He did have a couple years where he was just really bad. The rest he was "really, really bad."
It's not just all the numbers that show it, it was just about every year.

One good year.
Two not real bad years.
The rest were horrible.
From 2005-2007 was probably the worst 3 year UZR/150 of any SS with 3000+ innings.
His DRS numbers are strikingly awful.

Career -152 DRS!!! That is shocking!
Career UZR.150: -6.2
Inside Edge only captured 2012-2014, and here's what they had:
Jeter made only...
43% of all "even plays (40-60%)
71% of all likely plays (60-90%)
2.7% of unlikely plays (10-40%)
51 SSs with 3000+ innings from 2003-2014:
Jeter ranks ...
44th in UZR/150
51st in UZR/150 at -152 (2nd worst is Michael Young at -82. Jeter is almost twice as bad as the second worst guy!)
Is there any shred of evidence that shows he was not bad?
Yes, but maybe not at the same rate, but my point was that earning $25M in 2 years does not mean you get to invest the whole $25M.
I get how interest compounds, even if $15M not $25M, but there are advantages to taking a fixed annuity.
2 championships in NCAA (SF went 57-1 in his last 2 years there), a Gold Medal (championship) and 11 in 13 NBA years. That's 14 championships & Gold medals in 15 years!
That will never be repeated in any major team sport.
I get that, but my point is that JH has shown he seeks ways to avoid paying taxes as all billionaires do.
At worst, we try to restructure his deal to lessen the tax hit and give Pedey his money spread out. If it doesn't work, fine. We tried.
I doubt we get fines for trying to restructure.
I think Lynn was a great defender while with the Sox. maybe I was a little wrong, and he was just good. I don't think dWAR was as good then as it is now.
Also, dWAR and UZR/150 are not supposed to be used in small sample sizes, so I don't use them-- like with JBJ's 2019 numbers.
I'm not "having it both ways."
Eyes can be deceiving, but not by that much, but I'll say it again, dWAR has Lynn as a +2.3 while with Boston- the time we all saw him play and remember him as being damn good on defense.
JH did force a rule change due to the Rusney Castillo fiasco.
Billionaires often look for ways to circumvent the rules without breaking rules or by getting away with breaking them.
The organization got caught cheating with International FAs.
The organization has done "wink-wink" deals with players like AGon.
It's not like there is no history of JH trying to save on paying taxes. Let's not pretend we have been squeaky clean.
Besides, my point is, we may try to do it. It may work- it may not, but first Pedey has to be on board with the idea.
My point is not that I am sure it will work. It may be a long shot. it may be impossible. I don't think it is a "scumbag" move as these taxes only go towards to fattening cheap owner's pockets anyways.
How about this, then. Say Pedey agrees to restructure his contract from 2 years remaining at $25M combined to $30M over the next 30 years as a player/coach? The union might complain, but he's not taking a pay cut.
