectations dropped and frequently called him “the next Darren Lewis”, a player I always felt was unappreciated because he was primarily a defensive player. But then many people didn’t like Darren Lewis because, well, he was primarily a defensive player. Cordero isn’t playing GG defense, but even if he was, many would still want him replaced. If he was OPSing 1.200 and playing Dwayne Hosey defense out there, plenty of people would be defending him, assuming the issue came up at all. Heck, some people project elite defense on mediocre to bad fielders if they are elite hitters who make routine plays most of the time. This happened to Bogaerts on this board just last week...
  9. And yet fans still called for his removal the whole time...
  10. Cordero has had 87 plate appearnces. Jackie Bradley floundered for 2 years and 530 PA with an OPS+ of 53 and still got chances...
  11. And that justifies the ends...
  12. It will never be imporant...
  13. I find him disappointing since his arm strength does not match his name...
  14. And yet hear we are...
  15. Agree on most counts. I think Seabold might make an appearance this year in the event of injury...
  16. He means on the 40 man roster. The Sox are much, much more likely to move Mata to the 60 day IL. Also, they could demote Arauz from the 25 man......
  17. You think the Sox are going to DFA Whitlock - which they cannot do, they can only return him to the Yankees - because of 7 bad innings?
  18. With jacko, you’re either Cal Ripken or you’re Mickey Klutts. Nothing in between. (For those unfamiliar with Gene Ellis “Mickey” Klutts, he’s often called “the most appropriately named player in baseball history.” In his 8 year career, he spent more days on the Disabled List than his career at bats total. He also might be the most glaring omission from the “Fun With Baseball Names” thread...)
  19. Even if duran comes up and works out. Cordero/Renfroe in LF, Duran in CF and Verdugo in Rf might be the best possible OF given the current players available, assuming Duran does not disappoint...
  20. Jeter is probably not a SS long term. He really doesn’t have the arm. 2b seems like a better fit. But if he plays SS in Worcester, I am not going to look too deeply at it. As for Sox minor league SS depth, the best defensive shortstop between Bogaerts and Matthew Lugo is probably Jeremy Rivera. And he’s about as fringey as it gets prospect-wise. In MLB, he’d probably make Franchy Cordero look like Tony Gwynn at the plate...
  21. While not always ideal, sometimes players in AA and AAA don’t play the same position in MLB. Rookie Jazz Chisholm is off to a flying start in Miami as their 2b despite spending the overwhelming bulk of his MiLB career at short. The Marlins probably anticipated him at short and highly ranked prospect Isan Diaz at 2b. But Diaz has been a flop and career utility infielder Miguel Rojas has been hit as the starting shortstop. So Chisholm slid into the new role...
  22. Is ERod really the de facto team ace in the absence of Sale? Eovaldi has been the best using FIP. Pivetta leads the rotation in W-L record and ERA. Richards has been the most effective after a slow start. So yes, the “ace” situation in Boston is the worst in the East, with Cole, Means, Glasnow and Ryu all outperforming every Boston starter. But can the other rotations stack up depth-wise? A win in game 4 of a series counts as much as a win in game 1...
  23. 85% of which will involve Franchy. Or in some cases, Frenchy...
  24. True. No one wants Billy Hamilton. So Billy Hamilton, But Slower just doesn’t get ‘em all worked up...
