  1. He got some nasty stuff; I can see why he had a no hitter last year. Wouldn’t shock me to see him get another at some point in his career.
  2. Bleier did okay for his first 3 hitter; two ground ball singles and a bunt. The wheels came off after that.
  3. The first game of this series was 1-0 on a Rays homer in the 8th. I’d say effort by that surpasses this one.
  4. Odds on McGuire surviving the next close pitch from a Sox pitcher?
  5. They are lucky but they force their own luck. Put the ball in play, run the bases well. They are totally relaxed no matter who takes the mound or comes to the plate; if player A doesn’t get it done, they know the next guy will. No pressure.
  6. When a team is on a streak, your bloops and liners drop and the other teams liners go right at someone.
  7. Wasn’t trying to move the runner; he was bunting for a hit which would have happened had he put it down on the first pitch.
  8. He was bunting for a hit; the problem was he already showed it, which brought the 3B in. He puts that bunt down on the first pitch and it’s a hit.
  9. If Casas had cut that off, they might have had a shot. It was stupid baserunning by Franco that even made a play possible.
  10. The bad news is the last time Rays closer Fairbanks gave up a run was July 22 (26 appearances ago). Maybe he’s due?
  11. Physical errors are one thing, they happen. Mental mistakes are entirely different.
  12. Chang at least made solid contact. Kike ought to spend less time picking out shoes and more time practicing hitting and fielding.
  13. Perhaps you two should reread my final paragraph. What part of “I am in no way comparing these players” didn’t you understand? And it IS way too early to assess how Yoshida’s career will go.
  14. Player A went 5-36 in his first 10 games, with 1 homer and 3 RBIs. 659 homers later, Willie Mays finished up a Hall of Fame career. Seems to me Pedroia got off to a very tough start too. I am in no way comparing these players, but it is way too early to make any assessments about Yoshida. Not everyone hits the ground running like the immortal Ted Cox.
  15. Rule #1. - If the Rays ask about one of your pitchers, better have you people take a second look to see what it is they see. Rule #2. - If the Rays give up on a pitcher, pass. Tampa uses them up and spits them out; they never seem to be the same once they leave Tampa.
  16. McClanahan has made some mistakes too; his stuff is good enough to get away with them more often than Whitlock can. He’s a perennial Cy Young candidate; Whitlock is not and probably never will be. Garrett’s value is as a reliever. He’s a #4-5 starter.
  17. 30 straight scoreless innings by the Rays staff.
  18. The plus is McClanahan is over 60 pitches through 3. The negative is it’s no great thing seeing their own.
  19. Rays have tossed 3 straight shutouts and are now at 29 consecutive scoreless innings. I don’t care if you’re pitching against the 62 Mets or the 88 Orioles, that’s impressive.
  20. Two soft contact hits yields a run. When a team is going right … Does Kike get that?
  21. You don’t get too many shots at a guy like McClanahan; you can’t squander them.
  22. Remember when the Astros threw north of 50 straight fastballs at him a few years ago?
  23. Rays have allowed 18 runs all year. I don’t care who you are pitching against; that is impressive.
  24. 1) You are making the assumption that both would have developed the same way with the Sox. What about any recent Sox pitcher would indicate that would have happened? 2) Beeks was traded for Eovaldi in 2018; you really want to say he was given away?
