  1. Or 25? I can see leaving Plawecki off, but the rest have no excuse!!
  2. I do keep my smack talk largely based in the current season. At least until they break out that “27 rings” ********. Like those titles in the 1920s and 30s are supposed to be relevant today!? At the very least, trash talk needs to be limited to our current lifetimes, and nothing from before there were even 50 states is going to have much sting with me…
  3. In 2003, the attitude was “just once before I die.” Bill Simmons even titled a book similarly “Now I Can Die In Peace.” But after a few titles and a string of winning seasons, suddenly anything short of a title seems to be viewed as a failure to far too many…
  4. I’ll change my thoughts when they invite me to ride a parade float. I justify my fandom to nobody…
  5. Agreed. Titles are fun. But let’s get real - not like I benefit from them beyond my viewing enjoyment. And if I enjoy July, August and September, a lousy October can’t take that away…
  6. I have serious doubts that Gilberto Jimenez (86Ks in 408 PA in A ball and has no power) is going to be put on the 40 man roster. Not so sure he is high on anyone’s Rule 5 radar just yet…
  7. It will depend heavily on his estimated arbitration asking price. If the Sox think Plawecki will price himself out of a backup catcher role, they might non-tender him…
  8. Considering a lot of people pegged them for 75 wins back in March and even lowered that total after the 0-3 start due to being swept by lowly Baltimore, that this team is going to win somewhere in between 86 and 97 games should be a victory of sorts and certainly has made them enjoyable to watch over the last 148 game stretch…
  9. I still think Rivera gets overrated based on being on Yankee title teams. If you look at 1998 through 2003, a span in which the Yankees appeared in 5 World Series in 6 season, the largely unheralded Rob Nen actually had more fWAR than Rivera (12.9 to 12.4). This certainly doesn’t make Rivera bad at his job by any stretch, but I think his being the first unanimous choice for Cooperstown over, say, Cal Ripken or Junior Griffey, somewhat laughable. If Rivera was on the Giants like Nen was, would he have been voted in unanimously?
  10. The Yankees couldn’t hit on a soft 16 right now…
  11. Dan Quisenberry was one of the earlier “closer” labels I recall. But even he often topped 100 innings per season early on…
  12. Sutter threw 1042 career inning in just 661 games. I would not call him a one inning specialist. Even as late as 1984, he threw 122 IP in 71 appearances. With Oakland, Eckersley had 523 relief appearances and only 625 IP. Compared to Sutter, that’s over 400 fewer IP in just 140 fewer appearances. Much closer to the one inning specialist we see today.
  13. Maybe his deadline plan wasn’t so horrible after all?
  14. Well, maybe only for one more month...
  15. 1. You counted 3 options, but really only should have been 2: Vaz and JD. Perez, and likely Richards and Schwarber are all gone. 2. There really are not many free agents worth going all in that the Sox need, but typically a team will only DFA players upon actually signing one. So you can probably add 7 players to original list and then they get removed one by one as anyone signs or is acquired via trade for a non-roster player (although quite often at least one 40-man roster player is included for this reason). 3. ERod likely gets a QO. Also he likely passes and hits the market...
  16. Cleveland put 7 on the Yankees in the 5th inning. Lead 8-0…
  17. I’d be surprised to see Bloom just give up on Potts and Rosario so quickly. He struggled a bit in AA at 20 years old, did not play at all in 2020, and then struggled in AA again at 22. He’s still young for his level by nearly 2 years. And Rosario is in AA and is even younger and was never a “bat first” guy to begin with. And DFA Arauz?!?!
  18. It would bother me if Santana stuck around for another season in any capacity above maybe manning the phones for ticket sales…
  19. Would not bother me one bit if Shaw and Iglesias both stuck around for another season in some capacity…
  20. There may be non-tenders, too. Possibly Brasier, Plawecki and Rios. Although they also might be re-signed for less…
  21. So… you’d be a s***** ump? I’ve seen bad umps and made my share of Angel Hernandez jokes, but at least he sucks for both teams. OTOH at least you admit you’d be biased…
  22. So maybe a Quasimodo hater?
  23. So this is like a prequel to Bumblebee, which was a prequel to the Transformers movie, which was a prequel to Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, which was a prequel to Transformers: Dark of the Night, which was a prequel to… you get the idea…
  24. The cars turn into pedestrians?? Like some freakish hybrid mix of a Transformer and a werewolf???
  25. I can’t get too mad about this COVID outbreak on the Sox. It’s at least nice to see our defenders catch something…
