  1. My earliest kid-memories of the Sox are of the later Clemens and Vaughn era, I of course loved Pedro and Nomar in the late 90's but really got hooked in as a young teenager in 2003.
  2. I was in favor of keeping Lester and wanted Headley over Sandoval at the time.
  3. I really didn't think anyone questioned the Miller/Rodriguez trade any more. Six years of a promising SP prospect for 2 months of a soon-to-be-free-agent reliever on a garbage team going nowhere? I don't care if Eduardo is DFA'd tomorrow and never pitches for us again, I'd still make that trade 11 times out of 10.
  4. Not Anderson Espinoza, that's for sure.
  5. On the subject of Devers and where he is in his development, this is worth a read: http://fullcount.weei.com/sports/boston/baseball/red-sox/2017/05/16/red-sox-assistant-gm-eddie-romero-explains-why-rafael-devers-is-still-a-ways-away-from-majors/ (He also addresses the question of Benintendi/Devers not being an apples-to-apples comparison when it comes to time spent in the minors...)
  6. It's easy to see what Dombrowski was trying to do there, but I just can't see Pomeranz ever being consistent or durable enough to be the stud people were trying to paint him as when the deal happened. The fact that we had the chance to reverse the trade after finding out Pom was damaged goods, and chose not to, just adds insult to injury. Yeah, none of the parts in that package is all that objectionable individually, IMO, but all together, it's excessive. Allen is a solid pitching prospect who could start eventually, and he was the third piece in that deal. (Meanwhile, despite how hopelessly blocked we're always told Margot was in Boston, there's a thread on the front page asking if Jackie Bradley needs to be traded...I love me some JBJ, but I'm just saying...)
  7. Yeah, nevermind about Holliday...he actually has much better numbers this year than I realized. So that's one that (based on early results) we may have whiffed on, though as I recall he wasn't exactly a guy most Sox fans were clamoring for.
  8. You can throw in Bautista, Beltran, Holliday....as far as I can tell, Moreland has better numbers thus far than almost any of the alternatives that were floated. Presumably that will change at some point, but if we're looking at what this team has done thus far, none of those guys would have made us any better relative to Moreland. I can only imagine the outrage if Dombrowski had given 34-year-old Encarnacion a multiyear deal and forfeited a 1st round pick just for him to have a .694 OPS at this point in the season.
  9. The Kimbrel of this year so far (in contrast to 2016) has been the guy we thought we were getting and then some. I still don't think it's a great deal, but it's one we should be able to live with if Kimbrel continues to pitch like an elite closer. The Pomeranz deal is still the one I'd love to have back.
  10. NOBODY *flips over table and leaves thread*
  11. We know JBJ can hit...we also know he's streaky as hell. This year, unlike 2016, he's started off cold, so his overall numbers look like dog s***. He's also had a stint on the DL and has only played in 16 games. Give it time. I am bemused that anyone would "lobby daily" to get rid of Bradley just so that we could put Swihart in left, but perhaps I should leave it at that.
  12. Maybe we can sign Machado after next season (lol).
  13. Speier is the man, and I don't care what anyone says.
  14. Oh, I remember Moncada being rushed to the majors, and how that worked out. Benintendi was the best college hitter in the country when drafted and probably should have been promoted more quickly to begin with. Both were older than Devers is now. I mean, sure, it could happen, but it seems incredibly premature to even be talking about it.
  15. Kendrick is a washed-up veteran who was never much more than a #4/5 type in the NL and had a 6+ ERA the last time he pitched two seasons ago...I'd like to get excited about him, but I just can't. Better hope Price is back soon. As for Devers, let's be real, he's 20 years old and has been in Double-A for a month. I think a late-summer promotion to Pawtucket is about the best we can expect. I have zero expectations of seeing him in the majors before next season.
  16. Clown ejection, bro.
  17. Hopefully this satisfies everyone who was out for blood this week...
  18. It looks like this could be the year that Devers' numbers really start matching his raw talent. Still, I hope no one has the inkling to rush him to the major leagues the way Moncada was last year. He should be given all the time he needs.
  19. Will Middlebrooks has 4 HR and an OPS over 1.000 for Texas' AAA team...I wonder what it would take? (Seriously, though...what Dojji and Thunder said.)
  20. One can only imagine how the last few years would have been different if we'd been able to land Donaldson. Say what you will about Dombrowski, but something tells me he wouldn't have let something like this happen right under his nose.
  21. That's almost as bad as having a "fraction in your head."
  22. I'd rather see Sale strike him out three times. The Red Sox have made themselves look bad enough already in this whole debacle...the best and most appropriate revenge would be just beating these *******s.
