  1. Maybe it's the big fat porkchop fastballs he threw that led to HRs.
  2. I think the title of the thread might give it away.
  3. I totally agree, although one could argue Nomar hit for better BA. (.357 and .372 in two seasons and .313 overall/ .323 with BOS)
  4. I get that, but 9.38 in A Ball is not something I'd consider all that impressive. I'm sure they liked what they saw, but I'm thinking he's expendable, now.
  5. Agreed. I doubt Bloom has the same view of Gorkys as DD did.
  6. In single A ball. It fell to 3.13 in AA last year.
  7. No, except to keep JD at DH, maybe.
  8. He had a damned good 1986 season and a few more afterwards, but he was not really ever an ace or "second ace" with Boston. I guess one could argue Lackey was no "second ace" either, but leading up to those WS years, here's what the two had done: ERA/ IP/YR Hurst: 4.51/229/ '85 3.92/218/ '84 4.09/211/ '83 5.77/117/ '82 (Nobody thought of him as ace material going into 1986.) Lackey before acquiring him 3.83/176 '09 3.75/163 '08 3.01/224 '07 (led AL in ERA) 3.56/218 '06 3.44/209 '04 Lackey w/BOS before 2013: DNP '12 6.41/160 '11 4.40/215 '10
  9. I'd DFA Kelley over Weber. I don't know what they saw in Reyes, last year, but DFA'ing him would not make me blink.
  10. It also helps to have solid #3s and 4's, but the one-two punch has been the major factor in rings or no rings for the Sox. That's one reason I'm hardly ever for upgrading the rotation at the 4 or 5 slot. Upgrade at the 1 or 2 and everyone else gets knocked down one slot.
  11. I doubt JBJ is back, so it might be JD vs Gorkys/Lin/cheap FA? in the OF or JD vs Chavis/Travis/Dalbec/Ockimey at 1B.
  12. Okay. I read 8am somewhere.
  13. They can DFA (Kelley, Reyes, Brewer, Shawaryn, Weber) or non tender (JBJ, Leon or Hembree) or trade someone.
  14. With so many roster slots, why risk it? I'd rather cut anyone of 3-5 players (or trade JBJ).
  15. Then, it wasn't until we added a "second ace" in Schilling that we took the final step. 1967- only Lonborg 1975- only Tiant 1986- only Clemens 2004- Pedro & Schilling 2007- Schilling & Beckett 2013- Lester & Lackey 2018- Sale & Price
  16. I still watched every pitch of every Sox game this year, again, and although I didn't enjoy 2019 and the 3 last place seasons not too long ago, I like to see championships every few years. It sucks when we are out of it early, and in 2019 I felt we were out of it much earlier than just about anyone else, but I still watched and enjoyed the offense. As long as I think there is a bright future ahead, I can tolerate bad seasons. To me, what hurt most about 2019, beyond having high hopes to start the year, was the fact that we sucked and our future looked bleak. With Bloom on board, I feel better about the future.
  17. The deadline was 8 am. Why no word, yet?
  18. I think it should just be 5-6 games- total on the field.
  19. If Cora was involved, more than just knowing about it, I think he should be suspended for a few games, despite it seemingly hurting one of the teams that may have been hurt by the cheating.
  20. Remember when AGon played RF? Now, that was funny!
  21. Careful, they are watching...
  22. This article projects the Sox protect Dalbec, Chatham, Bazardo, Wilson and Aybar (Ockimey is listed as possible.) https://www.overthemonster.com/2019/11/19/20971637/boston-red-sox-prospects-rule-5-draft-protection My guess is we are active drafting players from other teams... like SD.
  23. I'm not sure being traded for ARod is an insult, but your point is well-taken. Rumor had it that Nomar lied about his spring injury, and the Sox did not call him on it, which in my mind, more than returned the favor. What I remember most was thinking we needed SS defense to have any chance at a ring in 2004. When I heard we got OCab, I was thrilled. If we hurt Nomar's feelings, so be it. He went downhill faster than just about any star I've ever seen. We got rid of him just in time, and had we never tried to trade him, he'd have still fell off a cliff. Thanks, Theo!
  24. I remember 1974, but the other years I listed the team had more wins.
