  1. This team keeps teasing us with false hopes. Our starters suck this year. The pen hasn't helped, but our starters were supposed to be a big strength. They've been a huge let down. No way I even offer Porcello a QO.
  2. I just hope the keep winning vs the Rays, Guardians and A's.
  3. There are literally dozens of pitchers I'd rank higher than Mo.
  4. "He is back..." He has sucked since being back- tiny sample size not withstanding.
  5. Leave it to Dan to drive the stake through Price's heart.
  6. What if we kept...? 6.10 Pomeranz 72.1 IP 88 H (17 HRs) 35 BB 84 K 5.87 Kimbrel 7.2 IP 6 H (2 HRs) 5 BB 12 K 5.29 J Kelly 34 IP 38 H (4 HRs) 15 BB 42 K
  7. I think he meant "Sell!" But I don't want to read to much into his complex post.
  8. Trading him would not be about the return. It would be about the reset. Any return would be gravy. We might even have to pay part of his salary to get any return at all.
  9. Nobody will pay him more, even if he is red hot from here on out. He's not an OF'er anymore. Last night proved that. Look what Big Papi got paid not too long ago, and he played 1B about as well as JD plays corner OF. I'd think sewriously about trading JD and re-setting the tax.
  10. What's also eye-opening is that we're only talking about 91 PA for Beni and 113 PAs for JD with RISP, and that your numbers neglect to point out that JD is being walked in 17% of those PAs. OBP with RISP .398 JD .342 Beni No doubt, JD should have more RBIs, but the OBP of the guys in front of him are not great. OBP by batting slot: 2019 1. .362 2. .391 3. .341 (including JD's .354 in about a third of the PAs at this slot, so much lower when he bats 4th.) 2018: 1. .418 2. .340 3. .353 (.379 by JD in almost half the PAs of this slot)
  11. Nothing could be farther from the truth. I love the simplicity of baseball. I love the intangibles in the game. I also love analyzing different aspects of the game and never feel like or expect others to see or enjoy the game the same way I do. I have OCD tendencies and wouldn't wish that on anyone.
  12. Is that stuff even listed in the papers anymore?
  13. The NYY & TBR stretch overlaps the trade deadline. We may have to make a choice before that stretch is over.
  14. I know! To think anyone can believe a guy that is great for one inning sixty to sixty-five times a year can ever be greater than guys who go 6-9 innings 30-40 times a year is an absurd joke. Now, if he wanted to argue that he was the best at getting a batter out, there might be room for debate. "Best ever" is not only off the table, it's not even in the dining room or the house, for that matter.
  15. Yes, teams win or lose, but for decades and decades fans have argued about which players are more helpful in getting their teams to win vs other players. They've used a long list of stats to try and prove their points while the other guys uses a long list of different stats to try and prove his point. Many times it boiled down to which stats one guy felt were more important than the others. That didn't even include the personal observation aspects to the debates. It's not like that system was fool- proofed. WAR is not fool-proofed either, but it does try to scientifically weigh which stats are more important in creating wins than others and weighs them accordingly. It spits out a single, imperfect number that becomes part of the debate but should never be a debate ender.
  16. The best thing about Eovaldi is that his addition to the 25 man roster will knock Weber off it. I'd still look to trade for a solid RP this minute and knock the next clown off. Give the team 10 days to win or be sold off piece by piece.
  17. I doubt we do a total sell, something that may need to be done to rebuild the farm by having some top picks for 2-3 years, because Henry will always want at least a decent team on the field as we retool. My guess is, we trade everyone who isn't viewed as a useful piece come 2021. That would mean JBJ and Betts (if not extended) along with the 2020 FAs to be. We'd have to look at Price Sale and Eovaldi in light of 2021 and beyond. They may or may not be traded. We can reset while keeping many of our current stars- but not all.
  18. Assume we become sellers and look to reset next year, we could try something like this: Trade all free agents to be who have any trade value and maybe bring back only Holt. Trade JD for the best offer. These moves are not being made to rebuild the farm to respectability. We won't get enough back for that, but it's a step in the right direction and allows us to reset the tax next season. Perhaps, we can look to compete as early as 2021 as we become big spenders again and possibly re-sign Betts. 2020 Projected budget & roster: 31M Price ~28M Betts (last arb) 26M Sale 20M Bogey 17M Eovaldi 14M Pedey ~10M JBJ (Arb 4 of 4) ~9M ERod (Arb 3 of 4) ~5M Beni (Arb 1 of 3) 4M Vaz ~4M Holt (re-signed) ~4M Workman (Arb 3 of 3) ~3M Barnes (Arb 2 of 3) Minimum: Devers, Chavis, Taylor, Walden, Johnson, Velazquez, Marco, Brewer, Leon, DHern, Lin, Dalbec, Chatham & others ~2M Hembree (Arb 2 of 3) We'd even have a few million to fill some slots with temporary fixes or 1 longer term moderate signing, especially if we traded JBJ, too. SP: Price, Sale, ERod, Eovaldi, Johnson or Velazquez RP: Workman, Barnes, Taylor, Hembree, Brewer, Walden, DHern, Brasier C: Vaz & Leon 1B: Chavis & Travis (Dalbec) 2B: Holt & Marco (Chavis) 3B: Devers SS: Bogey (Lin/Chatham) LF: Beni CF: JBJ RF: Betts DH: Dalbec (Chavis/Vaz)
  19. He'd be attractive as a rental, and the option years are not overpays. We'd get a nice return in trade, but what might be more important would be the ability to reset the tax in 2020 and still be able to extend Betts afterwards.
  20. I think I've watched every single pitch of every Sox game for over a decade, but I almost shut the TV off during tonight's game. Pathetic. One step forward- two steps back. (Yes, it was only one loss, but this felt like two.)
  21. I'm more worried about the no-names and scrubs. We do fine vs the best of the best (and the best of the worst, too).
