  1. I’ll disagree after the first homer. He had allowed the lead off single on 4 pitches and then struck out the next batter on 3 pitches. The 10 pitch AB that ended with the Buxton homer took a ton out of him. Still, if Contreras doesn’t let it clank off his glove, I think Mayer makes the catch and the game may have been different. I will say that Slaten should have been lifted after the 4 pitch walk to Bell which followed the Buxton homer.
  2. So who would you have used? Seriously, who? And “anyone else” is not an answer.
  3. Not that it really matters, but Whitlock got the win. Usually in those situations, the scorer will give it to the first reliever in when the starter is lifted early.
  4. Gibson had no excuses for losing 9 times. He went to the plate; he could have done something about lack of run support. (tongue firmly in cheek in this reply).
  5. They only moved it up 30 minutes. Its 6:10 CDT; that’s 7:10 Eastern
  6. Salary relief? Nobody’s going to take him with the way his contract is structured. He’s makes $6M this year, $8.5M in 2027, $16M in 2028 and $19M in 2029. There’s also a $21M club option in 2030 with a $1M buyout. The Sox would have to pay 90% of that money for someone to take him. There’s no salary relief.
  7. The thing with the pitch com took the cake today. Bello must have the attention span of a gnat. If it didn’t involve possibly hurting another pitcher due to lack of warmups, a trip to the mound with a very unceremonious exit would have been in order.
  8. Gray will likely be traded; decent pitcher and with St. Louis paying a big chunk of the contract, very attractive. Chapman will be moved. Contending teams will pay for another stud reliever. It also wouldn’t shock me to see Whitlock traded as well. Of course, our intrepid PBO will screw this up and get some never weres in these deals,
  9. If he’s out that long, they’ll move Mayer over. If it’s a week they won’t.
  10. The thing is, there is no indication that Story has ever been a JD Drew and balk at playing with the slightest discomfort. This an example of that and it certainly hurt the team. I recall in 2024 when he got hurt in the first 10 games and was supposed to be out the whole season but busted his butt rehabbing and was able to join the team in September in an unsuccessful playoff drive. What's the old saying, you can play hurt but you can't play injured; a player needs to know the difference.
  11. Also a whole lot of birds.
  12. Only thing I can think of is he thought Elder might grab it. But I tend to agree, another brain fart by Duran.
  13. Problem is they also near the top in ORS (Offensive Runs Saved). What they are saving them for I have no idea.
  14. Like I said, could a lineup with 6 pitchers in it do much worse than one with the current regulars? At the very least, it would increase interest due to an increased possibility of a no-hitter.
  15. You are assuming Tracy has full control over the lineup. I don’t think he does, and if he defies orders from above, they aren’t going to send him back to Worcester to manage the WooSox, they are going to show him the street. Duran in any slot in the lineup is problematic, but the place you font want him is shortly after Abreu and Rafaela, who are the only guys who actually seem to get on base with some regularity. Leadoff really only means something in the first inning. After that, anyone can lead off an inning.
  16. I don’t expect him to actually answer. I personally would leave Mayer at 2nd for now. He’s having a tough enough time at the plate so far without adding a position change on top of it. There may be times when he moves over in a game given pinch hitters or whatever, but a permanent change right now, no. Monasatario and IKF can handle short defensively and let’s be realistic, are they really going to be much of a downgrade on offense?
  17. Don’t leave us hanging, what do these scenarios say?
  18. I don’t think it’s totally phantom; watching him run the bases over the past week or 2 (on those rare occasions he’s been on), he didn’t seem to be moving well. He’s a pretty fast guy and he seemed to be taking it easy. He needs a mental reset but he definitely has something physical going on as well.
  19. Here’s my lineup tomorrow: 1B Slaten 2B Weissert SS Kelly 3B Watson LF Samaniego CF Rafaela RF Abreu C Gasper P Tolle No DH. This lineup can’t do much worse than the regulars have been doing offensively. Abreu, Rafaela and Gasper play because they at least hit the ball most of the time.
