  1. He never walked anybody (Hyperbole alert). That 2013 season say these shockingly great numbers: 265 PAs against 9 BB (2 intentional) 1 HBP 5 HR .130 BA against .163 OBP .237 SLG .400 OPS Against (which is less than JBJ's current OPS!) 101 Ks (12.2 per 9 IP) Even Mo never had a season like this. His lowest WHIP in a season was 0.665 in 2008 (Career 1.000) His best K/BB rate was 12.83 his rookie year. He never got above 7.5 again (4.10 career)
  2. Yes, I thought he was out of them. I guess that would solve the issue, if true.
  3. Largest Swings in Positional Sox OPS from 2018 to 2019 +.272 Catcher +.107 3B -.017 SS -.018 LF -.053 2B -.082 1B -.179 RF -.217 DH -.286 CF
  4. Well, one could consider Chavis part of the bench, and he has helped enormously. True, he's a starter now, but I still count him as a bench guy who won the job by playing well. Nunez and pearce have been putrid. Leon is actually doing very well. Even his hitting has been 100 points higher than last year.
  5. We likely will not keep Chavis, Pedey, Holt & Nunez on the 25 man roster. Only Chavis has options, but he's not being demoted. Pedey will not be DFA'd or traded. It will be Nunez vs Holt, unless e dump Pearce to keep all 4. Holt may be the one "sacrificed" to keep Pedey. As of right now, I'd make it Nunez vs Pearce with Pearce being the one. Chavis and Holt can play 1B.
  6. Yes, as of right now, I'd send Brewer down over Weber. As much as I dislike Thornburg's chances at redemption, I don't think I'd DFA him to keep Weber on the 25. I would to keep Holt, Nunez, Pierce or Pedey
  7. Best Sox WHIP as a RP'er since 1970 with 40+ IP .57 Uehara ('13) .68 Kimbrel ('17) .77 Papelbon ('07) .78 Papelbon ('06) .79 Jeff Gray ('91) .90 A Miller ('14) .92 Uehara ('14) .92 Uehara ('15) .93 Papelbon ('11) .94 Foulke ('04) .95 Papelbon ('08) .95 Tazawa ('12) .96 Uehara ('16) .96 D Bard ('11) .97 Okajima ('07) .99 Atchison ('12) .99 Kimbrel ('18) 1.00 DLowe, Schiraldi, Aceves, DBard 1.01 Gordon, B Kim 1.02 Delcarmern 1.03 Timlin 1.06 R Garces 1.07 Urbina 1.08 Burgmeier
  8. That was certainly a better year than Foulke's 2004 ring year. I'm fine with this.... (Since 1970) 1. Uehara 2. Kimbrel 3. Gordon 4. Foulke (At least for best season as a closer.)
  9. No way. I was just pointing out something surprising about Fitzy. I would move Dalbec to AAA, because I think he needs to face more veteran pitchers. Duran should probably be moved up at some point, if only to challenge him with better pitching. I trust Sox management to move these guys when they are ready.
  10. Yes, I forgot him! His best season: 1.008 WHIP and 3.12 K/BB in 1998. It was a one year bonanza as our closer. 73 appearances and 79.1 IP helps his case. Honorable mention.
  11. 2015? His best season was just last year (.774 OPS in 367 PAs). He was .727 in 2015 in 454 PAs. He's .701 career and is almost identical vs LHPs and RHPs. He can play 1B and better OF than Nunez and his gimpy knee. Nunez has a .701 OPS with the Sox and has gotten worse. His knee is toast. Yes, Pearce has higher upside, offensively, but I'm not so sure Nunez does.
  12. He was the best closer I've ever seen on the Sox. Kimbrel, Papelbon and that one year from Foulke were close. That .565 WHIP and 11.2 K/BB in 2013 were spectacular. His 0.818 career WHIP with the Sox was amazing (11.6 K/BB) with Sox only.... Kimbrel: 0.903/ 4.07 K/BB (Best season: 0.681 in 2017) Papelbon 1.018/ 4.43 K/BB (Best season: 0.771 in 2007)
  13. I have so little faith in Brewer and Thornburg that I'd probably keep Weber on the big club for a few more shots at showing he's better. I'd keep Holt over Nunez and Pearce.
