  1. Some called it a "panic move". I was glad then and still think it was a great move (same with Devers).
  2. At the start of the year, I mentioned we may need tom monitor Beni's numbers vs lefties, and if he didn't improve maybe move him down in the line-up or consider platooning him. While a .694 OPS (vs LHPs) is not optimal for a hitter batting second, it is an improvement over his .622 OPS vs LHPs last year and .429 in a tiny sample from 2016. I think he'll be fine against lefties going forward as he learns to adjust.
  3. Yes. Loose but also highly focused and determined.
  4. 1) It wasn't an either-or. 2) You do what you did during the season that worked. 3) Part of the reason Muncy and Hernandez had great OPS numbers is because they were platooned and have big split disparities.
  5. It's not fun time, until we win 4 games.
  6. No, you listen up, DUMBO! There's no bigger and more positive fan on this site than me. BTW, Bill Buckner was a great player and a great Sox player. Stop being so negative about him. That's some "s***** support" right there for a guy who got us to the WS.
  7. I have posted positively about Devers way more than on his defensive issues. I guess maybe you only remember some, or your "always" statement was hyperbole.
  8. I don't think the series will come down to one play, either. I was responding to a post where the writer asked how many runs have his errors lead to, and I brought up the concern that it might take just one to make a lasting memory. I never said I thought it would happen. I know the chances are remote, but that doesn't mean the discussion is off limits. The chance Nunez hit that homer was remote, too.
  9. He had an .806 OPS this year in 402 ABs. He's got 32 ABs this post season.
  10. No way JD sits, unless he's in a cast. We'd be losing 2 key members of this team forever. 1) JD would kill Cora. 2) JD would be thrown in jail for a long time.
  11. Selective listening is what you "always do".
  12. I wasn't the one who brought up the subject of how many of his errors lead to runs scored. I'm sorry for voicing a concern I've had all year and even before the season started. I didn't realize it would stir up the pot and make people think I'm not a Devers' supporter. I'm a huge Devers fan and have been since he was in his first season in the minors. I supported his call-up, while many wanted him to stay on the farm to improve his defense or protect a perceived fragile ego, in case he failed out of the gate. I'm not the only one who stops breathing every time a ball is hit to 3B in a close game. I'm thankful he is our 3Bman, and I have always felt like his bat will significantly outweigh any issues he has on defense-- by a long shot. Sometimes, I feel like even a slight criticism gets taken out of context or blown into a bigger issue than intended.(I am guilty of doing this myself to others, at times.)
  13. I thought the same thing, when it happened. Plus, if those bases get wet, it's treacherous.
  14. Stick him in deep RF and let Mookie play a "shallow RF" or "deep 2B". That's a nice compromise.
  15. Let's hope we never have to discuss a "Buckner type moment" with Rafael.
  16. ...and you're playing with fire, if you have a 3Bman making 30 errors or non-error plays others make easily that happen to never lead to any meaningful runs scored against you. We all know Devers is young and has a lot of time to grow and learn. My worry was that his learning curve might cost us at a very important moment during the championship run I figured we'd be right in the thick of. I do think Devers has the right attitude and demeanor to be able handled a bad incident in a high leverage situation. Plus, he's done enough good with his bat during clutch times that it would be hard for anyone to hold a big error against him, but then again, look at poor Buckner. I'm fine with giving Devers more time to develop at 3B. I hope he can become a plus there. He has good range and quickness. Footwork and arm accuracy may be the easiest areas to improve on. I'm a 100% believer in his bat becoming MVP level at some point. The kid flat out has the hitting instincts and abilities needed to be a great one. I've been hard on his defense, but I'm still a big fan of his.
  17. ...and Castillo's money doesn't even count.
  18. Tape it heavily and just go with 4 OF'ers.
  19. That was when our pen was doing very well, and injuries and struggles hit our rotation. DD did a fantastic job getting this guy for Beeks. I'm hopeful he can do a similar deal next July, if needed.
  20. I do, but at least now it's not a noticeable, audible gasp.
  21. Pretty amazing how the Dodgers were able to keep Jansen and Turner and still get below the tax limit. They shed a lot of dead money.
  22. It helped that George was taking in a lot of money in gate, concessions and memorabilia. He didn't need to spend much of his own money on FAs. I've always felt the gate receipts should be split 50-50 with the visiting team. It would give every team an incentive to be good, so fans will want to watch them in away parks, too. I'm not sure about splitting TV money, but it seems strange that people watch two teams on TV, but only one team gets paid for it. (I know away teams televise the games, too.)
  23. Let's stay undefeated on the road!
  24. Yes, our balance allows us to win in many different ways. Beni's catch. JBJ's HR (and Nunez's, too) Great catching. Walks. Stolen bases. Bloop singles and rocket shot doubles. Starters throwing smoke. Starters throwing change-ups and nasty breaking stuff. Our pen doing what it takes. Great managing and coaching.
