  1. Would you trade JBJ, Eovaldi & Walden for Familia, W Ramos & Marisnik?
  2. Pretty amazing that the only year Papi led the league in SLG% and OPS was his final year at age 40! (It was also the only year he led in doubles.)
  3. Jake Marisnik traded to the Mets for scraps. There goes one guy I thought we could replace JBJ with at little cost.
  4. I couldn't agree more. Here's what I was able to do playing around on the trade simulator site: JD, Chavis & Duran to the White Sox for Kopech & Collins ©. Betts & Eovaldi to LAD for Gonsolin Price, Walden & $3M (maybe add JBJ) to SDP for Margot & Myers We'd be set up nicely to make a run at Betts for 2021. Lots of budget space and a good rotation with Sale, ERod, Gonsolin & Kopech. We'd be overpaying for Myers, who could play 1B or OF, but he costs way less than Price & Eovaldi.
  5. True, but I didn't want to create 16 categories.
  6. It was not accepted because of being lop-sided not because of the 1.10 difference. It will accept differences larger than that.
  7. They've all agreed to call me, if they are deadlocked. (I suggest the ask Cora.)
  8. Here's how I see our biggest FA signings or re-signings (Some were not all bad or all good- these are overall grades.): This is not a complete list. Add names, if you think of some... Bad to Bust Brad Penny John Smoltz Mike Cameron Clement Jenks Dawson Steve Avery Tony Perez JT Snow Jack Clark Offerman Matt Young Lugo Renteria Sizemore HanRam Rusney Castillo Sandoval Crawford Not Bad or close to Bad Ramiro Ramirez T Saito Dice-K Danny Darwin Pokey Reese Jonny Gomes Ryan Dempster Decent Mike Torrez Jeff Reardon Alex Gonzalez Lackey Cody Ross Adrian Gonzalez A.Aceves A. Ogando Chris Young Price Stephen Drew (first signing) Victorino (first year made it worth it) JD Drew Porcello AGon Fister Moreland Good to Great Bill Campbell Okajima Moncada (Got us Sale) Napoli (first signing) Beltre Foulke (first year made it worth it) Muller Damon Uehara Manny Ortiz J Tazawa
  9. Yes, I'm not for blowing things up, BUT if we trade Betts for prospects (not ML player), then forget about 2020 and just go ahead and blow it up. Trade Price, Eovaldi, JD and JBJ.
  10. Didn't we get the great Leonard Dinardo on rule 5? ...and Josh Rutledge!
  11. It's interesting that Theo spoke freely of the mistakes he made in his later years with the Sox, yet he seems to be making the same ones with the Cubs- granted they were on a serious win-now mission, but that has come and gone several years ago.

  13. They can trade all 4 plus JBJ. It just depends on what we are prepared to pay off their remaining deals or take back in salary dumps. With the massive amount of money saved, we could let Bloom do "his thing" by finding multiple lower cost FAs and bargains by trade. I'm not saying I want to blow it all up, but if we trade Betts for prospects or pre-prime players, why play it half way for 2020?
  14. To me, if we trade Betts, especially for prospects or pre-prime players, we might as well trade all 4.
  15. 1) Everybody's HR/9 went up,last year. 2) Sale's sample sizes was rather small in 2019 to make any projections. 3) His K-rate showed he still has swing and miss stuff- whether fast or not. HR/9last 2-3 years: 0.54>2.48 Eovaldi 1.68>1.27>1.60Porcello 1.09>1.28>1.26 Price 1.01>0.63>1.47 Sale 1.25>1.09>1.06 ERod
  16. MLBTR reports.... Giants To Hire Brian Bannister By Steve Adams | December 4, 2019 at 8:49pm CDT The Giants are set to hire Red Sox vice president of pitching development away to join their own front office, reports Jon Morosi of MLB.com (via Twitter). Bannister’s title with his new organization will be director of pitching, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area tweets. As Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe points out (via Twitter), the new position allows Bannister to live closer to his Bay Area home and spend additional time with his wife and two children.
  17. Blind squirrel. Broken clock.
  18. I know you won't want to hear this, but the numbers back up your and my opinions. Career UZR/150 LF:+1.6 in 3518 innings CF: -3.4in 525 innings Career DRS: LF: +9 CF:-9
  19. Here's a doozy 3-way I just posted on TS: Sox: Pressly, Margot, Marisnik & Myers HOU: JBJ & Walden SDP: Chavis, price, Reddick & $3M (from BOS) We'd then have 4 OF'er, not counting Myers (1B for us) and could trade Betts, if we wanted.
  20. And, Wheeler has a longer and more severe injury history- just not recently. Sale's contract starts in 2020 at age 30. Wheeler will be 29.
  21. I'm hoping for this: Georgia beats LSU close (I don't want Utah, Baylor or OKL to make it.) Wisconsin beats OSU badly Clemson beats Virginia Final Rankings: 1. Clemson 2. Georgia 3. Ohio St 4. LSU That's a nice, but unlikely, playoff schedule. Most likely: 1. OSU 2. LSU 3. Clemson 4. Oklahoma (Utah/Baylor)
  22. Nobody thought we could ever dump Crawford. We could trade Price by paying part of his deal or taking back a lesser salary dump-type player (Price for Myers suggestion). I wouldn't trade Sale. Eovaldi's injury history has not changed much since when we signed him last year, so I think there is a market for him, even if we have to pay some of his contract or take some salary back. Maybe Eovaldi and $2M a year for Reddick and Marisnik, then we trade JBJ & Betts for pitching.
  23. Yes, teams in great need of a SP'er might "overpay" for one of our oft-injured starters in hopes of guessing right.
  24. Well, if we get a good, low-cost ML player or two with 3+ years of team control as part of the return, I can see not including a "top prospect."
  25. Wheeler vs Eovaldi: Last 2 years: Wheeler (378 IP) 23-15 3.65 (107 ERA+, 1.19 WHIP, 3.6 K/BB) Eovaldi (179 IP) 8-8 4.63 (97 ERA+, 1.30 WHIP, 3.1 K/BB) Last 3 years: Wheeler (464 IP) 26-22 3.94 (100 ERA+, 1.27 WHIP, 3.1 K/BB) Eovaldi (179 IP) 8-8 4.63 (97 ERA+, 1.30 WHIP, 3.1 K/BB) Last 5 years: Wheeler (464 IP) 26-22 3.94 (100 ERA+, 1.27 WHIP, 3.1 K/BB) Eovaldi (458 IP) 31-19 4.52 (95 ERA+, 1.35 WHIP, 2.7 K/BB) Even the 5 year numbers are not really close, except for the IP. Still, if Wheeler is worth $118M/5, Eovaldi's deal looks like a bargain.
