  1. To NYY: Mark Leiter Jt TO CHC: Ben Cowles & Jack Neely
  2. Trevor Rogers to O's (makes me wonder if the Sox were in it to the end, and decided on Sims, instead.)
  3. Trevor Rogers to O's (makes me wonder if the Sox were in it to the end, and decided on Sims, instead.)
  4. He's pretty good, despite the high BB rate of 4.6 career and 5.7 last 3 seasons. He's a rental with a 1.2 K/9 over the last 3 years. He's 30. On June 10th, he had an ERA of 4.43 and an FIP of 6.16. It's been 2.40/3.16 since then (15 IP 13Hits 7BB 17Ks 1 HR) .645 OPSA. Portes was raising eyebrows, but you gotta give to get.
  5. Yes, I left them out of the WC talk, but if they win the division, HOU AND SEA would both be in the WC race- not just one. We are 2.5 up on HOU and SEA, now, so both are very much in the WC race, especially since we play SEA two more times, and HOU 6 times. (TEX 6 as well.)
  6. Lower level players are not in demand, like they used to be. Teams want ML ready or near ML ready prospects. It would be "selling low" on Bleis, Cespedes, Zanetello, Arias and others. I may be a homer, but I think our midlevel prospects are as good or better than most teams and should be enough to get us better pitching than Paxton. ML'er Valdez Meidroth Lugo Hickey Kavadas (We got Tommy Pham for Northcut) Jordan Castro (Gasper, Sogard. Alvarez, maybe not) I'd trade Abreu for a pitcher with 2.3 years of control.
  7. I still think a Ref-Valdez platoon is better, but who wastes two roster spots on DHs? I'm happy Yoshida is doing well.
  8. It's been a complete flip flop that actually began before the AS break but accelerated, then. The D improved a lot, but has dipped, recently.
  9. Exactly. We have some bottle-necked everyday players- many of whom look best at LF and DH. I realize LF/DH types don't bring back the value their OPS seems to call for, but more deals like the Yorke one would help our longer term outlook with the staff. How many OF'er can we play, at once? Duran, Rafaela, Abreu, O'Neill >Campbell, Ref>Anthony, Lugo & Valdez Farther away: Montgomery, Jh Garcia, Bleis, Cespedes, Cason & Castro We are not strong at middle IF, but we have too much quantity: Mayer & Story DHam-Romy platoon is nice depth Campbell, Meidroth, Grissom with Valdez & Lugo in a pinch Farther away: Arias, Romero, Reimer, Cespedes, Zanetello, Anderon & Nunez We do not have the strength or depth at back up corner IF to trade any away. We do have some catcher/DH types behind Wong and Teel: Gasper, Jo. Garcia, Hickey & Brannon
  10. The Pedro deal, yes, but Cespedes for Porcello was not. Casey Fossum and Beeks may have been somewhat highly ranked in the Sox system, but that's not saying hey were real promising. Kopech was highly regarded. Montas and Iggy for Peavy, maybe. Miller for ERod, yes. Anibal Sanchez for Beckett was much more about HRam. We can include Fitts, Sandlin or Mata in a deal for an ace, if you want. Hell, give all 3.
  11. All the additions are marginal. Jansen and Paxton should help, but nothing all that meaningful, so far. These two should beat out Phan and Hosmer, but I don't really call this "picking a lane," we I understood that term used.
  12. Agreed.
  13. I'm not sure player's values go that up and down based on a game or two, but if they do, it went back up, last night.
  14. I'm not for selling, but this post makes sense. If Pivetta can get even close to that haul, we could do that, and also trade for Flaherty, Bassitt, T Anderson, Skubal or Crochett. (Cal Quantrill or Gomber might replace Pivetta.) There are still plenty of RP'ers out there. I have not heard Pete Fairbanks mentioned, but I'd like him. Chad Green, too. Tanner Scott and H Strickland will be costly. Others : Trevor Richards, T Holton, Shelby Miller, Jason Foley, Wil Vest, Ryan Walker and the two T Rogers from SFG
  15. I was only mildly concerned about Cason, but we got him for $1.2M (about a $1M over slot.)
  16. Agreed, and maybe right behind Perales. 1. Anthony 2. Mayer 3. Teel 4. Campbell 5. Cespedes 6. Bleis 7. Perales 8. Priester 9. Meidroth 10. Arias 11. Sandlin 12. Fitts 13. Zanetello 14. Lugo 15. Jo. Garcia 16. Jh. Garcia 17. E R-C 18. Dobbins 19. Early 20. Valera/Portes Dropped from top 20: Yorke traded Castro (maybe 22nd) Paulino Jordan Wikelman
  17. I'm not for giving up 3 of the top 4 for him, and may not want to totally let them choose which 2 to get, so bringing up the 3 is ends the talk on Skubal for me to say even maybe. I'm hesitant even give up 2 plus Bleis or Cespedes, but how else do we get an ace without JH spending big bucks?
  18. If he can finish out his term at .350, it will be a decent contract. Not great and not really even good for a DH-only signing, but not bad.
  19. I totally agree. Advancing metrics has a place in decision-making, but so does the human element. We have made some (slow) changes, at the top and in the area of talent discovery, acquisition and development. It might take years to see a change to the good. Perhaps we already are seeing it, our recent meltdown, notwithstanding. The one are I'd like to see us move towards is dealing from strength (everyday players) for pitching. I think it is easier to evaluate pitchers on the farm and in MLB than those in college, high school or in other countries. This makes even more sense, under the idea that JH is stingy with large and long FA pitcher signings. Pedro Schilling Beckett Sale Porcello ERod Nate Peavy Beats... Price Lackey Giolito (Add Richards to Kluber)
  20. This is huge, from you! (I hope you didn't jinx him.... LOL )
  21. That was an insane return, especially when compared to Fedde. Pivetta has been better over the longer term. We will not be sellers, this year. I'm still waiting to see the "lane"
  22. I'm sold. 6th best fWAR since 2023 (200+ IP) 2.52 ERA and a 2.36 FIP (2.70 xFIP) Just under an 11:1 K:BB rate Best ERA- at 61 Best xFIP- 64 Best K-BB% No other top 5 pitcher is as young (27,) under team control for 2 more seasons (3 playoff cycles) and is available. What are you waiting for?
  23. Braves get Jorge Soler RHB.
  24. Skubal has 2 arb years left and may not want to sign an extension, but getting JH to offer one would likely be the biggest obstacle, anyway. I'm not sure this is what JH might do, because keeping the top prospects would cost less than Skubal.
  25. The Sox are up on HOU & SEA in the standings, but one will make the playoffs by winning the ALW. I'm not sure the ALC will send 3 teams to the playoffs, but as of now, three are in. CLE has a comfortable lead, so it will likely come down to BAL or NYY winning the ALE and the WC 1 slot. These teams will battle it out: 58-47 MIN +2.0 on BOS (two less losses) 58-49 KCR +1.0 on BOS (tied in losses) 56-49 BOS 56-52 SEA -1.5 from BOS (3 more losses) 54-52 TBR -2.5 from BOS (3 more losses) TEX seems to be buying, but they have 6 more losses than BOS.
