  1. What a f***ing embarrassment.
  2. Hey, we've all been there. ...put the blame where it belongs, on the Red Sox for marring your barbecue with a loss.
  3. Lol, wtf? I'm okay with Lackey...in my book, helping to deliver a championship gives one a pass for a lot of scowling, sulking, and whatever else it is that makes people dislike him so much. The real crime was that godawful trade with St. Louis that sent him out of town.
  4. A win is a win is a win is a win is a f***ing win. The bats broke out, Pomeranz was solid, and the shorthanded bullpen was able to bear down and fend off a rally from the defending world champs. That's a pretty good day to me. There will be something to really complain about soon enough, I'm sure.
  5. These guys have 2-3 months to start hitting before Dombrowski executes Order 66 on what prospects we have left and ships Devers, Groome, and whatever else remains in the farm system for a bat.
  6. I posted this on another thread as well, but people have to remember that any "power bat" we signed likely would have taken the place of Moreland, who is off to a hotter start than Encarnacion or any of the other popular alternatives; of course, that may not (and probably won't) hold true all season, but the point is we wouldn't be doing any better offensively thus far if we'd spent on the proven slugger many of us wanted. What is really needed is for Hanley, Pedroia, Bogaerts (where's the power?), and others down the line to step up. I'm still not convinced this will be a championship-caliber lineup unless we get best-case scenarios from everyone across the board (which won't happen, needless to say), but they shouldn't be this bad.
  7. I don't remember if I ever posted in this thread, but I voted for the loss of Papi and have been concerned about what this offense would look like for some time. It's still extremely early and far too soon to claim "victory" on that point (I'd much rather be wrong), but the early results are concerning to say the least. One has to hope this is just a cold spell and the bats will warm up along with the weather. It's worth noting that although many wanted a "power bat" to replace Ortiz and felt the Red Sox didn't do enough to replace him, Mitch Moreland is off to a better start at present than Encarnacion, Bautista, Beltran, Napoli, Trumbo, Morales, Holliday, or any of the other free agent DH types who were mentioned as candidates, so none of those guys would have made us better thus far. What's really needed is for the lineup, top to bottom, to step up. Only Moreland, Benintendi, and Betts are really hitting as expected or better right now.
  8. More like sent to Guantanamo, am I right?
  9. If Pedroia and Machado are such great buds, surely he could have texted him or otherwise made contact after the game to privately express his disagreement with how the matter was handled by Barnes/the Red Sox. I don't think anyone would have had a problem with that...but instead he chose to show up/call out a teammate in the middle of the game on live TV. There's a lot of wrong to go around in this whole affair, but something about that just really doesn't sit right with me.
  10. And tonight's game has been postponed...f***.
  11. *raises hand* Also, this is me lodging my annual objection to this thread that JBJ is awesome in his own right and does not need to be constantly compared to Ellsbury to be appreciated.
  12. Good to know we're not being overly dramatic here.
  13. Yeah, I made the mistake of catching up on the last couple pages of this thread and now regret it...
  14. Sandoval to the DL, Rutledge activated: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/04/red-sox-place-pablo-sandoval-on-10-day-dl.html
  15. Kind of dumb if Farrell instructed (explicitly or implicitly) his most invaluable reliever not named Kimbrel at this point in the season to throw at Machado, knowing a suspension was certain to follow. Why not put Abad in the game if you want to bean somebody...at least he'd be doing something useful to justify his roster spot. Anyway, the suspension is just and hopefully the whole affair is behind us.
  16. When we traded both Shaw and Moncada and failed to add some other third baseman who could credibly challenge for the starting job, it was clear the plan was to commit to Pablo, for better or worse. He's not going to be benched two weeks into the season.
  17. Pedroia clearly didn't give a s*** about the slide and for some reason went out of his way to publicly show up the team when retaliation was attempted. I don't think Barnes intended to throw at Machado's head, but the Sox still come out looking like *******s here. Whatever....great win!
  18. More of this, please.
  19. They will pay for it bigly, believe me, and it will be the biggest, most beautiful wall, such a wonderful wall, you will love it, it will be yuge, very yuuge.
  20. In what way?
  21. You don't need to rely on the eye test here, I don't think...there are objective reasons to believe Pablo's numbers probably should be better than they are at this point: Sandoval entered Wednesday ranked 15th in the majors with an average exit velocity of 93.2 mph, higher than Nelson Cruz, Bryce Harper and Yoenis Cespedes, among others, according to MLB Statcast. He’s been spraying line drives all over the field, though most of them have been landing in the gloves of opposing outfielders. He has a .176 average on balls in play, well below his career .306 average on balls in play. http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/red_sox/clubhouse_insider/2017/04/pablo_sandoval_red_sox_not_worried_about_his_batting
  22. Agree with all of the above. I'd have liked to see Sale finish it out, but Kimbrel has been dominant lately and was again today aside from one pitch. No issues with that decision.
  23. Sale might be the poster boy for why pitcher wins don't mean jack s***...he really could not have pitched any better in these first 4 starts, and he'll have 1 win to show for it.
