  1. I would. Volpe has only played A ball. No one should ever even think about a prospect until they reach AA…
  2. That’s possible. So you think signing a 31yo shortstop for 5 years is better than signing a 27yo shortstop for 10? At what point do peak years matter?
  3. MLB had the same issue with the advent of artificial turf, the proliferation of the slider, the reduction of the mound, and, heck, the additions of the foul pole and ground rule doubles. All these changes had significant impacts on stats. And all of them were ignored in this regard…
  4. And Bloom was asleep at the wheel again. And just out of curiousity, who is Drew VerHagen?
  5. It would be phenomenal stupid to build a roster to hold a place for a player who might not even see MLB for 3-4 years. Casas was drafted out of high school 4 years ago and has yet to debut. A lot can happen between now and Mayer’s debut. He may not develop. His defense might not be as advertised. He might get injured a lot. He might need to be dealt for pitching. If the Sox have too many shortstops in 2026, there will be options then. But they will need someone at shortstop in 2023, 2024 and 2025 first…
  6. Doubtful. We’re all making those accusations with no proof anyway…
  7. That’s ok. Neither will I. With 15 new positions opening, I could see JD getting moved. I put the Mets as the most likely interested party, since Cohen has let his team spend like mad…
  8. Here meaning Florida, Boston, or the Talksox forum?
  9. The Sox didn’t promote Devers to Boston after 107 plate appearances in rookie ball…
  10. The notion that the Sox should ignore shortstop because they have Mayer is an even greater stretch than saying the Sox should ignore pitchers because they have Bello…
  11. Mayer shouldn’t be a factor. The Sox aren’t going to staff their 2022 roster to accommodate a kid who graduated high school in 2021. We really don’t know what is anti-Bloom, since this is the first time he will have access to money..
  12. I think a trade of Luke Voit for Paul DeJong makes sense. The Cardinals have reportedly soured on DeJong but he remains an excellent fielder who’d probably bat 8th or 9th in NY. Voit could walk into the DH role in St. Louis, and his departure clears up a very muddled NY infield and leaves them with their best defensive alignment (LeMahieu at 1b, Torres at 2b, Urshela at 3b, and DeJong at SS)…
  13. Also most 2b lack the same throwing arm as shortstops, meaning that just fielding the grounder makes for a more difficult play…
  14. If the 2b is playing SS and the SS is in short left field (thus mirroring a shift vs LHB), then the 1b has to cover the entire right side of the infield and still be able to take a throw at 1b. In a shift vs LHB, the third baseman doesn’t have that same level of responsibility. Sure he has the entire left side, but he doesn’t also have to cover 3b…
  15. Not if he lost $4billion between your searches!!!
  16. Sure. It’s happened before. Philadelphia is an ideal landing spot. They can use. Bogaerts to buy time for Bryson Stott. (The Yankees are in a similar position with Volpe and Peraza, but I consider that less likely.). An acquiring team might try to extend Bogaerts. And if they do, so? Bloom will probably only trade him if he gets a replacement now like Correa or Story, which would mean Bogaerts was gone anyway…
  17. A shortstop would be a big step in the right direction…
  18. Right. Because Bloom will be the only GM with limited time. Also I do doubt no GMs worked out anything with each other “in principle”…
  19. Proportionately, howeve, it’s closer. A straight total will always favor RHH. MLB has only about 35% LHH and 28% LHP. So that list of 15 hitters has one lefty and 4 switch hitters. If you look at each switch hitter as .72 RHH, then it becomes 3.88 LHH, which makes for roughly 25%. So yeah, still low. Need 2 more switch hitters to make it right…
  20. Hey it’s been a while since anyone argued about Baltimore being best at anything. Sure it was corruption, poverty, and violent crime, and not, say, baseball. But you take your wins where you can get them…
  21. While I see the obvious logic behind Rodon, there are even more obvious reasons that make Suzuki a better choice…
  22. I wouldn’t be surprised if one of Bogaerts or Martinez starts 2022 in another uniform…
  23. Largely due to the abundance of RHP. But yes, they do also start closer to 1b. Good point about shorter throws on pulled hits. But overall, it seems they do have an advantage and a disproportionate number of lefties rank among the game’s best all time hitters…
  24. Could be done but it’s safer to leave 3b exposed than 1b..,
  25. Well, that’s why “some” hitters don’t adapt. But we also keep worrying about the Matt Olson’s of the world and ignore how many Adam Frazier’s already do this. Should the game cater all its rules around left-handed sluggers? Are LHH now upset that their once advantageous genetic quirk has now been normalized?
