  1. He just too unpredictable on so many levels- from offense to defense to emotional, mental and body type (Physical). He changed positions. He changed his stance and approach more than any player I have ever seen, and it's just been 6 seasons, including two tiny sample size ones. He missed the road trip to TOR during COVID. He's had numerous run-ins with fans. He's had countless base-running and defensive, mental blunders. He's had stretches, some very long, where he looks like a top 15 to 20 everyday player in MLB. Other times, he looks average. Still others, he looks totally lost- both on O and D. Nothing in baseball is predictable, but you try and get as close to it as you can, and with this guy, it's impossible.
  2. I don't see how anyone's opinion has not changed, at least to some degree. We still have way too many teams between us and the WC berth, but looking at the run diff numbers of those teams, they are due to regress to their norm. +101 NYY (13 over .500) +24 TBR (15 over .500) +18 CWS (4 over, but are they really this good?) +5 BOS (13 under!!! Talk about snakebitten!) +4 SEA (1 under and the last WC berth) -3 DET (14 under is about as shocking as the Sox) -8 TEX (at .500 and the last 2nd of 3 WC berths) -8 CLE (4 over- go figure) -26 BAL (7 under) -30 MIN (just 5 under) -33 TOR (just 6 under) -36 LAA (13 under) -42 HOU (just 2 under is amazing!) -70 KCR (15 under is about right)
  3. If the deadline was tonight, I'd buy. I would not trade Arias. I'd look at trading farm pitching for a bat upgrade or two. Close call.
  4. Of course how this season ends will have something to do with how this game ranked in Sox-Yanks lore, but wow, what a finish! Duran Duran! Hungry Like a Wolf!
  5. It was 4-2 into the bottom of the tenth, but yes, we never come back like that. On Chapman, they scored on a flyball to Abreu and a terrible throw, then a chopper up the middle for a fielder's choice, followed by 2 Ks. Chapman is more than fine.
  6. Yup. The situation was similar to Bloom's, except Bloom didn't make 3 great moves like these in his whole time with the Sox! LOL
  7. PLUS BENNETT!!! It might be the 3-4 best off seeason adds in a single season in Sox history. Note: we are just halfway through the season, so this could change. Add Durbin, Coulombe, Guerrero, Seigler, Monasterio & IKF. What have we heard a lot of? Harrison, Drohan, DHam and Jordan.
  8. I mentioned this before. Also, Coulombe has done pretty well, too! After last night's Chapman performance, Coulombe now has the best OPS Against on the staff! 50+ PAs Against .580 Coulombe .581 Chapman .586 Tolle (hard to do as a starter) .605 Moran (done with rehab) .606 Bennett (second rookie leading the rotation) .607 Suarez (great signing by Brez) .614 Kelly (in AAA) .620 Whitlock (not a typo) .639 Guerrero (another hidden gem addition) .663 Gray (great trade, and got STL to pay $20M1) ____________________ .713 Samaniego (another Brez add) .725 Weissert (meh) .726 Early (3rd rookie in rotation) .764 Watson (double meh) __________________ .818 Crochet .852 Bello .871 Slaten Whodathunk these 3 would be the bottom-dwellers?
  9. Agreed. All they look at is 3 months of Gray's value minus his salary vs 5-6 years of the average value of a B Comp Pick.
  10. Maybe Fenway is not such a bad place for the Sox ro play, anymore. Let's hope so: we play 3 more vs the Nats, starting tomorrow. (Afternoon game on WED for a getaway to LAA for Friday's start to a 3 game series.) Then, after a day off to CWS for 3 (time to pass those pretenders) and to play 3 at the Mets to finish 9 games on the road. ASB The fun then begins: Home for 4 v TBR, 3 v BAL & 3 v TOR. Perfect chance to make a move in the division. There is a doubleheader on JUL 17th (first day back after ASB) and no days off from then until JUL 23 (between BAL & TOR) Then, no days off, even between the 10 game homestand and the 7 game west coast swing (ATH & LAD JUL 27-AUG 2) That's into trade deadline time. We got to make a solid move, right now.
  11. I think that's it. Usually the "mutual" option favors the player, but at 38 a guaranteed deal is very valuable. BTW, he'll be 39 before next season starts. He's at 24.2 IP at the halfway point, so 40 may not be a sure thing.
  12. When is the last time the Sox had 5 SP'ers below 3.60. What's more amazing is we are missing our ... #1 Crochet #4 Houck #5 Bello #6-7 Sandoval #7-8 Crawford #8-9 Oviedo ERAs 2.69 Gray, 2.78 Tolle (nearing IP qualification) 2.83 Suarez, 3.27 Bennett & 3.49 Early (leads the team in IP) Our 2 best RP'ers: 2.19 Chapman & 2.70 Whitlock
  13. The Sox have not let up 4 runs in 9 IP since letting up 4 on June 18th. They have not let up more than 4 since June 16th. (12 games) Starters and pen. Before tonight's game- 12 previous games: 2.44 ERA SP'er 1.82 (41 ERA-) It only got better with Gray's game tonight! I guess it is possible to win with pitching afterall. (Sorry Fred!)
  14. Well, the Sox lose the chance to not bring him back, so that's a plus for someone his age.
  15. I wish you were someone else's GM calling on Duran.
  16. Yes, I missed him. Maybe late AUG-SEP at best?
  17. Yoshida and Ward. Eaton can play OF, if needed. All should hit .620ish or better.
  18. Yesterday, the Rays passed the Yanks for the ALE lead: today the Rangers (42-42) passed the Mariners (42-43) for the ALW lead. CLE (44-40) & CWS (43-39) are tied for the ALC lead. We remain 5 GB the last WC slot (SEA), but we gained on a few teams in between. SEA 42-43 (+4 Run Diff) WC GB 0.5 HOU (-42) 1.0 A's (-51) 2.0 MIN (-30) 2.5 TOR (-33) 3.0 BAL (-26) 5.0 BOS (+4 is tied for 4th best in AL) Gotta win tonight to gain a half game on everyone.
