  1. Doubt the umps would permit it but if it happened, my guess is the pitcher would have to finish his minimum and the manager would be ejected.
  2. Sawamura let’s that drop it’s an easy DP with a chance at a TP. That said, he made the right play by catching it.
  3. Jesus Christ, he’s giving you a bleeping out. Take it. They never bunted in Japan?
  4. Quantrill had a lot to do with that. He was really good.
  5. Like I said, that second strike was the one he needed to drive. Quantrill almost teed it up for him.
  6. Probably learned to do it in Milwaukee
  7. Second strike is what killed him; that was his pitch to hit hard somewhere.
  8. Quantrill has been very impressive today.
  9. Agreed, plus it’s a day game after a night game. One explanation I can think of is maybe Plawecki’s still hurting a little after getting hit in the hand the other night and while he might be able to catch in a pinch, he really may need an extra day or two.
  10. He’s done the job most of the time, but he doesn’t seem to have many clean innings.
  11. Learn the rules; a pitcher has to face 3 hitters unless he ends the inning.
  12. Got to get to the 9th first. Since Richards was warming, it probably will be Ottavino. Taylor will come in if Richards creates a mess.
  13. Two things can be true at the same time. Allen was very good and the Sox hitters helped that along with a piss poor approach at the plate.
  14. I had no issue with sending ERod back out. The pen has sucked and he’s pitched pretty well. I would not send him out for the 8th though.
  15. Note to Sox hitters. See how he went with the pitch?
  16. The Sox seem to have a lot of trouble with soft tossing lefties, don’t they.
  17. And Arauz had to earn that walk with what, 7 or 8 foul balls?
  18. Has nothing to do with control; it has everything to do with mindset. Sale goes 0-2 on a hitter and he goes after the hitter on the next pitch. ERod, on those rare occasions when he does go 0-2, will nibble and often as not, end up 2-2 or 3-2. Read that the immaculate inning is more rare than a no-hitter. There have been something like 315 no-hit games in major league history vs. 204 immaculate innings.
  19. Prediction - ERod will never have an immaculate inning.
  20. Don’t see a corresponding move; maybe they only had 39?
  21. Some elk and wolves in Yellowstone disagree.
  22. If you don’t like the show, there’s this button on your remote where you can change the channel. Just sayin
  23. Exactly. Too many people seem to think the #5 guy is going to win 75% of his starts and pitch to a sub 3 ERA. A team will do well if their #5 goes around .500 with an ERA in the mid to upper 4s. As I’ve said, any pitcher in the majors CAN shut down any other team. It’s how often they can do it. A #5 isn’t going to do it very often, but they will do it once in a while. Privetta is what he is, a 4-5 starter.
  24. Won't be Whitlock, at least on any regular basis. He's doing very well in the role he has right now and since he figures to be a part of the rotation next year, best to keep his confidence high. They'll keep him on that twice a week schedule and if he's in line for a multi-inning save, they'll let him finish. I don't think they will risk his arm doing every day type duty. My guess is Robles and Taylor will get looks. Robles has done the job before, as his 10 saves with the Twins this season attest. Taylor may get a look depending on matchups. Ottavino may also factor in; again, he's done the job at times this year and he seems to have at least righted his ship a little.
  25. Bull. Tonight was his 9the appearance in August, totaling 5 1/3 innings. He had 8 appearances in July for 8 innings (plus 1 inning in the ASG). His days of rest this month have been 6, 2 (before the doubleheader with Toronto where he pitched in both games), 0, 1, 4, 4, 2 and 0. He was pitching fine until that doubleheader. It's in his head; he's lost confidence, which is disaster for a reliever, especially a closer.
