    The condescending ******** has flowed both ways, and not just on this issue. I've gone back and read some of my old posts and can certainly see why some people are put off by my statements or implications. I will say, I do not mean making people feel put-down or inferior intellectually. We have some very smart posters on this board, and no one side has more than the other. In my personal life, I am VERY "old school" in many ways, and I don't consider myself just a stat geek. Many posters here are multidimensional. Things do get personal at times here, but such is life.

    JBJ is my favorite player, but I'd be fine with replacing him with a defensive CF'er who can hit better than him. The new guy doesn't even have to be as great as JBJ on defense: he just has to be real good on D for me to like him. How do we find this guy? Our budget is tight. Our OF on the farm is far away. We can't trade anyone without opening a hole or weakening our future even more. Yes, his OPS sucks, right now, but I have faith he'll get back around .700 and maybe higher. If he stays under .500 or maybe even .550 for too much longer, we'll replace him. No great D sustains .450.

    My eyes agreed with the metrics on Jeter. He had the worst range at a position where range in super important. Yes, he made the plays hit right to him. Whhop-dee-freakin-doo!

    Those two cases gave metrics a bad name, and it still is a mystery how they both ended up with numbers that defied the eyes. I've never heard a plausible reason for why the came out looking so much better than we all know they were. I can understand that maybe they weren't as bad as the eyes showed they were, but the metrics seemed way off for both of them.

    You think dropping .067 would turn a 2.8 WAR to 0.0 or worse? (Note: I also think JBJ's defense is under represented in WAR, but that's just my opinion.)

    I still think he can hit between .550 and .650 and still be a plus. I don't think .450 is sustainable.

    May 16, 2018: Beni's OPS was .792. This year's fat OPS is ahead of last year's skinny one. JBJ's OPS was .520 and dropped to .502 on May 19th before rebounding by hitting .791 the rest of the way (not counting his explsive post season). Vaz was at .435 (worse than JBJ now). Leon as at .454. Nunez was at .610 Bogey was at .875. Holt was at .887 (.449 in 2017). JD M was at 1.024. Betts was at 1.166. As ICP would say, Chavis was just a nut stain in his mamma's drawers.

    I'd like JD up 4th, but I have no issues with Cora's line-ups or anything else. I still think he's the best ever!

    LOL! What gets me the most is this: Cora was a gutsy player in the traditional sense. I loved his style of play as a player. Old school, right? Now, fast forward with him as a coach fully embracing the analytic nuances of the game. To me, he is proving it doesn't have to be one or the other, or one vs the other: you can have it both ways.
