  1. I agree. I'm giving Bogey a pass for 2017, but the slack might run out in 2018.
  2. ...and, I'm not saying the Pedey incidents were not blown out of proportion either, but I wouldn't be surprised to hear, years later, that players did not view Pedey as a leader or good teammate (not that it really matters, if he keeps doing well).
  3. Has any 28-29 year old ever been in the minors at those ages and gone on to hit 25+ HRs in the bigs? Second question, how rare is it?
  4. My guess is he'd go to Oakland and hit 21 Hrs in 375 PAs (mostly on the road).
  5. Nunez is certainly no power hitter, but look here.... 2015-2017 ISO .147 Nunez .128 Bogey .127 Pedey .100 Holt SLG .457 HRam .456 JBJ .449 Moreland .443 Nunez .443 Morrison .430 Pedey .424 Bogey .359 Holt (only 15 MLB have more PAs and a lower SLG% than Holt)
  6. I've always agreed with you on Brentz. He's a long shot, at best. However, even if we sign JD, we have very little OF depth, especially, if Nunez is needed at 2B, 3B or SS. The 40 man roster has just 4 OF'ers right now: Betts, Beni, JBj and Brentz. Yes, Holt, Swihart, Lin and maybe a couple others can play in the OF, but we really only have 4 legitimate OF'ers. If we sign JD, we might DFA or trade Holt, Swihart, Jerez or Elias and keep Bryce. (Again, I'd be fine with trading or DFA'ing Brentz.)
  7. I've never said a bad word about Price on the Eck incident. I agree, it was blown out of proportion.
  8. I get your point. It's all conjecture on our part. Assume (notice I said assume) most players think Pedey is an ass for various reasons based on various happenings. I think those players might (notice, I said might) feel a bit miffed when seeing Pedey procliam to the world, "I'm the leader." I admit, I have no idea how players view Pedey or if it even matters. I'm not usually one to think clubhouse persona matters as much as on the field performance, and I have no issues with Pedey's play, despite the injuries.
  9. Yes, and we should also see more PAs from Devers than Pablo's 4 in 108 PAs and some of the guys you mentioned with Nunez. Also, say bye-bye to these guys.... Chris Young 7 in 276 Rajai Davis 0 in 38 PAs Steve Selsky 0 in 9 and likely see less PAs from... Sandy Leon 7 in 301 (more than Vaz but almost 100 point lower OPS) Pedey 7 in 463 On the pitching side, we lose... 90.1 Fister 4.88 43.2 Abad 3.30 41.1 Boyer 4.35 27.0 Reed 3.33 9.0 RRoss 7.00 8.1 Kendrick 12.96 That's over 210 IP, some good, but some not so good. Maybe less from ERod (4.19) & Hembree (3.63). Maybe more from Smith, Thornburg, Workman, Scott, Maddox and Johnson/Velazquez.
  10. I wouldn't be surprised, but the kid is young and still a bit raw. He may need a few stretches of adjustment and counter adjustment along the way.
  11. I understand us fans know very little about what goes on behind closed doors, but I do think Pedey's statements could have fueled the fire or feelings of discontent among players watching the guy everyone (or many) thinks is the face of the franchise taking credit for being something, maybe he's far from being.
  12. I was piggy-backing off what someone else posted. (I think he used that phrase- my bad, if he didn't.)
  13. We could sign JD, then watch HRam catch on fire and decide to trade JBJ mid season.
  14. Of course, but his recent 3 year 106 wRC+ pulls a lot more weight than his career number and ZIP projections to me.
  15. Yes, and his peers might be rolling their eyes at the phantom leader.
  16. Yes. Betts 2nd. Bogey or Beni up 1st. Maybe Nunez, if he hits like he did for us last year.
  17. I'm not so sure. If I was a player in a clubhouse of chaos, and the guy who took Machado's side vs own team was up in front of the media claiming he's the "leader", I'd feel pretty deflated and discombobulated. "Is this how things work in Boston," I'd think to myself.
  18. His answer revealed how he views himself, or how he wants the public to view him or know what he thinks about himself in the context of team leadership.
  19. Maybe 2 from Holt, Marrero, Brentz, Swihart or Johnson. All but Holt are out of options.
  20. I guess I'm going on the possible wrong assumption that if DD thinks Holt is worth $2M, so will some other GM. (I know I might be wrong, as I thought we overpaid for him.)
  21. I said I'd trade Johnson & Holt for a better pitcher. That pitcher would be our 6th starter, and hopefully, he'd do better than BJ/
  22. Yes, but it shows how Pedey thinks and how he views himself.
  23. We might need that $2M later. I'd try to trade Holt and out-of-options Johnson for a marginally better pitcher. I might then try to trade two out-of-options players, Hembree and Marrero, for a marginally better RP'er (lefty?) That takes acre of our roster crunch and slightly improves our pitching depth.
  24. Bogaerts said in his press conference today that the leaders on the team are Pedroia, Porcello, and Price, in that order. If Pedey is "the leader" of leaders, it's no wonder the team has "issues" to put behind them.
  25. You know me, I'd say Brentz. Nunez can play the OF as well as Bryce can, but with Nunez also able to play the IF, and Marco, Quiroz and Lin as IF depth, I'm guessing Marrero bites the dust. I wonder, if DM will be picked up b y someone. Maybe we can work out a trade- like a 2 for one deal that includes 2 guys without options.
