Meaningless. Willie Mays first 26 MLB At-Bats, 1 for 26, 1 HR, 1 RBI Mike Schmidt hit .206 in a cup of coffee with the Phils in 1972 and followed that up with a .196 his first full year. Pedroia didn’t light the world on fire his first couple months On the flip side, Ted Cox went 6 for his first 8, 7 for his first 12 and finished his September call up hitting .368 in 1977. He lasted 4 full seasons and 272 games in the majors. The first month or two or even year is hardly predictive.

Two things can be true at the same time. Nomar wanted more money; the Sox didn’t want to pay him premium $ for what they (correctly) viewed as waning performance. The impasse led Nomar to pout through the first 4 months of the 2004 season, culminating with the series in NY when Jeter went into the stands to make a catch while Nomar sat out with some mysterious injury. The rest was history.

No trade can be evaluated two hours after it happens. The major piece coming from the Giants is in High A ball. It’ll be 2-4 years before the final grade is in.

The kid who loved to play and was always smiling hasn’t been seen since Bogaerts left. You seldom saw him happy any more. As someone else pointed out, he sat by himself in the dugout; you never (or almost never) saw him interacting with other players. Who knows, there may have been issues in the clubhouse that we’ll never know about (nor should we). Not saying there were, not saying there wasn’t. Thems that know don’t talk and thems that talk don’t know.

Maybe not. Fans never realize Cora et al have information on the availability of players that they don’t. More than likely Chapman told Cora he wasn’t available. We don’t have to like it, but I’m pretty sure if Chapman was available, he’d have been used.

I’ve got 9 on my list, but only 3 are active; the rest are long ago banned types. The 3 are people who just clutter up threads (mostly game threads) with repetitive posting and nothing interesting added. There are a few posters who I don’t particularly get along with but who post stuff that’s worth reading.

Too bad he won’t see this since he has you on ignore (a list I hope I’m on as well). Of course, publicly criticizing the mods is certainly the way to remain in good graces with them. I do hope they don’t ban TYPM; his lectures are unintentionally funny.

Given the struggles he went through over the course of his life, perhaps he finally is at peace. i believe it was Bob Dylan who said something along the lines of “That ear, he’s got to will that to the Smithsonian”.

I agree with both your points, but right now, they seem wedded to sticking to the game plan and no variance allowed. Bello is almost always fastball, fastball then 3 off speed pitches. That actually seems to be a pattern with all pitchers not named Crochet. Varitek the catcher would see what a guy had and adapt the game plan on the fly. That doesn’t seem to be happening now, which is why I think perhaps Bailey won’t allow adjustment as the game goes on.

What does the 9th have to do with a blown save? Blown saves can occur in any inning where a relief pitcher who is not eligible for the win, allows the opposing team to tie a game or take the lead. I don’t believe any of Whitlocks were in the 9th for example. It also can be very misleading. One run game and a pitcher comes in with the bases loaded. Catcher allows a passed ball and the tie run scores. Blown save for the pitcher. Not saying that’s been the case for the Sox though.

Toro has been fine defensively and is contributing on offense. He’s not going to make an all-star team, but he’s been solid. Both Gonzalez and Sogard have shown their middle infielder backgrounds by trying to make plays they shouldn’t; Romy had one last night. First base isn’t difficult, but there are nuances that have to be learned and just throwing someone over there may not yield the results you want.

Buehler isn’t a rookie; he came up in 2017 and spent 7 years with the Dodgers, a team that knows a thing or two about pitching. He can change the game plan on his own.
