  1. I think Oakland will be a prime trading partner. After this season, the following Oakland players are due for raises in arbitration: Matt Chapman, Matt Olson, Ramon Laureano, Chris Bassitt, Frankie Montas, Sean Manaea, and Chad Pinder, and Lou Trivino and a few others. No way they can keep them all, and probably a huge factor in why they acquired short term money in Starling Marte at the deadline. I figure they could easily reach agreements with Bassitt and Pinder and will desperately try to work something out with Chapman. But they might be trading some/all of the rest for financial reasons. Since Marte (and Mark Canha!) will obviously be moving on, and Laureano might as well, a Jarren Duran/Frankie Montas deal in some form might make sense for both teams. (They are unlikely to be as interested in Verdugo over Duran, since Verdugo is also arbitration-eligible.)
  2. I’m 60/40 on JD staying but I think 0% Schwarber exercises his part of the option…
  3. IMO the most likely scenario is the Sox have JD and Schwarber moves on…
  4. I still think he’s a starter in Boston. The Schwarber/Martinez element is far from settled. While some are posting contingencies for how to squeeze both into the lineup, there is also a chance the Sox enter 2022 with neither. Until JD exercises his option, there is a possibility that he simply does not. There are certainly reasons he should, but also reasons he shouldn’t. And Schwarber, as much as we all want him back, is extremely unlikely to exercise his half of the mutual option. He’s having his best season since 2018 and could finish with his best season of his career. And that begs another question fir Bloom - should he pursue Schwarber in free agency after a potential career best season?
  5. That applies to every player on the team…
  6. I don’t think it’s quite time to give up on Verdugo just yet. Even with Renfroe in RF for another year, the Sox farm doesn’t have much for corner OF. I’d much prefer Verdugo out there than Duran for several reasons…
  7. Verdugo still grades out well in LF, but in CF he is for Emergency Use Only. But after watching him out there yesterday, it became obvious why he remained healthy. Even if he was exposed to the coronavirus, he’d misplay it…
  8. Lopez is a 28yo career minor leaguer who has been in the KC and Braves farm systems since 2012. Motter isn’t an exciting player, but he has at least been good enough to make 4 different MLB teams. While he has probably peaked as an “up and down” player, unlike Lopez, he at least has been in the “up” part of that roller coaster. Neither of these guys have much claim to being org guys for Boston and both are pretty much stiffs. Lopez probably should have been kept because he can at least field well and that fills a weakness for the Sox, but both have massive flaws and neither can fill the void of any MLB starter properly…
  9. But sometimes the luck you make isn’t good luck…
  10. When you put it that way, I’m not even sure he has ears…
  11. Some of that might fall on Cora…
  12. Music to Taylor Motter’s ears…
  13. No. Not having a capable CF hurt the Sox defense. Verdugo wasn’t in CF to squeeze both bats in the lineup. He was in CF because there were no other options to play out there except Franchy Cordero. Maybe instead of Iglesias or Motter, the Sox should have held on to Delino DeShields. Or called up Jeisson Rosario..
  14. And the score should have been 9-4 to start the inning…
  15. Yesterday's game wasn't lost by the closer. It should have never been close enough for the closer to matter...
  16. There is probably also the matter of who Bogaerts can get in a trade. I imagine the Sox will explore trades for him this off-season, since he is very likely to opt out after 2022 anyway...
  17. Well he has a lot of issues, but at least he doesn't have COVID (as far as I know)...
  18. His day was so awful it actually made the pitching much worse…
  19. Even that outfield would be worse if Bradley went down with COVID…
  20. Relief pitching ain’t easy…
  21. He’s probably minutes away from signing some unemployed guys like Addison Russell and Daniel Descalso…
  22. Verdugo actually gave up more runs in the first 9 innings than the pitching staff did…
  23. Guessing this will be about 14-9 soon
  24. Fun comment on a day in which Arauz has a home run and Iglesias made a game-tying error…
  25. Arauz also options remaining so he might be sent down. And Arroyo isn’t bench player…
