  1. Maybe some teams don't value catcher defense as much as we do, or their catchers are so weak, they'll try anything. We won't get much, if anything, in trade, but it's probably best to give Swi a shot elsewhere. I had expected us to PH for our catchers more often- perhaps even twice in one game by utilizing Swi's 3rd catcher role. The fact that we have not hints that management is terrified of using Swi behind the plate at all.
  2. We didn't "tank", but our weak finish did net us Beni one year.
  3. Oh! The hypocrisy!
  4. I think we need to trust that judgement. If he was even close to MLB quality, he'd be playing in mop-up situations (although we haven't had many of those).
  5. Or, it could be saying that there are an incredibly high amount of excellent defensive CF'ers in MLB today. JBJ could be a great defender but still be 15th best.
  6. I've said it all along, "They should test the locker room drinking fountain at Yankees Stadium."
  7. Phantom DL or what? Maybe it's for real. I hope he gets better... all the way better.
  8. Got that right, Max. However, it's just a 3 game series, so if we struggle, it doesn't mean all that much.
  9. Every year, somebody surprises to the good, and somebody surprises to the bad. Velazquez could earn a key role on this team and squeeze out somebody not doing too well. We have 3-4 guys who have gotten off to a rough start, but it's early yet, and that should be expected. JD & Betts may not end up over 1.000, but over .900 is good enough, if the supporting cast does it's job. To me, it comes down to our starting pitching and set-up pen guys. I like that we have Kelly, Smith and Thornburg line-up to win the spot below Kimbrel and others shooting for the 6th/7th inning roles. With so many to choose from, I think we'll be okay there. I really think that this is our "best chance" year within the 4-5 year window DD created.
  10. Betts & JD both over 1.000 in OPS. These guys are carrying us, but we have gotten nice support by varying players all year.
  11. He's looked good the last couple games. I guess that means he's great. BTW, I never meant to imply I know more than Cora, and when I say I want Bogey 1 or 2, it's not meant to put Beni down. I just like what I'm seeing from Bogey more this year... so far.
  12. Another 10+ K game for our staff. Velazquez is a savior. Good to see JBJ get on base twice and steal a base. Kelly has stepped it up this year. JD & Betts are gods. Keep on winning, boys!
  13. Thanks for pointing that out. It looks like JBJ could really use some time to work out his issues without hurting the big club. Sending JBJ down could also prolong the decision on Swihart.
  14. Some Paw Sox numbers... OPS .696 Castillo .648 Tavarez .839 Mike Olt .718 Sam Travis .686 Butler AA 1.001 Sturgeon 1.016 Quiroz (Nobody else has 50+ PAs and an OPS above .796.) All levels Pitchers OPS Against (30+ IP) .538 K Crawford .541 J Beeks .583 Shawaryn .604 D Reyes .661 D Jimenez .705 R Raudes .705 J Diaz .741 Cuevas .760 J Haley .780 Shepherd ...others .713 B Mata 21 IP .818 Scherf 22 IP .832 Houck .833 Thompson
  15. To change subjects, gotta like these numbers... Kelly K/9 8.1 in 2017> 10.8 in 2018 BB/9 4.2 in 2017> 3.4 in 2018 K/BB 1.93 to 3.14
  16. Devers isn't going anywhere. Moreland's defense at 1B partially offsets the step down in OF defense with JD in LF and Beni in CF, and the way Moreland is hitting now, it's a no-brainer. We aren't DF'ing JBJ. I could see us trying to trade 2 or 3 of the out-of-options bubble guys, but I'm not expecting anything but long shot prospects in return. Swihart Johnson Hembree (Maybe Wright)
  17. GMs don't totally judge players on what they did the last week, month or even year.
  18. Swihart is the easiest choice, but we won't DFA or Trade Swihart when bringing up a pitcher. He'll go when Pedey returns. The hard one will be Hembree traded/DFA'd or sending down Barnes or Velzquez. Some might argue trading/DFA'ing Johnson or sending down Barnes/Velazquez is just as difficult.
  19. Players rehab all the time while on the DL. It might be strange if he begins rehabbing day 1.
  20. It's not about him accepting or not. It's about another team snagging him up without having to trade anything for him.
  21. I don't believe it. i was just extending your opinion to its logical conclusion.
  22. You mean 25 man roster not 40. Are we sure Wright will be called up and not given an extended rehab assignment? If so, it's crunch time. I'd say Johnson gets a phantom DL or is traded/DFA'd. That makes room for Wright. To make room for Thornburg, it would mean trading Hembree or sending Barnes or Velazquez to AAA. I don't really like any of those options, but I usually like to keep depth. Hembree looks bad, now, but he's been good in the past. Pedey's return looks easy: either DL Nunez or JBJ or trade Swihart.
  23. Then our pitchers are at 100% of the mercy of our opposing hitters.
