  1. It's looking like 2023 was not a fluke.
  2. Everybody Wong-Chang, tonight!
  3. Totally shocked that Yoshida grounded out to the right side.
  4. I doubt a single poster or Sox fans would say they preferred extending Devers to Betts. It's a shame it turned out this way. One could drop the "e" on shame and make an even better point.
  5. Really? I never heard that excise used, before.
  6. 1. Duran 2. O'Neill 3. Devers 4. Casas 5. Romy 6. Reyes 7. Yoshida 8. Wong 9. Rafaela
  7. If they did not, last year, while the sham was in bloom, (pun intended) why would they do it for an obvious punt season? What I don't get is why can't we just get a min wage glove SS?
  8. The thing about fielding is that it is pretty much known before a guy ever plays in the bigs. Very few players proved themselves on D after leaving the minors.
  9. It's pretty much the same rotation as last year. It's not unusual to expect pitchers to no go from bad/ok to great, all at once. 2023 Games started: 28 Bello (team was 17-11 in his starts) 23 Crawford (9-14) 21 Houck (9-12) 20 Sale (12-8) 19 Paxton (8-11) 16 Pivetta (7-9) 10 Whitlock (6-4) 9 Kluber (3-6) Our 5 starters had a team W-L record of 48-50 in their starts (49% win,) and in starts by others, many by Kluber and "openers," the team went 30-34 (47%.) I'm trying to remain optimistic about this rotation. I have posted how all of them have had some rather long stretches of pitching very well as SP'ers, but none have ever put a full season together. It should be viewed as long odds that 4 or 5 of them put it all together at the same exact time. (I'm not trying to rain on their or your parade. They can do it. I'm just saying it's not illogical to expect things won't end up all that great for these 5 starters, combined.
  10. You said it better than I. To me, this is often overlooked as a reason pitcher numbers look worse than they should under just normal situations. Imagine having pitchers on your team that had a plus defense behind them, especially at SS!
  11. That's a winning combo, if we end up there. Where I think we end up, is not.
  12. Stop feeding Vegas all this unconditional Grissom love!
  13. I can’t wait for Devers to be able to bat with 2 hands and arms! He has not been very good, so far, but he has still been better, one-handed than half the team using 2 hands!
  14. This is great news. It will really hurt the all important prospect rankings, soon! Lol
  15. lol. Yes from their first to second start is of late!
  16. I’m counting on expected age progression growth for most of our pre prime and early prime players, who are basically everybody but Refsnyder. Devers, Casas, O’Neill, Yoshida, Duran, our catchers should get better. Grissom, Rafaela, Abreu are unknowns. I look at other teams and see as many or more what ifs than us for all but 8-10 teams. Do you think Soto will keep the Yanks ahead of us on O? Remember, we lost some real bad O players over the winter. Too
  17. Not to me. I really like Grissom and am very confident he will bf a fine 2Bman for us over the next 5 years. The condition is that my opinion is not based on a large MLB sample size. The urgency is related to other poorer options, yes.
  18. It's all been conditional love.
  19. I think the O will end up 8th to 12th. Pitching 13th to 17th Defense 20th to 24th Running 6th to 10th.
  20. fWAR Pitching 2.7 BOS 2.2 PIT & KCR 2.1 PHI 2.0 CLE Pitchers (10+ IP) 0.8 Bieber (out for season) 0.7 Wheeler & Glasnow 0.6 Houck, Burnes, Gallen & Crochet 0.5 Crawford & 10 others, including Montas 0.4 Pivetta & 14 others, including Wacha 0.3 has 25 pitchers, including Stroman, Severino, Sale and Seth Lugo 5+ IP T4 Houck (0.6) T9 Crawford (0.5) T19 Pivetta & Whitlock (0.4) T38 Slaten & Martin(0.3) T112 Bello & Wink (0.1)
  21. MLB Leaders in wRC+ (299 players with 20+ PAs, or about 10 per team) 1. O'Neill 276 2. Betts 244 3. Steer 229 4. Trout 222 11. Turner 198 21. McGuire 182 114. Duran 122 142 Devers 107 171. Casas 93 200. Yoshida 75 213 Rafaela 68 219 Story 66 (out for year) 293 EValdez -22 (7th worst in MLB) Wong is at 92 in 16 PAs. Reyes is at 18 in 17 PAs. Abreu +2 in 18 PAs.
  22. We are 19th in fWAR for everyday players. (+0.9) We'd need to be at 1.4 to be #15, 2.1 to be top 10 and 2.6 to be top 5 (NYY.) fangraphs has us 17th on O and 21st on D. 17th on wRC+ 16th in OPS 14th in Runs, which is about average. It looks like... Top 5 in pitching Top 10 in Baserunning Middle 5-10 in batting Bottom 10 in defense
  23. Agreed, but he has great appeal, to me.
