  1. Depends on what you're willing to give up. From what I've heard, the Pirates want at least 1 if not 2 of the big 3. I'd feel better about such a deal if Dombrowski were the GM/PBO. He had a knack for identifying the keepers from the pretenders (keeping Devers and trading Moncada in the Sale deal, for example). Neither Bloom nor Breslow seems to be able to do that.
  2. The one thing that might, I repeat, might, work in Story sticking with the club is that he is a veteran presence in what is a very young clubhouse, particularly the young infielders. Especially with Bregman out. Devers is a vet, but he has shown no interest in filling anything resembling a mentoring role (as Bogaerts did for him 8-9 years ago) and if anything, is a negative influence. Duran and Refsnyder have been around long enough to help with the OFs. That doesn't mean Trevor should be playing every day. However, Refsnyder doesn't play a lot but certainly called out the team's play a little the other day. It doesn't have to be a regular but here is some value in having vets around.
  3. Ahead of time, I have no issue with Cora pulling Giolito here, given that Olson has hit about .750 against him.
  4. It all plays off the fastball; because he can’t catch up to a fastball, he has to cheat and start his swing early which means when the slider comes, he can’t hold up.
  5. The real question is how committed is the team to winning, and by team, I mean Henry and Kennedy as well as Breslow and Cora. I mean look back at 2003; Grady Little won 188 games in 2 seasons but royally screwed up Game 7 of the ALCS and was (rightly) fired for it. That was accountability from the top. The last several seasons would not have been permitted during the 15 or so years from 2003-18. Something changed at the top in 2019 and definitely by 2020. So long as the stands were full, the top guys didn’t care. And in watching the past few years, the stands have remained full, except now they are filled with visiting fans whose money spends the same as Red Sox rooters. All of which says it may be time for a managerial change, but I’m not sure it’ll do much good.
  6. I don’t lump Story in with the other 2. He’s a once decent player whose body has betrayed him and as I’ve said in other posts, he busted his ass getting back on the field last September to help the Sox in their attempt to reach the postseason. That alone says he doesn’t have a loser mentality. He’s gotten old quickly. His injuries have been almost freaky. He certainly is no Panda. The big question will be will Henry be willing to eat the contract so the Sox can release him. Cora and Breslow are in a power struggle and it’s hurting the team big time.
  7. Story has no options left and even if he did, he’s well north of 5 years service time, so he can’t be sent down without his permission. Hamilton is not the problem with this team; if your main problem is your backup middle infielder/pinch runner who has come to the plate 76 times all year, you’re in good shape. Story has to be on a very short leash at this point. Any move with Hamilton is just rearranging the deck chairs.
  8. Nah, we’ve seen this one before at least a couple times.
  9. Can hardly wait for tomorrow; Bello in a day game vs. the Brewer’s ace. What can possibly go wrong?
  10. Panda has to be the worst in the last 20 years. He never gave a damn. Story hasn’t been a good one, but he does have the injury excuse, and him busting his ass to get back on the field last September to try and help the team get to the postseason counts for something in my book. Injuries and age caught up to him early, but it’s not like he let himself get out of shape to cause the injuries (and for the record, the Sox do need to move on from him at this point).
  11. Whitlock about to put this one away for the Brewers. Cora looking disgusted in the dugout. I mean he seldom shows emotion, but he looked pretty beside himself as he watched Whitlock fart around.
  12. Campbell got around fine on fastballs the first few weeks. Then pitchers figured out how to set him up and he has to adjust. Mayer will go through the same process.
  13. As much as they’ve been scoring for him this year, it’s probably the ball game.
  14. Two comments before I close interaction with you: 1) I’m glad to know that you don’t care about my career; I’d be worried if you did. 2) The idea that one must have been a college athlete to understand the concept of redshirting is so unbelievable as to defy description. What that part had to do with what I posted isn’t clear, but I’m sure it was somehow connected in your mind. The obvious last question of you I should ask is if you are so knowledgeable and great in your baseball observations, why are you posting here instead of running or working for a major league club? I don’t think I’ll ask it. The answer is self-evident. TTFE.
  15. Once again, you have absolutely no idea what level anyone posting here played to. In turn, none of us actually knows what level you played to. We know you claim to have played at a reasonably high level, but we have nothing more than your words to go by. I could say I played high school, American Legion and was a second round draft choice. Do you know any of it to be true or false?
  16. Oh for crying out loud, 99.9% of right handed infielders in the majors played ss in high school. Most get moved upon signing a minor league contract or a college scholarship. With your background, you surely know that.
  17. Bello splits: Night 51 G, 3.86 ERA, 1.316 WHIP Day 26 G, 5.54 ERA, 1.699 WHIP Giolito actually has better numbers in day games than night games careerwise (ERA is about a run apart vs almost 2 and the WHIP is very a lot closer as well). Not saying would hold up, but at least play the odds.
  18. Teams are limited to 13 pitchers you can have less, but as you said, they don’t. The current September rules require a 28 man roster with a limit of 14 pitchers, so if they would expand to that number full time, I’d imagine that limit would remain.
  19. Why in the effing world would you start Bello in a day game if you don’t have to?
  20. Story’s fate has no affect on Anthony unless the latter makes a sudden move to the infield. Anthony will be promoted if there is an outfield injury or a current OF is involved in a trade.
  21. I have to assume you are ignoring the fact Wilson also threw 24 Monday night and Weissert threw 17 in that game. If you plan on having a shot at an effective bullpen in July (let alone September), you can’t trot guys out every night. No manager does the same things in May that he does in September. They scored 1 run and struck out 16 times. Thats the story, not how the pitching staff was handled.
  22. Pretty sure I’ve read they gave him a 1B mitt In spring training 2024; since we’ve never seen him in a game at that position since, I’m surmising it did not go well.
