    Barnes added to the roster as an injury replacement for Richards. Might explain why Richards only pitched yo the one batter last night. By rule, Richards cannot return to the roster prior to the World Series, so he may well have made his final appearance for the Sox.

    Those rules don't apply in the postseason. It's traditional extra inning baseball.

    Miller spent 2 or 3 years in Boston as Ken Coleman's radio sidekick; it was the late 70s or early 80's. IIRC, he moved on to Baltimore as their main guy.

    It was a hell of a play by Arozarena, partially enabled by the shift. They opined on the Fox postgame show that during the regular season with the normal Tampa crowd, he likely would have been out. With the stands fuller and much louder, no one could hear Devers shout.

    Ortiz just said he would tell him to cut his swing down and use the whole field. Less is more in the postseason is the term he used. Frank Thomas agreed with him.

    Not necessarily; Sox have gone back from 0-2 in the Division Series at least twice. But it definitely is not a route you want to take.

    He is capable of more. That .275 average could be 40-50 points higher with a little more plate discipline. It’s in him to do it.

    All true (I’ll take your word on the movie). But the Ted Williams philosophy to look for a good pitch and hit it is not one that Devers embraces. He should. His ceiling would be limitless if he could/does.

    Devers is hurt. I thought I saw something on one his swings in his last AB and this one he looked very odd after each swing. That would be a killer blow.

    Could see that steal coming a mile away and thanks to the shift, not a damn thing anyone could do about it.

    It’s probably something he’s done his entire career without incident spanning 860+ games and 7200+ innings played in the OF.

    My guess is because he can get warm quickly and he doesn’t burn one of the “good” arms. Pivetta then had time to warm up properly and has looked pretty good overall.

    I’m not disagreeing. The OP pointed it out as a bad (or maybe poor) decision by Cora. My point was no one on the Sox roster really fits the bill snd thst Cora can only deal with the guys he has on the roster.

    Oh, I know. But the prototype lead off guy normally would have decent speed.

    Vaz started because overall, ERod has pitched better with him behind the plate (didn’t go that way tonight but over the season it is true). Richards would be available tomorrow. Pivetta has pitched pretty well and if nothing else, is saving the pen, which is a good thing. He could even be putting himself in line for a potential Game 5 start should the series get that far.

    He did poorly at it the first half of the year. Cora stuck with him and he did very well at it in July and August up until he got Covid. He seems to have relapsed to his first half self. Problem is the Sox really don’t have anyone who fits the prototype lead off hitter profile. Schwarber might be the closest, but he is slow and wasn’t with the club until August. That’s the problem with playing that game; Cora has to manage the roster he has. Everything is trade-offs.

    Pivetta is fine as a number 5 starter. Hes not good enough to be a #3 like he was asked to be most of this year.

    All I know is if they let one go, you DON’T want to sign him. They never seem to be as good once they leave Tampa.

    You can’t explain anything to this guy. Mr. Twitter just bitches and moans. I don’t think he even actually watches the games from the way he wants to yank pitchers because they give up two seeing eye hits and a perfect bunt.