  14. Koji Retires in Japanese League.
  15. Farm OPS Leaders: 1.024 Duran (13 SB/2 CS and batting .409) .991 Ockimey (Can it last? 11 HR and 24 RBI in 112 ABs) .955 Holt (He'll be back soon.) .954 Chavis (Doing about the same in MLB) .937 A Marrero (With Greenville) .876 Dalbec (When does he move to AAA?) .864 Granberg (Greenville) .844 Fitzgerald (Almost leads the Sox minors in RBIs with 29, but he has NO HRS!) .806 Casas (Greenville) ERA Leaders (29+ IP) 0.92 Bazardo (Salem) 1.09 R Gomez (Green.) 2.15 B Mata (Salem) 2.72 Crawford (Salem) 2.81 K Hart (Port.) 2.91 Shawaryn (Paw) 2.91 T Ward (Green)
  16. Those were the easy choices. It's gets a bit harder when the next guys are ready.... Pedroia (Go to 12 pitchers: Weber or Brewer to AAA or DFA/trade Thornburg) Holt (Must decide who to keep- Nunez, Holt or Pearce) Johnson (Weber or Brewer to AAA or DFA/trade Thornburg) Eovaldi (Weber or Brewer to AAA or DFA/trade Thornburg) Final 100% healthy 25 man roster: SP (6): Sale, Price, Porcello, Eovaldi, ERod, Johnson RP (6): Barnes, Workman, Brazier, Walden, Hembree, Velazquez C (2): Vaz & Leon 1B (1): Moreland 2B (1): Chavis 3B (1): Devers SS (1): Bogaerts LF (1): Benintendi CF (1): JBJ RF (1): Betts DH/OF (1): JD Bench (3): Holt and 2 from: Nunez, Pedey or Pearce. A look at the final 3 slots: Holt: He can play 1B, as can Chavis, and he can play a decent OF, so I slot him ahead of Pearce & Nunez. Nunez: He needs to start hitting, or he may be the odd man out, but he's more reliable than Pedey (which isn't saying much). He can also play a better OF than Pearce, when healthy. Pedey: He will not be DFA'd. He may retire, if it comes down to him not being able to play more than 2 times a week. I think he stays over Pearce, if he can show he can play 3+ times a week, if needed. Pearce: If he doesn't start hitting, I think he'll be the odd man out. Even if he does hit, we may keep Holt, Nunez & Pedey over him. Tough call. (DFA/Traded: Thornburg)
  17. If Leon only catches Sale and nobody else, he'll be worth keeping around. 2019 CERA with Sale: 2.61 w Leon 6.39 w Vaz 2018 was closer: 2.04 w Leon 2.27 w Vaz 2017 (Vaz caught 0nly 2 games) 2.63 w Leon 13.50 w Vaz Career: 2.44 w Leon (350 inn) 4.37 w Vaz (78 Inn)
  18. With Keuchel still unsigned, who knows what the market will be next winter for someone like Porcello. I'd love to have him back, but I think the price and years will both be too high.
  19. Nice win yesterday. Sale was not at his best, but we squeaked enough runs across to get the W.
  20. He's looked horrible for over 6 weeks. I'm not sure how much longer Cora & Co. will give him.
  21. I've said the same, myself. It was Leon vs Swihart, and to me that choice was always clearly Leon. It is interesting how Sale walked so many people today with Vaz. Small sample size, but I'll be glad when Leon is back behind the plate for Sale's next start.
  22. If they weren't blown saves, they might not be bad, and you can blow a save with an unearned run as well.
  23. But, those blown saves listed may not have come in the 9th inning. (I bet most did not.)
  24. Maybe, if you tell us where you are getting your data, we can respond more accurately.
  25. Brasier only pitched in the ninth inning 5 times last year out of 34 appearances. None after 8/22/18. 7/9 We won 5-0 (Full IP) 7/10 We won 8-4 (Full IP-NO ERs by Brasier) 9/26 We lost 2-1 (Full IP- No ERs) 8/2 We won 15-7 (Full IP- 1 ER) 8/22 We won 10-4 (Full IP- 0 ER) In 2019, He pitched just the 9th inning in 7 of 20 games. He also pitched the 8th as the final inning in losses twice (none of those were blown saves and both had 0 ERs) 9th Inning 4/3 We lost 6-3 (O ER in 1 IP) 4/7 We won 1-0 (O ER in 1 IP) 4/12 We won 6-4 (O ER in 2/3 IP) 4/19 We won 6-4 (O ER in 1 IP) 4/20 We won 6-5 (O ER in 1 IP) (4/21 he pitched the 11th in that 4-3 win @ TB- O ER in 1 IP) 4/25 We won 7-3 (O ER in 1 IP) 5/2 We lost 6-4 (2 ER and 3 Runs in 1 IP for the loss & Blown Save) I'm not seeing anything all that bad in the 9th, except his last 9th inning appearance.
