  1. Betts missed 14 games at the end of May/early June in 2018; obviously he was on the DL for those 2 weeks. He also had 6 or 7 games off during the last couple weeks of the season after the Sox had pretty much clinched. Xander pretty much followed the same pattern, except his DL stint was in late April (he missed 15 games there). Leon caught in 87 games, Vazquez 75, Swihart 28 and the immortal Dan Butler in 2.
  2. In his last 2 starts prior to tonight, Crochet allowed 3 runs on 8 hits in 12 innings and struck out 19. That got him a record of 0-1 and a no decision.
  3. Who cares, it's professional pumpkin chucking.
  4. Larry Jones, formerly of the Braves, says right after they put your plaque up in Cooperstown.
  5. Are you talking about the incident with the first base coach? Or was it a new episode?
  6. This series scares me a bit. A team that has lost 12 in a row is due for some different luck.
  7. Still have the question why not Martin? Isn’t standard procedure in these games use your closer in the 9th, your next best available reliever in the 10th, etc?
  8. Yep, but should have been out of the inning allowing only 1 run at most (and probably none); New York screwed the pooch on the review.
  9. Well, the first hit wasn’t exactly roped. It wasn’t even a hit. But the last two hitters have nailed the ball. Edit - 3 hitters Edit - 4 hitters New York costs the Sox at least 2 runs with that bad review call.
  10. Booser’s done the job most of the time, but is Martin hurt? Not like he’s pitched a lot lately.
  11. I repeat my statement about just throwing anyone at first base.
  12. Seems to happen when he pitches out of the stretch.
  13. Valdez wasn’t going to get the hitter; it was a hit. Still like to see it fielded cleanly though.
  14. Valdez wasn’t going to get the hitter, but it helps a pitcher’s psyche to see it fielded cleanly.
  15. Bello seems to have a lot of trouble pitching out of the stretch. And that pick by Smith is why just putting anyone over there is a dumb idea.
  16. He was sold to the Mets about a week ago.
  17. Easy to be confused about with multiple awards in the same ceremony.
  18. Yep, but it could have been a cumulative thing as well. Between 1999 and 2004, he made at least 65 appearances every year and was over 70 four times. Obviously with the post season, he was over 80 in 2004. That’s a lot of games and innings.
  19. That he would, but Rohr was given a “Great Red Sox Moment” award; he wasn’t inducted into their HOF.
  20. I don’t think so. He barely meets the minimum criteria of playing for the Sox for 3 years (he played 3 seasons in Boston). He was awesome in 2004 but 2005 and 2006 were decidedly mediocre (to be charitable). I think HoF players need to be good for several years, not just one.
  21. Consider the source and move on. Just mvp doing mvp things.
  22. Probably should have put retiring in quotes
  23. I remember some player comparing trying to hit Rivera’s cutter to watching a horror movie. You know what’s coming, but it still gets you.
  24. Nasty and has gotten a couple of strike calls from the ump. He doesn’t need the help.
