  1. Those who are clamoring for Velazquez to take Pomeranz's spot need to note that Hector has been scuffling quite a bit lately.
  2. Oops, yeah you are correct.
  3. Actually, no. The tying run is still in the dugout. Under these circumstances, it has to be on deck for this to be a save siyuation.
  4. Oh, somewhere in this favored land the sun is shining bright; the band is playing somewhere, and somewhere hearts are light, and somewhere men are laughing, and somewhere children shout; but there is no joy in Natick — Sandy Leon hit it out .
  5. Interesting, but how would he know? Francona’s last season was 2011 and the Sox didn’t sign Pablo and Ganley until after the 2014 season (by which time Franconia was managing the Guardians).
  6. Cliff, PM one or all of the mods if you have concerns. Calling out the mods publicly is never a good thing.
  7. THAT is why you can't just throw people in at first base and expect them to do all the little things.
  8. Hamley is guaranteed $22M for the year; per the CBA, he cannot get 1 penny more. The Red Sox owe him roughly $15M for the rest of this season. If I'm another team, why would I pay him $1.5M (meaning the Sox would pay $13.5M) rather than the prorated minimum (~$367K right now) and let the Sox pay $14.6M. I get his services either way.
  9. Oh I think Natick has that one wrapped up. You would post about Moreland a couple times a day, and that pace has slowed to glacial speed. Natick babbles about the catchers 2-3 times every page.
  10. Well, while they're at it, they should rule change the slider and/or the split finger fastball. The game changed with the advent of those pitches Or how about any pitch over 95 is now illegal. Ridiculous? Of course it is. It's up to the hitters to adjust. If they fail to do so, it's on them.
  11. At this point you are just trolling.
  12. As somebody penned somewhere in another thread, Ben was a great Director of Player Personnel; he was a less than stellar GM.
  13. This is not that difficult: 1) His current contract contains the vesting option that kicks in if he gets those 1050 Plate Appearances over the 2017 and 2018 season. As of today, he has 748. 2) If another team claims him off waivers or makes a trade for him, they assume the terms of his current contract. This makes it extremely unlikely that any club will take him in this manner. 3) Once released (in a week), he is free to sign a new contract with any team. Any plate appearances from here forward will be under that new contract, not his current Red Sox one. He got 748 PAs under his current contract; that is not 1050 and the option does not vest.
  14. That's the way I understand it. But either way, it's still a new contract, so any PAs he has from here forward are under the new contract. For the option to have kicked in, he needed 1050 PAs during the 2017-18 seasons. He got 748. It doesn't vest.
  15. If somebody trades for him, then they pick up all the terms of the contract (I would imaging any trade would include a large cash payment from Boston to the new team to pay the salary). Why would a team even part with a Grade B prospect and be on the hook for the option if they can just sign him in a week as a free agent for 2/3 of the major league minimum.
  16. He'll be released from his contract in a week. Signing with another team is a new contract. He can't go play for another team unless he is under contract to them somehow. That agreement with the new team would almost certainly be for the major league minimum, and that would be prorated for the 2/3 of the season remaining.
  17. Well, don't feel TOO sorry for him; by the end of the year, he'll have been paid nearly $160 mil for his career.
  18. No. If he is picked up off of waivers or via trade, the new team picks up all the terms of the contract, including the vesting clauses (which is why he won't be). If he signs with a new team, it is a new contract. The Red Sox must honor the terms of his Red Sox contract (i.e., they have to pay him the balance of this year's salary). But those terms require 497 PAs for the option to vest, which he didn't and won't get under his Red Sox contract. Any PAs from here forward would be under his new contract; they are not additive.
  19. The option only is in play if Hanley is traded/claimed off waivers (which is about as likely as 59 year old me signing with a team). If he does get picked up after that, it becomes a new contract and the option is void. The new team would pay the prorated portion of the minimum (~$367K) with the Sox on the hook for the balance of this year's contract (roughly $12.5M). For $367K, somebody will take a shot.
  20. I would think this means that Swihart will see some action at first, at least against tough lefties. Moreland is best if he doesn't play every day (maybe he plays 4-5x a week with Swihart 2x).
  21. One problem; if a player is sent down, he has to stay there 10 days (unless a player with the big league club is placed on the DL).
  22. It's mostly 2 people, and IMO all they are showing is we have a couple of the dumbest posters in existence.
  23. Here's another article on the robo-ump subject: https://www.baseballprospectus.com/news/article/37347/robo-strike-zone-not-simple-think/
  24. ' Do we really? This article seems to indicate it's not as good as one might think. It has some extensive and interesting insights from the Director of Technology for Baseball Prospectus on the subject. http://www.sportingnews.com/mlb/news/robot-umpires-electronic-strike-zone-in-mlb-pitchfx-balls-and-strikes/ggv80p4qmsu31d72sohrmbcnj Note - it also quotes Joe West, but he can be ignored.
  25. Bradley gets more borderline pitches called for strikes than anyone I've seen.
