    I agree. I think we'll just DFA IKF, and only need to add 4. We'll go with 3 catchers and maybe even DH AR, some, if he's hitting well.     While I've been life-long believer in Catchers making a big difference in how pitchers do, as long as the guy is good, I'm not sure it matters much. Some pitchers are quirky, and it's more about comfort and routine than how good the catcher is defensively, but it looks like Tolle is not that type. I doubt Bennet is either.

    Gasper has options, but yes, he should be one of the first to be DFA'd once someone needs to come off the 60 (first one?) If we DFA Roger (NO!!!!) then we might keep Gasper as (eeek!) Catching depth.

    Everytime I hear or say, "THis generation_____" in some sort of bad context, I always think about how people said the same about my generation and the ones before and after. Take a look at the state of the world, today. My generation has been "in charge" for a while now, and this is on us. We were also responsible for raising the next generation, so.... ...something about glass houses.

    The first bullet makes no sense, unless I'm reading it wrongly. Series opening wins = winning the first game of the series. We've won the first game in 11 straight series and 17 out of 20, but we lost the first game in 7 out of the previous 8 series, before this amazing run.

    One concern heard when talking- before and after the AR trade- about replacing Narvaez was upsetting pitcher routines and comfort zones. These may be the guys we need to watch closely:: CERA/COPSA Bennett: 2.05/.518 w Narvaez & 5.73/.821 w Wong Tolle: 2.86/.474 w Narvaez & 3.97/.759 w Wong (1.50/.350 in 6IP w Rogers!) Career is a bit closer: 4.05/.619 Narvaez & 3.97/.744 w Wong. Gray has been better w Wong. Suarez about the same. Sandoval pitched one game with Narvaez but did way better with Wong. I think we'll be okay with Rogers then AR (or all 3.)

    Yanks score 2 in the bottom of the 9th and 1 in the 10th to beat ATL. The Rays also won by a run at SEA.     No days off for 12 more days. When you're hot, sometimes you don't want days off, but after that long game, we may need to get creative with roster moves- just to get some fresh arms. 2 v ATH 4 at TOR 3 at PIT 3 v AZ (day off) 3 v SFG 3 at MIA (day off) 4 at NYY (in 3 days) No days off until Sept 10th, so 14 games in 13 days

    Many talked about needing an innings eater SP'er, even beyond the idea that Bennett and Tolle might need some rest. Miller was an okay add, but he's not really a work horse. Having Bello in the pen helps. We may need to rotate some AAA arms into the 26 every 2-3 days, and eventually bring back Weissert. Right now, our AAA choices are: Rivera Gamboa Samaniego Weissert Possible add-ons: Wehunt, Holobetz, Ziehl, Bastardo or Paez

    I'd keep Rogers on the 26, even if we carry 3 catchers to Sept 1st. DFA Gasper. Demote Sogard first. (We could even demote Wong for a few days, just to keep Rogers.) Burgos or Gamboa goes when and if Crochet is added. Story would bump Seigler of bump and DFA Jones.

    I was surprised by all the draftees higher rankings. I'd have Brannon in my top 20 and Jo Garcia close to 20-22. Holobetz at #9 is pretty telling. It's not far off from my placement. Bastardo, Paez & Rivera in the top 20? Geeesh. Maybe Winnay and Brannon belong, but our farm did take a big hit. We gotta hope this draft comes through, but we may also be surprised by how good some of our real young guys turn out: 2. Gonzales 19 and at GRE 3. Primera 19 and at SAL 5. Valera 20 GRE 6. Schaffner 21 GRE 7. Delzine 18 SAL (pitched well tonight) 10. Rivas 18 FCL 13. Mataczynski 18 FCL 14. Cespedes 20 POR (seems like he should be 23) 15. Shelar 19 FCL 16. Soto 18 FCL 24 Ge Rod 20 GRE 29 Ramos 18 FCL 30. Silverio 17 DSL 32. LaFavor 18 FCL 33. Brito 17 DSL Plus... Arias is just 20 and in AAA. 4.     Since 1961, the Sox are the only time a club has 6 series sweeps vs division leaders. Last night broke a team streak of 28 games not allowing 6 or more runs. 2nd longest since 1920 (Sox in '67.) This is history, folks.

    Just got caught up to live time. Tolle is getting better and better. The offense is a well-oiled machine. I keep thinking this can't last, and after last night's game, I thought maybe there could be a letdown, but NOPE!

    In order of when expected back... I think we keep 3 catchers, even if AR comes back before Sept roster expansion. I think Jones goes. Story returns next on Sept 1st, so no demotion needed. Mead returns in September, and Sogard is demoted. (Gasper DFA'd) Crochet may not comeback, but Burgos demoted (Burgos or Gamboa DFA'd). IKF will be DFA'd unless Seigler is slumping.

    We traded him for Ronny Hernandez, who will be Rule 5 eligible this coming winter.

    A while ago we DFA'd our RP'er IP leader in Watson (56 IP) and now we just demoted current RP'er IP leader in Weissert (45 IP.) Moran & Bello are at 44 and Whitlock 43.

    I almost always like the trade more a day or two afterwards. For the last week or two before the deadline, I talked a lot about adding a catcher, since it was one slot with the lowest offense, in particular Narvaez. I wasn't really anti-Narvaez. I actually think he'll be okay- maybe never 2025 on offense, again, but not like .550. I wasn't that thrilled with the trade and felt it was an overpay before Azocar, but upon further thinking, I'm okay with the deal. I liked the Mead trade better. I understand why we traded Mayer, but ultimately it was a sell low trade. Who knows, maybe his value would drop to zero. I'm not bummed at Miller, but there have been many pitchers like him that don't last long. The Uberstine deal barely moves the needle.
