  1. Contact play was on, meaning the runner goes on anything on the ground. And before you bitch about why it was on, if it’s not, the inning plays out the same. They intentionally walk Devers and Duvall ends the inning with the grounder.
  2. Then he screwed up twice. Either way, he still not a smart player.
  3. Tends to happen when a team is struggling to score runs. And while there’s no guarantee it would have played out the same, Devers inning ending grounder would probably have been a double play.
  4. Then I sit corrected and would have no issue with Verdugo being benched again. Of course, you can’t teach baseball IQ and Verdugo seems to be severely lacking in it. He’s not the only one in the team unfortunately in that regard.
  5. Normally the on-deck hitter signals the runner to stay up or slide. Raffy was nowhere to be seen. When in doubt, slide, but Raffy needs to do his job as well.
  6. Likely going to be at least 10 years for that to happen. His kids are 13, 10 and 8 (might be a year off here) and he has said he wants to be around while they grow up. He’s financially secure, so there’s no reason he can’t be. He doesn’t need to spend 6 months away from home.
  7. Offense wasn't a problem that month; looking at BR, it was pretty much in line with their overall season. Sure, there were games here and there where they didn't score much, but there were no weeklong+ stretches. The pitching basically imploded that month which is what caused the collapse.
  8. It should be noted that that Red Sox lineup included not one but 4 players who would be elected to the Hall of Fame as well as a couple others who merited some consideration. This Sox lineup has maybe one in the latter category.
  9. He's not that good, but I'll give him a small break tonight; it was his 3rd appearance in 4 games, which is probably something he has never done. A loss tonight is on Raffy's AB in the first and the defense.
  10. I’m becoming convinced that the only way to prevent Cora from using Hernandez at short will be to release him. Otherwise, we’re going to see him there at least every other game for the rest of the season.
  11. Seabold is now 27. He would hardly be the first pitcher to figure it out around that age.
  12. Took a no-hitter into the 6th in his last start 5 days ago against the Giants.
  13. You let any pitcher in the big leagues off the hook they way they did and he’s going to gain confidence. It’s exactly what’s happened.
  14. The problem is there are few players who have options, especially middle infielders. Kike is the only one, and he has enough years that he could veto the demotion. I suppose they could send down Duran, since Kike can spell Duvall and also sort of play infield. Reyes may be odd man out.
  15. They’re not going to DFA a pitcher for to add a position player. Reyes is the most likely casualty.
  16. Made sense; faster than Turner (faint praise I know) and keeps a good bat in the line-up.
  17. Worst thing about Turner’s DP in the 9th is he’s the ghost runner in the 10th. Ref to run for him?
  18. Yoshida’s gone pull happy again. Needs to think left field
  19. Not sure I like the choice of Pivetta here. Edit - got past Stanton
  20. In his last four starts, the Red Sox have scored 2 runs while Bello has been in the game. There was one start that they scored 8 runs after he left the game.
  21. Saved a DP though. They are plays you see a few times a year, but in back to back half innings?
  22. It’s at least the second time in the last couple weeks that Bello has given up a damaging hit off a base. There was one off 3rd recently that Devers was ready to field that went for a run scoring double.
  23. Bello has more weird s*** happen to him
  24. If I knew the answer to that . . .
  25. Followed by the Pavlovian response we've heard 1000 times over.
