  1. Top Sox OBP .435 Betts (The man!) .389 Moreland (WOW!) .385 JDM (Steady Jay-dee) .377 Holt (61 PAs) .353 Bogey (Keep it going!) .350 HRam (Pushing for his vest) .344 Beni (Still batting 2nd) .306 Devers (Sophomore slump?) .264 Nunez (Closer to his career norm than his '17 Sox OBP) .256 JBJ (Those HBPs are saving him from an OBP Mendoza) .239 Vaz (Bring back 2017!) SLG .780 Betts the beast .619 Moreland the Marvelous .603 JMart being JMart .573 Bogey finally showing power .482 Holt showing the added beef .464 HRam doing it when it counts .439 Devers trying to re-adjust .418 Beni actually close to 2017 here .370 Nunez below hopes .254 JBJ in a funk .225 Vaz not much higher than his BA OPS 5 guys over .800 (not counting Holt) 2 between .740 and .765 We need Pedey to turn two black holes into one.
  2. Beni may have some "speed", but he's anot a very good runner, He has no instincts at all, except bad ones.
  3. Come on! Swihart playing is one thing, but what possible justification is there to bat him 6th? BTW,do you have Nunez playing 2B and 3B, or are you going with a 4 man OF?
  4. Couldn't you then say the opposing pitcher is 80%of our offense (or lack of offense)? So, each hitter is just 2% of the equation?
  5. As the late Lowell George once sang, "So I'll light another cigarette And try to remember to forget"
  6. I agree and always have felt JBJ's defense outweighs any gain we'd get on offense. I did think it was a good idea to give him a couple days off, and I hope he improves. His great defense cannot support a .400 OPS. There are other great defensive OF'ers kicking around that can hit .550 to .600.
  7. Only 8 hitters, too. I have a great 6 man line-up, but I'm keeping it a secret.
  8. Remember when the Sox were losing 3 of 4 to the A's, we were told we shouldn't be losing to bad teams like them?
  9. Thanks, harmony. It's been fun having our back-n-forths over the years and over multiple sites.
  10. Late in games, when you are down 1 or 2 with your 7-8-9 or 8-9 hitters leading off, it feels a lot better having a guy with power up first. Since our 8-9 slots have been pathetic so far this year, maybe Betts up first has hurt some, but I'm fine with him up first as long as we keep getting power numbers from our 3-4-5hitters (HRam, JMart & Moreland/Devers). I'd preferBogey up first and Betts 2nd, as studies show the number 2 hitter is most important, but flipping them works for me as well. I know the 3 slot is not supposed to be as important as the 4 and 5 slots, but I'd like to see JD slotted 3rd. 1. Bogey 2. Betts 3. JMart 4. HRam 5. Beni If the 3 slot is really the 5th or 6th most important slot, then maybe HRam there is just right. 1. Bogey 2. Betts 3. HRam 4. JMart 5. Moreland or Beni vs R/Pedey vs L In short, Bogey deserves to take Beni's top 2 slot.
  11. JBJ is maybe my favorite player, despite his struggles at the plate. That being said, Moreland's bat has been very helpful thus far.
  12. On a lighter note, I was born in '59 and turned 59 today. The big 6-0 seems frightening to me, in some ways. I guess 70 is the new 50, or do only old guys say that?
  13. The return of Pedey will not only help out our weak IF defense, it should strengthen our bench and give Nunez some rest he may need to try and get back to 2017 form. We may even DL Nunez to allow Swihart another 10 days to try and show something (hard to do when he never plays). Pedey will also halp lengthen our line-up and turn the bottom 3 black-hole slots to 2. 1. Betts RF 2. Beni CF 3. HRam DH 4. JD LF 5. Bogey SS 6. Moreland 1B 7. Pedey 2B 8. Devers 3B 9. Vaz-Leon C (Actually, with JBJ benched, only 1 black hole.)
