  1. Get this man some run support.
  2. You would think Detroit has a lineup full of throwback jerseys the way Chris is slicing them up.
  3. I don't 'hate' DD, either...I just don't think Pomeranz/Espinoza was a good trade. Also not a fan of the Kimbrel deal, though I think it's less egregious; I'm fine with what we gave to get Sale and believe he'll be worth it, and I'm not losing sleep over the cost of Smith, Thornburg, Hill, or any of the other smaller moves. The ultimate consequences of all of these transactions, of course, remains to be seen.
  4. I'm familiar with the arguments in favor of the trade, but I would argue the price we paid was not commensurate with the risk. Yeah, how could he have known Buch and Kelly would be unreliable? Also, Wright was healthy at the time of the trade, for whatever that's worth. Dombrowski assembled the 2016 rotation (and the depth options behind it), so of course he bears some measure of responsibility for the fact that it was coming apart at the seams by midseason. Why should he not? And sure, we were not in a position of strength, but I don't think that makes any trade we were able to pull off a good one. Make deals out of desperation and you're going to get taken advantage of, which is what all evidence to date would suggest happened.
  5. Well that, and the fact that Pomeranz at this point in his career looks like an injury-prone mediocrity who had one good half-season in San Diego at age 27. (I'd love for him to prove otherwise, but...)
  6. I've never been a big fan of the off day right after Opening Day...you mean I've waited 6 long months for baseball and now I have to wait even more? A whole day? f*** outta here. The opening series in Cleveland last year, where they played 2 games in 4 days or something due to bad weather, was the worst, though, and provoked such irrational anger on my part.
  7. I voted 10+ strikeouts, although it would feel more impressive or rare if the option was for 15+. Not much beats watching a truly overpowering pitching performance for me. (Looking at you, Mr. Sale...)
  8. Damn, he was looking like their last hope to play first base. (EDIT: I guess Selsky could, too.)
  9. True, but in the shorter term things do look rickety. Better hope Kelly, Barnes, Hembree, etc. can step up to compensate somewhat.
  10. Benintendi may bat third eventually, but that seems hasty when he has less than 2 months in the majors under his belt and the team already has Mookie Betts coming off a Trout-lite type season. I'm sure Beni will be great, but methinks we need to pump the brakes on the hype just a bit until he's proven more.
  11. At a certain point, all of the bitching about Price being a bust, not a fit for Boston (whatever that means), the next Carl Crawford, and so on kind of becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Some guys can tune out the noise from talk radio, social media, etc., but he does not seem to be one of those types. He takes that s*** personally and thinks all of Boston is out to get him, when in reality the vast majority realize he had a decent, not great, but certainly not terrible first year and are wishing and hoping nothing but the best for him moving forward. I get that these guys make an absurd amount of money and the fans have expectations, as we should, but short of a player clearly and blatantly not giving a f*** about their performance (which certainly isn't Price), I just don't see the point in this sort of constant, sometimes vicious, negativity that will only serve to dissuade future stars from coming to this market. You'd think some people would have learned from the John Lackey saga, but perhaps not.
  12. Well s***... Now watch Buchholz make 25+ starts for the Phillies with a sub-3.50 ERA.
  13. I'll just say that I think Porcello's take on this is the right one, and leave it at that.
  14. Levine is a moron. You think he asked for too much, fine...but what good can come of ripping one of your players publicly like that AFTER the arbitrator ruled in your favor?
  15. Keep the "garbage signings" (I forget who coined that term) coming!
  16. I'd really feel better about Dombrowski's whole body of work thus far if we could have this one trade back.
  17. A lot would have to simultaneously go wrong for us to even have to think about calling up Kendrick, so let's hope we get nothing out of him.
  18. Sarcasm really doesn't come through on the internet, I guess.
  19. Lol, why is cheap-ass Dombrowski wasting his time with these clowns?
  20. Unless you've got a near major league-ready prospect lined up, in the I think your 7/8/9/10/etc. depth starters are pretty much going to be bums by definition. If not Kendrick, that spot would go to another journeyman bum like O'Sullivan or an organizational bum like William Cuevas. Nothing to see here, really.
  21. He'll be our 7th starter at best, and hopefully more like 8th or 9th because Owens/Johnson end up taking steps forward. Ideally he'll never see Boston, but it's good to have the insurance.
  22. Slash, there's nothing wrong with having high expectations, but the vitriol that so often seems to come from them not being met is really uncalled for. (That's not a criticism of you specifically, but of a lot of Red Sox fans and some of the Boston media as well.)
