  1. Who says? He's not worth $37M x 3. They might take Yoshida + Abreu for deGrom and save $19M a year.
  2. He's paid about the same as the guy he knows: Yoshida.
  3. That's what ATL fans said when they acquired Sale. LOL
  4. If TOR lets Vladdy walk, maybe they kick into rebuild mode and look to trade one or two from... $18.7M x 4 Berrios $22M x 2 Gausman $21M x 1 Bassitt Would you trade Casas and Yoshida for Berrios & Gausman? (I doubt JH agrees.)
  5. I almost listed deGrom on my list of high-priced pitchers that we could trade Yoshida for. It would scale back his $37M x 3 remaining deal. Basically, Yoshida at $18M x 3 for deGrom $37M x 3 would mean we pay deGrom about $19M x 3. Our DH could be Refnsyder-EValdez or Ref-Abreu with Anthony in RF, which is a step up in DH and RF production projections.
  6. To me, Anthony was ML ready, this year, so I'm all for putting him in the OF day one, of the first day after we gain an extra year of control on him. As much as I understand the need for a RH'd power bat, I don't see OF as the spot for that. I see a bottleneck, already. LF: Duran, Refsnyder (Yoshida DH) E Valdez CF: Rafaela, Anthony, Duran RF: Anthony, Abreu (Refsnyder DH) Sogard
  7. I'm having a hard time tyyyyyyping.
  8. Isn't that what they all say? Remember when Liam Hendriks was set to return around Aug 1st, then the 15th, then Sept 1st, then a set back, and then 2025?
  9. Taking on salary via trade is not something I envision happening, this winter, even though it can be a way to improve the team without needing a high return package. I came up with a list of some higher priced pitchers that could maybe help our team in 2025 or could be worth taking a chance on, if the other team took on some or most of Yoshida's contract. One example might be trading Yoshida ($18M x 3) + Abreu for Musgrove at $20M x 3. Here are some names and remaining contracts. I have no way of knowing if they are available, how healthy some are, of if we even want to take a chance on them. Most may not want Yoshida, even if the money evens out. Gausman 22x 3, Bassitt 21 x1, Berrios 18.7 x 4, Luis Castillo 21.6 x 3 Rodon 27 x4, Stroman 18.5 x 2, Pablo Lopez 18.4 x 3, Sonny Gray 25 x 2, Darvish 18 x 4 (37 y/o) Javier 12.8 x 3, Taillon 17 x 2, Mitch Keller 15.4 x 4, ERod 20 x 3, Freeland 12.9 x 2, R Ray 23 x 2 Mikolis 18.6 x 1, S Matz 11 x 1, T Anderson 13 x 1, Mahle 11 x 1, Nick Martinez 13 x 1 Closer: R Suarez 9.2 x 3
  10. Yes. If your 1.5 SP'er bumps a 0.1 RP'er to AAA, the $ WAR guy, actually replaced the 0.1 guy for a 3.9 gain.
  11. E Valdez had a very nice offensive run in the minors, for what that is worth. (He is a career .743 v RHPs in 320 PAs.) To me, his only true worth might be as a platoon DH, and how many teams are putting that need on their winter wish list? If we didn't have Yoshida, maybe an EValdez-Ref platoon would do well, but I don't think we will be trading Yoshida.
  12. The DFA is highly likely- not a trade.
  13. He was at .952 v LHPs in 2023 and is .880 career. I'm not sure the 2024 number is who he is. I'm not looking for adding an OF'er, even if we trade Abreu.
  14. Agreed. I see Horn, mata and gasper all being traded or DFA'd.
  15. The Luis Roberts choice is interesting. He has underperformed his projections, but still has some serious skills. Some sort of trade involving Crochet could be expanded to include Roberts. He bats RH'd, but our OF ids already loaded. I can't see he and Rafaela playing near FT in our 3 man OF with Duran and Anthony. (I'm assuming Abreu is traded and Ref is used at DH, only.) Maybe Abreu and Rafaela would be part of the package to land Crochet and Roberts- something like Mayer, Abreu, Rafaela, Wink and Dobbins for the two. The CWS might be the one team that could absorb a 5 for 2 trade of all 40 man roster guys, but more likely we'd give them a non 40 prospect or two. (Maybe Jh Garcia, Sandlin or Meidroth)
  16. A big part of choosing who to protect is not about liking one guy's chances over another's: it's about thinking who is more likely to be selected by another team. Did we think nobody would select Drohan or Ryan Fernandez, last winter, or did we just not care enough to protect them over someone else? In 2022, there was much debate over us not protecting Ward and Song. We also saw Politi getselected. 5 players taken in 2 years is rather high. Was our farm that strong and deep? Did we misjudge who might be selected, or did we know they were likely to be taken and still leave them to be taken?
  17. That very well might happen. I do always overproject how many we protect, and sometimes miss one they end up protecting. In a way, we already "protected" Fitts, Penrod and Guerrero by adding them to the 40 in September. I think it is a lock we protect or trade Dobbins. Fulmer is Rule 5, too and will be added to the 40. That could be it. Personally, I like Jh Garcia more than Gambrell, Sikes, Castro, Bastardo, Hickey and Liu. If we keep 3, I'm going with Jh G.
  18. I realize the importance of keeping as many promising pitchers on the 40 as possible, but I'm not cutting 5 to keep Jh garcia protected: I'm cutting the worst one of the 5. (I'm assuming Gasper will already be DFA'd or traded by Rule 5 time.) I think we will trade 2 of these 3 players who are on the 40, but I assume we get a ML'er in return. 2 for 1 trades are difficult in November, but if we pull one off or trade for a non 40 prospect, that could open up a slot for Jh Garcia. Abreu E Valdez or DHam
  19. I share your concern, but it was only 30 games at AA, and .706 is not all that bad. To me, it's more about viewing him more highly than my projected 38th to 40th guys on the 40. Now, if we plan to add 4-5 significant players to the 40, this winter, then maybe that aspect flips. I'd rather trade Wikelman, Mata, Horn or Shugart, or DFA one.
  20. I hope he was echoing what the higher ups are saying to him, such as "Now is the time," since the "foundation is set." We clearly need at least 2-3 significant pieces to be viewed as division champ competitors. If they truly meant what they are saying, the have to find those 2-3+ guys, and I'm not talking hopefuls or guys returning from major injury time off. I'm still not buying it. We heard similar things, lats winter. When I see serious actions taking place, then I will believe. For now, I'm assuming the sham continues on.
  21. I think we have to put all our eggs in the Campbell & Anthony baskets. Campbell is a RHB and Anthony has decent splits. Trade Abreu and DHam- both LHBs. I'd try Campbell or Mayer at 3B, move Devers to 1B, Casas to DH and payoff what you need to trade Yoshida somewhere- maybe for a pricey pitcher.
  22. I hope they don't. No matter how much the allow Brez to spend, it will have a limit, and anything spent on non-pitchers means less to be spent on pitching. I get how Bregman would improve 3B and 1B (Devers to 1B) defense, and that would help with run prevention, but an ace would do more, and that is what each of these guys would cost- ace like money.
  23. Chris Freakin' Frail! LOL.
  24. I was typing on my phone. Fat fingers. tge>the.
