  1. It's not Friday yet, but it is Chris Sale Day.
  2. Clay underwent likely season-ending surgery on his right arm Tuesday: http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/phillies/Phillies-pitcher-Clay-Buchholz-undergoes-surgery-season-likely-done.html
  3. The number of new threads started is not really a good indicator of forum health...I'd rather have a few active threads with many pages of good discussion than a new thread for every stray thought that enters someone's brain. If you have a topic to discuss that doesn't fit in one of the existing threads, by all means, start one.
  4. Worth noting that Travis Shaw has 4 homers and an .890 OPS for the Brewers in the early going. (Of course, we've all seen him start off hot and fail to sustain it over the course of the season.)
  5. Yeah, I feel like we're finally seeing the Kimbrel we hoped we'd be getting...pure dominance. Imagining how good this 'pen could be once we have Thornburg and eventually Smith back healthy is kind of scary.
  6. Glad it's the time of year when a couple of good games can turn your stat line around in a hurry....Beni, Mookie, Xander, Hanley, and of course Mitch "David Who?" Moreland all batting over .300 at the moment.
  7. I've been as critical of some of Dombrowski's moves as the next guy, but I have a hard time with this "cliff" concept. There are simply too many unknowns when you're trying to forecast the direction of a franchise 4-5+ years out into the future. We'll probably look very different than we do today, but I have a difficult time believing it's predestined that the Boston Red Sox are just going to go to s***.
  8. Every guy in our rotation (Pomeranz included) has shown enough in the past not to be dismissed in 2-3 starts. We're barely into this thing.
  9. This new pitcher we got is alright, I guess.
  10. For anyone who has not completely deserted the Owens bandwagon: The PawSox won behind a strong start from Henry Owens, who struck out 10 in six innings while allowing just one unearned run. The tall left-hander has been using a new delivery and now has a 0.82 ERA in two starts. http://news.soxprospects.com/2017/04/cup-of-coffee-owens-boyd-lead-pawsox.html?m=1
  11. And rightly so...I share those concerns as well, as do most of us, I think. However, Buchholz is hardly ideal depth/protection for the rotation as he is inconsistent, frequently injured, and (for what he usually provides) expensive. We should be able to do better.
  12. I thought it made sense at the time, too, for what it's worth. Of course, the risk was there that he could go on one of his crazy hot streaks and we'd all end up kicking ourselves for a little while, but it doesn't appear that's going to be the case any time soon.
  13. Clearly Dombrowski made the right call in shedding Buch's salary when an opportunity presented himself...I know some questioned what this trade would do to our starting depth, but it wouldn't do us any good to be over the luxury tax threshold because Clay and his $13.5 million are sitting on the 60-day DL.
  14. Anyone else in NC? Baltimore games are always blacked out here (because that makes sense, MLB), so it's the radio for me this series. f*** the Orioles.
  15. True. For a brief moment there last summer it looked like we might have three legitimate blue-chip pitching prospects -- Espinoza, Kopech, and Groome -- to dream on, but now we really have almost all our eggs in the Groome basket. Maybe some of the secondary guys like Lakins or the others Moon named can take a big step forward, but I'm not exactly holding my breath.
  16. Epstein/Francona 2020
  17. Yeah, something tells me that trade isn't going to come back to bite us too badly. Also, I have to say that the Sale trade looks better all the time...if we don't make that deal, our current rotation is Porcello, Rodriguez, Wright, Pomeranz, and ???.
  18. We have a few guys off to really hot starts (Devers, Ockimey), but I like what Travis Lakins is doing in Salem - 1 ER in 11.1 IP with 17 K's thus far. The system looks pretty barren in pitching at this point, so we could really use someone like him stepping up.
  19. Showalter always acts like a whiny, jealous POS when it comes to the Red Sox, for some reason. Hope we kick his team's ass every time we play them.
  20. I've not been a fan of the trade at all, but that hardly means I don't want to see Drew succeed, and last night was a great start. If he can consistently be the guy we thought we were getting, then that takes our rotation to another level once we have everyone healthy.
