    The Sox bullpen is average. They rank in the middle of the pack using any metric you like - ERA, fWAR, FIP, xFIP. The problem is still a lineup that hasn’t scored as many as 4 runs in a game for 8 straight games. That this average bullpen has more fWAR than the offense should speak volumes about where the trouble is, and one game doesn’t change this…

    The 2013 rotation was basically the last place 2012 rotation, but with the sole addition of Ryan Dempster. Lackey did come back after missing 2012, but given his awful 2011 season, he headed the list of question marks…

    But the perception is the offense has star players and money has been spent there, so the feeling is they will come around. But the pitching staff lacks the stars and lacks the money being spent, so they’re the problem. And given the track records of all the players on the roster, the pitching did appear to have more question marks. Especially if Sale is declining..
