  1. Career splits: vs RHP: .799 Yoshida .783 Valdez vs LHPs .790 Refsnyder (.910, last 3 years combined) .697 Yoshida This will be my last post about Yoshida vs Vadlez/Ref at DH. Yoshida kis our DH for many more years. He is looking better, this year.
  2. LOL. QuickQ: which poster had the most posts about Yoshida, last year?
  3. I agree 100%. I liked the trade and hope we look to do more like it.
  4. I can see why we kept Heineman on the 40 and Gasper as further non 40 depth. That's what team's do. We might get another Heineman, next year and keep gasper where he is. If they think Teel will be ML ready by opening day, they won't add him to the 40 until the day before he will be promoted, as they should,
  5. Was the price even mildly high on Fedde?
  6. They ended Yoshida's "nonsense" in LF, too. Valdez would be a fine DH vs RHPs, which is about 400 PAs a year, with some PH'ing mixed in. He should never play 2B or LF, so that lessens his value to us and to a potential trade partner, but Yoshida is a DH only player, too. Yoshida hits LHP'er way better than Valdez, but not as well as Refsnyder. To me, haveing a Valdez-Refnsyder DH platoon would be as good or better than Yoshida, on paper, but they take up 2 slots on the 26. That does not make much difference as Ref would still be the 4th or 5th OF'er, as he is now, and Valdez would only DH, like Yoshida does, now. Anyway, we aren't trading Yoshida, so this is all moot. We should trade Valdez for the best we can get, no matter how little that might be. He is wasting a 40 man roster slot on our DH-only team. Other teams don't have a Yoshida and might want him.
  7. You always crack me up. Never change!
  8. Randy actually did not say he won't "cut it in the Major leagues," so again, STORK is never factually correct. He said he won't cut it with the Sox, which may or may not have been about several players being ahead of Yorke on the LF and 2B lists: LF: Duran Abreu (if Anthony goes to RF & Rafaela to CF FT) Refsnyder Campbell E Valdez (Distantly: Jh Garcia, Bleis, Montgomery, Cespedes or Zanetello...) 2B Story or Mayer (whoever does not play SS) DHam-Grissom platoon Romy Campbell EValdez Meidroth Sogard/Westbrook (Distantly: maybe Cespedes or Zanetello, Romero, Riemer, Arias)
  9. Indeed, and I did not mention anything given up, unless it was a 2024 player in return.
  10. HOU scored 3 unearned runs to beat PIT 5-4. YUCK! Sox are still 2 down from KCR & MIN. -6.5 from NYY -7.0 from BAL upcoming series: BAL @ CLE (4 games) KCR @ DET (4) TOR @ NYY (3) BOS @ TEX (3) TBR @ HOU (3) CWS @ MIN (3) Then... HOU @ TEX MIN @ CHC BOS @ KCR LAA @ NYY BAL @ TOR
  11. Agreed, which means Anthony and Campbell do not start the season in MLB. If Anthony joins the OF, we'll be too LHBish. I hope Mayer is ready to play SS to start 2025, but who know? A DHam-Grissom combo at 2B might be okay, but we'd need 145+ games from Story for that to work. I'm not sure Campbell will play 2B for the Sox, but can he be worse than EValdez on D? Romy is nice depth.
  12. This could all happen by mid or late season '25. I do think replacing RHB O'Neill with LHB Anthony would necessitate a trade of LHB Abreu for pitching, and we'd have to add a big RHB, somewhere. We are loaded, everywhere but 2B/SS, unless you think Story will rebound or Campbell jumps the LHB Mayer. I'm not sure they view Gasper as being the back-up, or they would be playing him at catcher, now, more than Heineman. I'm not sure Luetge is all that good, and I still have hopes ICampbell or Weissert. We might also see Sandlin, Fitts, Dobbins or Murphy rise up and win a slot on the 26, at some point in '25.
  13. He gave up nothing I will fret about and got something useful, including a pitcher with 6 years of control (Priester.) I like the overall moves. I wish we had done more, but I don't know what teams were asking for what was out there. I can't help but think we could have offered more that what Fedde got, without going top 8 or 9, but who knows. We still have the same long term hopes and are better off in 2024.
