    How was anybody to know Pom Pom was poised to decline, and "immediately?" He has MLB's 8th best ERA from 2014 until the July 2016 trade (250+ PAs) at 2.84. 8th in ERA- (73) 20th in WHIP (1.12) His 3.47 FIP, a stat you like, placed him 35th out of 131. Plus, he had a decent 2017 season with 173 IP and an ERA of 3.32 (3.80 FIP) Later, after the trade in 2019 until 2025, he had good numbers as a RP'er between IL stints.... 4th best ERA July '19-end of 2025 (120+ IP)

    Beeks for Nate. Beeks had a 1.9 bWAR for TBR in 5 years (missed 1 w injury.) He was #6 when traded. Espinal for Pearce. He had a couple 2.4 bWAR seasons for TOR. Espinal was #15 at his peak in the Sox system.

    I don't think I ever hoped someone would do poorly, just we'd "win a trade," but it does hurt to watch one do very well- after the fact. I never rooted for Sale to fail, but it was frustrating to see him pitch so well after years of next to nothing from him. So, if he sucked, nobody would care about the trade. Once could even say we won the trade due to using the money saved to sign _____.

    Yanks and Rays lost. Sox are 2 GB NYY (3 in loss column) 6 GB the Rays (7 losses) Still some hope....

    If AR just gives us meh, then of course, how the players we give up do is going to be how the final grade is measured. If AR does well, but not great, then that changes things somewhat. If he does very well, despite no ring, I think the return players shouldn't matter much, but if Eyanson wins a Cy Young then... If AR helps us win a ring, it doesn't matter what the others do, to me.

    I have joined the Sogard bandwagon, but it's hard to ignore this: Mead turns 26 next month and his 650 PA game avg this year is: .253 34 96 (.851 OPS) Sogard is one reason I've considered Mead at DH. He'd improve the 2B defense, as might Story over Mead. Romy, Seigler and Monasterio have some nice splits and could form a nice 2B platoon. Our 2B numbers have been a boost over past years, and without Mead or Story being a part of the success. Take away Mayer's numbers at 2B, and it's been pretty damn good. 2B OPS .888 Sogard (.764 overall at all positions) .760 Romy (.572) .747 Seigler (.737) .690 Monasterio (.696) (not on 2027 roster: Mayer .654 & IKF .554) That's a pretty nice 4 man mix. Add Story, and maybe Mead at DH makes some sense.

    To add to my last post on Durbin: I also project Bregman will end his career with a near .725 to .775 OPS and near GG defense. The salary differential is astounding.

    Durbin's defense alone should correct any tailspins. I think he'll be fine. If I had to guess, I think he'll be a career .725 to .775 batter with near GG defense.

    A lot of the playoff roster choices have to do with recent performance, and 18 days remain to the season, but Bello has struggled of late. Last 2 games: 9.82 ERA 5.50 last 5 games. Another consideration is who might be better than Bello. RP OPS Against in last...     I'm hopeful Durbin's recent 14 games OPS of .451 is just a glitch. .556 last 22 games. .598 last 26 games. .679 since AUG 1st (34 games)
