  1. Cashman did do a lot to address the SP'er situation, and it seemed like the Yankee fans who frequent our board liked the starters until the playoffs came along. He traded for Gray last summer. He traded for Happ and Lynn this summer. Yes, he needs to think higher level this winter.
  2. Anybody think it might just be a moderate to steep hill?
  3. I think this post season may tell us a lot. He's probably best used as a 170-180 IP starter, but it's hard to pull a guy early when he's doing so well.
  4. Sometimes, I think they just act like they're in on some players just to drive up the price.
  5. Even the clowns who threatened his life after the play?
  6. If Pedro got out of that inning, nobody would be screaming the choice was "nuts." Pedro was our best pitcher by far. An 80% Pedro was still our best. I'm not saying anyone who wanted him yanked is wrong, but to me, Little's choice had a lot of merit. it wasn't a 100% call, except through hindsight.
  7. It appears you are only looking at Tito's successes, which is fine. I know winning rings is the crown achievement for anyone, and if Cora never wins one, I'll probbaly adjust my opinion, but as of right now, he's the best Sox manager I have ever seen. He's loyal to the players but not to a fault. BTW, I never said or implied success is linear. I expected many of our declining prime players to improve, no matter who was managing.
  8. He's a class act. He didn't deserve the grief he got. He never asked or insisted on being on the field for the final inning. ' I'm sure he would have enjoyed hobbling out onto the field from the dugout in celebration just as much as from 1B.
  9. I think most managers would have won more than 100 games with the 2018 Yankees. I'd give him a D or D- for the season and an F for the playoffs.
  10. I do think the Astros have a better rotation, on paper, but winning game 1 is huge. Sale going in game 5 is also very helpful. There are no guarantees, but winning game 1 & 5 are key games to win. That would leav us needing to win just 2 of the remaining 5 games vs "better starters". That seems doable. I'm confident we can and will win, but I'm not kidding myself. The Astros are solid. They feild well, hit well and pitch very well, but so do we.
  11. Yes, Eovaldi would go game 7 but not on long rest.
  12. I hope they get all three. It will set them up for a huge cliff. It will make us beating them all the more sweeter. Big contracts fail closer to 75% of the time than 50%.
  13. We might see Sale out of the pen in a game 7. That could be a deciding factor. I like your post.
  14. That's way too generous.
  15. Here's a look at the Astros pen from 2017 to 2018 listed in order of most relief innings in 2017) WHIP 0.942 Devenski (81 IP)> 1.169 (45) 1.037 K Giles (62)>1.272 (31) 1.344 Gregerson (61)>>>McHugh> 0.912 (72) 1.318 J Hoyt (49)>>>Rondon> 1.322 (59) 1.563 M Feliz (48)>>>J Smith> 1.007 (46) 0.971 W Harris (45)> 1.094 (57) 1.393 T Sipp (37)> 1.034 (39) 1.555 F Martes (37)>>> Pressley .0600 (23) 0.862 Musgrove (31)>>> Osuna 0.882 (23) 1.033 Peacock (20)>>>F Valdez 0.947 (13)
  16. They have an impressive team, and adding Cole (plus Verlander for a full season) has made a big difference. Also, their pen improved. Here's a 2017>2018 starting pitcher comp... (Listed in order of most GS'd in 2017) 5.22 Fiers>> COLE>>2.52 (32 GS/ 200 IP) 3.62 Morton> 3.13 (30 GS/167 IP) 2.90 Keuchel > 3.74 (34 GS/205 IP) 4.25 McCullers> 3.86 (22 GS/ 128 IP) 3.00 Peacock> 1 GS 4.77 Musgrove >>>VALDEZ> 2.19 3.55 McHugh 6.52 Paulino 1.06 Verlander > 2.52 (34 GS/214 IP) Notice how they have 4 starters with 30+ GS'd and 3 with 200+ IP. Maybe they will tire, like ours did last year.
  17. I think the Dodgers go large on Machado and Kershaw.
  18. I wouldn't swap Cora for anyone.
  19. Maybe they could stand off to the side a little bit and see check swings better. They'd have to wear extra protection for foul balls coming their way.
  20. I'm okay with Price for game 2. Eovaldi is much better with 2 or more extra days rest.
  21. Maybe some Cora haters would rather have this guy next year.
  22. It's not bad, but it's a step down from Kimbrel's norm. I'm fine with Kimbrel. I just like Sale better. Again, I have no issues with Cora. He's been a godsend.
  23. How are real umps more practical than robo umps when calling balls and strikes? No matter how much they improve, they'll never be consistent or perfect. Why feel badly for umps, anyways, they won't lose their jobs, if all we do is take away balls and strikes.
  24. It would be nice to have that budget space for 2019 as well, but it's nice to see the end getting nearer.