  14. According to soxprospec ts.com, we lost the following ranked prospects near the deadline: 12. Yorke (might have moved up to 10-11) 13. Lugo 15. Paulino 28. C Coffey 29. Portes 37. Zeferjahn 50. Walter (DFA) Other than moving up by attrition, I doubt we see many major jumps or falls. I'm guessing they go like this (not my picks:) 1. Anthony (1) 2. Mayer (2) 3. Teel (3) 4. Campbell (5, was 22) 5. Bleis (4) 6. Perales (6) may fall some, due to injury 7. Cespedes (6) injury will not help 8. Sandlin (9, was 12) 9. Fitts (8, was 9) 10. Meidroth (11, was 14) 11. Arias (14, was 25) 12. E R-C (16, was 23) 13. Zanetello (10, was 13) 14. Jh Garcia (23, was 49) 15. Castro (17, was 15) 16. Dobbins (21, was 24) 17. Early (24, was 47) 18. Jo Garcia (18) 19. Jordan (19, was 16) 20. Mullins (27, was 42) 21. Romero (26, was 27) 22. Valera (42, was NR) 23. D Reyes (43, was NR) 24. B Horn (32, -) 25. J Paez (38, 48) 26. Gonzalez (20, was 8) 27. Monegro (25, was 21) 28. Ascensio (NR) 29. Riemer (NR) 30. N Dean (46, NR) 31. Wehunt 32. Guerrero (30, was 28) 33. L Cohen 34. Ingrassia 35. D Kirwin 36. I Coffey 37. Hickey (33, 17) 38. Gambrell (34, 32) 39. Rogers (52, 37) 40. S Nunez (53) Dropped from top 30: Penrod (22, was 35)
  15. Yes, I've mentioned it being a waste to have a platoon DH and take up two roster spots, but consider this: Yoshida does not play OF, anymore, and he's worse than Ref in the OF. EValdez is likely just as bad at 2B as Yoshida is in LF, but 2B gets more chances to be exposed. I guess EValdez can play LF about as badly as Yoshida, so if we replaced Yoshide with Valdez, not much changes, except Ref DHs vs LHPs and not corner OF. That means we need another RHB for 25, like maybe O'Neill extended. Either way, Yoshida isn't going anywhere, so Valdez should. He won't bring back much, but he does have an excellent bat vs RHPs.
  16. For sure. I hope we do more deals like this. We need to trade from excess strength areas to beef up our pitching, even if some don't work out. We still have duplicated values that can't possibly all play near FT over the next 2-3 years: OF: Duran, Rafaela, Abreu (Ref '25>Campbell '26), Anthony, EValdez 2026 or later: Jh Garcia, Montgomery, Castro 2027 or later: Cespedes (infield?) Bleis Middle IF is more mediocre, but still has quantity (although some may end up in the LF) Story, Mayer, DHam, Romy, Grissom, EValdez (LF/DH) Meidroth 2026 or later: Campbell ('25?) Romero, Riemer 2027 or later: Cespedes, Zanetello, Arias, Alcantara C/DH: Gasper, Hickey, Jo Garcia, Brannon
  17. There will always be hindsight complaining, if Yorke turns into a peppermint patty and Priest is defrocked. I like the strategy. So far, I like this deal and hope we make more like it.
  18. Anthony (3-4 w BB) with 2 dingers, tonight. Promote him! Campbell & Teel 2-5 No Mayer in line-up. Sikes 3-5 w HR ICoffey is 8-2 (3.84) after 5 IP, 3H, 2ER, 3BB, 2K GRE is up 7-0 through 5. E R-C: 5IP, 3H, 0ER, 1BB, 3K Romero 3-3 w HR & 2B (.832, now) Bleis 2-3 Gotta think some guys will be promoted to fill the holes of traded players- not just for that reason, but because they have earned it and could use a greater challenge. Anthony, Mayer, Teel & maybe Campbell, Jordan or Dobbins to AAA Maybe... Jh Garica, Castro, Romero & E R-C to AA Valera, Cohen (maybe Dean) and Arias to GRE
  19. Devers' smile is a repeatable skill!
  20. I mentioned that, but I still think .872 does not detract from "unbelievable" all year long. BTW, clutch is not a skill set.
  21. More Devers numbers: 2nd in IBB with 9 (Seager at 10) 3rd in ISO .300 3rd SLG at .606 4th in XBH 55 (Duran is 3rd at 58) 5th in OPS .900 (.002 from Whitt) 8th in OBP .384 (.001 from Kwan) 9th in BA .306 (.003 from a tie for 6th) 9th in HRs 24 17th in RBI 69 (5 from 8th and 8 from 4th)
  22. He went 1 month at .872, but failed to get many hits w RISP. It just seemed like a small sample size to get so critical about.
  23. Of course, the Yanks, Twins and Royals all won. (The O's lost.)
  24. .872 APR (3 Hrs 7 RBI) .919 MAY (7-19) 1.015 JUN (8-19) 1.107 (JUL 6-23 before tonight)
  25. Yes, his .940 mark on June 30th sucked. (JUst joshin' ya.)