  14. I'm not so sure the MVP has been chosen based on WAR or mostly because of WAR. It really shouldn't be a surprise that the WAR leader is judged to be the MVP almost all the time. It could have happened, even if the WAR numbers were somehow kept sectret until after the voting took place. While hitting in the clutch and high leverage situations should be considered, I actually think it has been considered. Voters remember who got a lot of "big hits" when needed most and that is part of being the most valuable. Altuve got 27 first place votes to Judge's 2. Jose Ramirez got 1. Altuve's bWAR was 8.3 to 8.1 over Judge, suggesting the vote could have been closer. The fWAR had Judge ahead 8.2 to 7.6. I like WAR a lot, but it is not perfect. I do think Altuve should have won the MVP.
  15. Yes, and the fact that Cora loves to use his bench and has barely used Swihart speaks volumes.
  16. To me, Betts, JD and Bogey are our best 3 hitters. I don't care, if they are all righties; they should bat 1-2-3 in some way. Beni has not earned a top 4 slot. Small or large sample size. His .350 career OBP is very good, but Bogey has come on strong and still has a career .340 OBP despite some bad stretches that were likely injury-related.
  17. My bad. Sorry, Max.
  18. We have 5 guys over .355- six, if you count Holt.
  19. I thought he meant 29th worst catcher offense. Hasn't he been ranting about that for weeks? or, was that Nay-Sayer Natick?
  20. What about the offensive sense of the word? (Actually, the bat that would replace JBJ would be Moreland's, and JMart's glove would replace JBJ's.)
  21. I was trying to show three things: 1) We have seven players in the top 150 in SLG% on our team. (150/30 teams would give you 5 per team. We have been better, despite our putrid slugging 2017 season.) 2) Some players we passed on, like Moose, have been top sluggers. 3) JMart is pretty damn awesome. I included top OBP players, because I can. (nah-nah) I think OBP is more important than SLG, and we have 7 in the top 130. I did not intend to make a point about JBJ being in these top lists, but it apparently ticked off those who tend to look more closely at the what have you done lately numbers.
  22. We got... 2017: Addison Reed for Stephen Nogosek, Gerson Bautista and Jamie Callahan. 2016: Brad Ziegler for Jose Almonte and Luis Alejandro Basabe I agree, we have a lot of pen arms to go through before deciding we need to trade for one. Kimbrel, Smith, Kelly and a healthy Thornburg all look like 8th and 9th inning guys. Velazquez, Barnes, Hembree may work out as 5-7 inning guys, but if not, we still could try any of these guys before making a trade: Johnson (may be out of chances real soon) Wright (a real wild card) Poyner (has looked good) Maddox (looked good last year) Scott Workman Buttrey That's 14 guys for 7 slots. Also, maybe Beeks or Walden.
  23. Oh, and for those all gah-gah over the Yankees offense and all freaking out about all our black holes at the bottom of our order, consider this: PAs Yankee 2018 OPS 165 Gardner .627 (3rd most PAs on team!) 114 Walker .539 (7th most PAs) 103 A Hicks .687 (8th most) Plus, #6 Andujar is at .745 and#5 Sanchez is at .769. None of our top 5 PA guys are below .739, and our #6 guy, Nunez, could be replaced soon by Pedey. 141 Nunez .637 (#6) 125 JBJ .528 (#7 Benched) 106 Vaz .463 (#8) Our #1 guy, Beni is at .740 and our #3 guy, Devers is at .739. Devers has been moved down in the line-up, and Beni may be soon. Betts (1.201) and Bogey (.933) missed some time and should move up in PA rankings. JDM is #2 in PAs and is at 1.004. We may see our #10 guy, Moreland at 1.009, become a top 9 PA guy soon
  24. I'd have moved Beni down a while ago. I've always felt like Bogey is a natural 2 hitter- maybe lead-off, but Cora seems set on Betts up first. Maybe watching Springer in Houston has locked some philosophies in his mind. With this in mind, maybe Cora could try this for a few games: 1) Betts 2) Bogey 3) JDM 4) Moreland (at least for now) 5) HRam 6) Beni 7) Devers 8) Nunez-Pedey 9) Vaz-Leon
  25. We have a few million to spend and still stay under the $40M penalty line. If we can get to the trade deadline, we only pay a pro-rated share of about 30-33% of an aquired player's salary. We should be able to pick up a very good RP'er or two good ones, if needed. By then, we should know more about Thornburg & Smith, Barnes & Noble (Hembree), Wright, Velazquez & Johnson and guys like Poyner, Workman, Scott, Maddox & Buttrey.
