Hey they got a .730 OPS from Rizzo, a .650 OPS from Gallo and an ERA over 6 from Heaney in those deals. It does make one wonder how they actually got any better...

It's just a lot easier to recognize a AAA slider, apparently. Those MLB pitchers are just a whole new level. Dalbec defintely has an uncertain future in Boston, but that doesn't mean he is now trade bait. I'd deal Duran before Dalbec...

Hand has actually been about the same for Toronto than Robles has been for Boston. Hand has a 7.27 ERA, 1.846 WHIP, 1.102 OPSA. Robles has a 7.30 ERA, 2.027 WHIP .950 OPSA. For both pitchers, those numbers are largely carried by 3 outings with their new teams...

Especially since Dalbec’s OPS is over .500 points better than Rizzo’s since the deadline. For an improvement of 500 OPS points, does the difference in defense make up for it?

His 5.6 hits/9 and his 10.2 K/9 in Pitt are both god numbers. But then his 4.7BB/9 and his 1.9 HR/9 are pretty bad, to be kind. That he only gave up 5.6 hits per 9 innings but 1.9 of them are home runs is actually kind of scary. 1 out of every 3 hits left the yard?

I’d say the opt out is very likely, due to his agent’s preferred tactic of getting players into free agency as quick as possible. Is there any reason one could think of for X to not opt out? I know he simply might prefer Boston. Hey, he might. But then he did not hire Scott Boras because he was prioritizing the status quo…

It’s just a thought, not some MLB rumor. The reason to suspect he might get dealt is he probably has one year left. The reason to think he won’t be dealt is, the Tampa way Bloom has used in the past is to deal players with multiple years left, allowing for a better return. That Bloom held Xander this off-season knowing he would be without Sale, intentionally keeping payroll below the reset line, and probably expecting the team to improve but not compete all suggests dealing Xander would have made more sense (using the Tampa Bay Way) 8 months ago as opposed to this off-season, so it’s probably not going to happen this year. Still, with a lot of shuffling and re-shuffling of the stars at his position this off-season, it leaves the question “is it the right time to move Xander due to a potential demand or the exact wrong time due to all the other options in free agency?”

I have serious doubts. However, if the right deal can be struck, he should. And as mentioned 2 posts earlier, there may be a decent amount of teams looking for SS help. Just don't deal him to the Yankees. (Personally, I'd rather the team find a SP by moving Duran. More teams will be interested and willing to give up a SP, I'm not wild about Duran, and Hernandez or Verdugo can take over CF.)

Disagree. A lot of ballparks have some bad seats. I'm a bit spoiled because growing up, my dad had access to seats halfway down the first baseline about 8 rows back. But I've sat all over that ballpark (except atop the monster) and yes, if you're towards the back it can be awful. But I've stood in the SRO areas in deep RF and enjoyed it. and sitting right next to Pesky's Pole is the best place to watch from. The back seats in the lower levels suck, but that's true for a lot of ballparks. Now, I've gone to Wrigley and Comiskey/US Cellular/Guranteed Rate Field alot, too. Wrigley seating is nowhere as good as Fenway, especially in the OF. And until Theo took over and moved the scoreboard (angering the neighbors who sold roof top seats), it was not as easy to see. And GRF used to have the steepest seating in the upper levels. It was like climbing a ladder on those stairs.. -
It is odd, although half of that differential happened in two games (16-1 loss to the Padres and 15-1 loss to the Astros)...

For all the talk and (very legitimate) worries about Barnes, his struggles only encompass 5.2 IP and 10 games. 5.2 IP is one bad start. He's 31 and only signed a two year extension. He might never be the pitcher he was for the first 4 months of 2021 again, but even of he returns to being the pitcher he was in 2019, it will still be a win...

Well, teams that could spend at SS include the Yankees, Cubs, Astros, Angels, Phillies, Giants, Nationals and Cardinals. And there has been a long-standing rumor that the Rangers cleared out Andrus and temporarily installed IKF at SS in order to clear the way for Texas native Trevor Story....

He's another excelllebt candidate. I like Simmons' defense better, but that's no slight to Iglesias. But then unless Bloom deals Bogaerts, I think we know who will be at SS...

It’s not a gamble but the criteria Tomase used to judge some of his deals was crap. Holmes and Davis were essentially the same pitchers in Pittsburgh, and actually Davis was arguably better. That Holmes has pitched better since the deal is just hindsight…

If I had to guess, I would think these types of deals are allowed to prevent players from stagnating in the minors while actual positions in MLB in other orgs are possible…
