  1. Of course they do, just ask them:D
  2. I know that was said with tongue firmly in cheek, but the sad thing is there are people here who would support that. To them, remember, 1) He's on a rehab assignment which started May 14. That can last 20 days, so he has to be activated NLT June 3 2) Even though he's still got options, as a 5 year vet, he can't be sent down without his consent.
  3. Well, MVP referenced a picture of one with Willie McCove in 1969; it didn't involve having somebody playing short righ field though. https://www.talksox.com/forum/threads/18654-5-20-Orioles-at-Fenway?p=1143113&viewfull=1#post1143113 You should know one should never talk in absolutes; your profession has field days making people who do look, well, silly.
  4. Vazquez hit .290 last season in 100 games. While that may be the highwater mark for him careerwise, he is certainly capable of putting up numbers in the .240 to .250 range consistently. Leon would probably be about 10 points lower than that.
  5. OTOH, nobody could hit in the year of the pitcher anyway, so it may not have mattered if there were none.
  6. Yeah, but the O's had halfway decent teams a few of those years. This year isn't one of them.
  7. Did I read the bos score correctly? A 13 hit shutout with no double plays?
  8. Which really isn't all that different percentage wise. 7-4 extrapolates to 21-12.
  9. It was a line drive near the left fielder; Nunez held up to make sure it wasn't caught, Vaz probably had to hesitate as well.
  10. Cobb is having a bad season, but he does have a decent track record over his career; he's better than he has showed this year.. He has usually pitched pretty well at Fenway.
  11. Dewey. He caught everything (as does Betts) and while Mookie has a good arm, Evans had a cannon. Teams simply stopped trying to take an exra base on him.
  12. You know, he seemed to be coming around a little until that fingernail issue a couple starts back. Has sucked since.
  13. I really wonder if he likes playing baseball; not all players do. It may be something he has done because he's been good at it (relatively speaking to the rest of us mortals)
  14. I see Natick and d-money are posting; Sox must be trailing.
  15. Well, that should guarantee a 1-0 game with the only run scoring on a wind blown fly ball off the Pesky Pole.
  16. While Cherington only lead 4 drafts, he began working for the Red Sox in 1999. Under Epstein he was director of player development and then VP, player personnel. Baseball front offices are not one-man shows. It is silly to think he did not have considerable input into the players the Sox did draft over those years.
  17. Straight ahead speed means little in this context. Infielders have to move laterally and have a quick first step. Brooks Robinson was one of the slowest runners ever, but he had great lateral quickness for 2-3 steps. Mike Lowell, though not as good as Brooksie, would be a more recent example. Swihart probably didn't have professional level lateral speed as a high school SS. Remember, most of these guys were shortstops, pitchers and centerfielders in high school; that's where the best amateur players play. Only a few stay there.
  18. JBJ didn't play last Friday in Toronto; Sale went 9, struck out 15 and walked no one. Was he nibbling that night as well? I think he just didn't have his good stuff last night; no pitcher has it every game.
  19. I was going to ask, is Nomar an introvert ? He always struck me as one. Extroverts often see introverts as unfriendly.
  20. Vazquez was supposed to be the main guy with Hanigan as the #2 for 2015. Swihart was scheduled to be in Pawtucket. Vazquez blew out his elbow in Spring Training (requiring TJS) and was gone for the year, making Hanigan the starter. The Sox wanted Swihart to develop at Pawtucket, so they got Leon from the Nats to be the back-up. In early May, Hanigan broke his hand. Swihart was then called up and did most of the catching until July. At that point, Hanigan came back and Blake went on the DL with an ankle injury. When Swihart returned a couple weeks later, Leon was DFA'd, ending up in Pawtucket. Hanigan and Swihart then split the duties the rest of the season (Leon was brought back as a September call-up).
  21. Never worry about 1 runner. A WHIP of 1.000 is darn good, and the DP took care of that.
  22. Lester and Papelbon stand out, and that's over 10 years ago. After that, the highlights over past couple decades are Buchholz and Jeff Suppan.
