  1. Nothing wrong with bringing Barnes in there. Sox had a golden opportunity in the top of the 6th to put a crooked number up on the board and the top of the line-up totally pissed it away.
  2. That would work but the rotation was fairly decent through the first 90-95 games or so and Vaz caught an awful lot of those.
  3. I cringed when OB said Barnes had not allowed an earned run in his last 8 appearances.
  4. I was going off what the Sox announcers said; either way, it ended up the way it should have.
  5. The announcers screwed up the term, but what New York ruled was obstruction. From my umpiring days, the penalty in that case is the batter is safe, the ball is dead and all runners advance to the base they would have safely gotten to if there had been no obstruction. In the end, the situation ended up correct since 3rd was as far as Dalbec would have gotten.
  6. I think the plate ump called a swing. He kind of pointed at him, like they do when they call a swing.
  7. Killer was Kike striking out; he has to get Dalbec 3rd somehow. Jays will now push across a run somehow.
  8. I don’t think Gurriel ever did either. Verdugo got back to it first.
  9. He’s arguing a replay, Montoya should be tossed.
  10. The way things are going, they will call Verdugo out. If they do, Cora needs to go nuts on the ump.
  11. At least he made up for it with a single. Edit - reply was as you were editing
  12. Might be time for some small ball; can Arauz bunt?
  13. Everybody can’t be tipping pitches. Have to wonder about some camera in the hotel in CF; there have been suspicions for years.
  14. There have been a 2 or 3 decently pitched games that have kept it “down”. ERod’s 5 shutout innings the other day for example. I think Houck had a good one in Tampa(?).
  15. Lester’s ERA went from 2.93 to 3.47 his last 4 starts; he allowed 18 runs in 19 2/3 innings. Beckett missed a turn in early September and his ERA went from 2.49 to 2.89 by allowing 15 runs in 18 1/3 innings in his last 3 games (and from 2.50 to 2.89 over the last 2 starts). They had good seasons but sucked when it counted most.
  16. They are not going to use him when they are behind, especially way behind. Plus Houck is not going to go more than 4 or 5; he’ll be needed then.
  17. Similar; the pitching absolutely imploded in September that year.
  18. You have to remember the real purpose of the minor leagues is not to win but to develop players for the major league team; winning is a by-product. To that end, minor league managers are often told who they will play and how much. So perhaps the organization wants that kid pitcher to develop another pitch. That may be the reason he was sent out there long enough to allow 7 runs. One of my favorite things to do when I go to my local minor league team’s games (it’s a low A league, currently they are a Royals affiliate but were an Astros one for many years) is to try and pick out the 1 or 2 players on each team that might make the majors. That’s really all there are on each team at that level. Obviously the numbers go up as you climb higher.
  19. I was at the game in Atlanta when Cora pulled him at 4 2/3 with the lead. I’d do it again tonight. You want a W? Learn to throw less balls.
  20. Duran needs to think opposite field all the time.
  21. He’s been better at home, but he’s been good both at home and on the road (2.50 ERA at home, 3.25 on the road, opponents Batting Average .232 at home and .227 on the road). He stays healthy he’s going to be a really good pitcher for a long time.
  22. Rafi looks like he’s gone pull happy again.
  23. Also a bigger difference from his fastball, 12-13 mph vs. 6-7.
