  1. Doesn't matter, it's his last batter no matter what happens.
  2. Usually happens like that in these types of games but it was also Game 1 of a doubleheader.
  3. The Sox started and finished the trip 9 1/2 games up. The bad news is they went 7-2 and only widened the gap by 1/2 game The good news is the Yankees played .700 ball over that same stretch (7-3) and lost 1/2 game in the standings.
  4. Holt is exposed when he plays too much; his second half swoons are well documented. He’s best when used 3-4 times a week, not every day.
  5. Nunez is a decent 3rd baseman; not a gold glover but he makes the plays. His knee injury has really hurt him at 2nd, not so much at 3rd with less ground to cover.
  6. I’ll take a 7-2 road trip every time.
  7. Urena was tossed; I agree with Sutcliffe, should have let him stay and have to come to the plate 1 time.
  8. And vice versa. 3 games (one of which went 13 innings) and each team has scored 5 runs total.
  9. Planned day off; the team’s record is 86-35, so I’m giving Cora the benefit of the doubt.
  10. Yep. and only 10-15 percent of Little Leaguers will ever play high school ball (I’m talking your basic regular season team, not the all-star team). So multiply that 1 in 7000 accordingly and you get somewhere between 1 in 40,000 and 1 in 70,000 Little League players will play in the majors.
  11. I do like Kaat in the booth, but tonight it’s Smoltz, who is also very good.
  12. I said anyone worth anything. Not sure why the Red Sox would want him though, he’s a starter and has only made 2 relief appearances in his 13 big league seasons. Plus he’s not that good.
  13. Just for comparison, Benintendi’s OBP this year is .383, Betts’ is .438. Ted Williams was .482 for his career, which is the all time record. So yes, 4 hits in 10 ABs plus a couple walks would be fantastic. Actually, it would be fantasy.
  14. There will almost certainly be no waiver wire deal. Cleveland would make a claim on anybody worth anything, blocking anyone further up the food chain. And if they didn’t, the Astros or Yankees would.
  15. So Pomeranz and ERod lead the way?
  16. The hit was on a good pitch. Barely made it out of the infield. The walk was bad, the hit was just a good job by the hitter.
  17. Velazquez? Really? The guy has consistently allowed guys on base all year and been a Houdini getting out of those situations cheap. He is a long/early game guy, nothing more. With that evaluation, The Sox may as well just quit now, because there isn't going to be any bullpen help. The Guardians aren't going to allow it, let alone the Astros or Yankees.
  18. How many 4 game sets? Out of how many 4 game series.
  19. So if the O's played "normal" against Boston, they would have 4-5 wins in the season series to date. Sweeping any team is tough, and even tougher in a 4 game set.
  20. I said it last night, but there are some here who expect perfection to start with and then improvement from there.
  21. They're 13-2 against the O's. How greedy do you really want to be (that's a rhetorical question)?
  22. Thought they said last night Sale was on a 60-70 pitch count today, which would be right where he's at.
  23. Got 2 at the Phillies first (Tueday and Wednesday). It was a tough pair with them at Fenway a couple weeks ago and its going to be a tough pair in Phiily.
  24. Actually, they want perfection to start with, and then improvement from there.
  25. Better he be in it now than later, but it is a concern.
