  1. I'm quickly losing my optimism. We probably can't wait for the deadline to make a deal. We need pen help NOW! We could use a 5th starter, too, but Eovaldi may make that deal unlikely. I just used the .575 number MVP brought up. I am NOT assuming we can or will win that much going forward as the team is currently constructed.
  2. They could let Porcello, Moreland, Pearce & Nunez walk and trade JBJ. They'd have a little money to fill the gaps, but we'd have to hope Chavis, Dalbec or Ockimey come through. We'd have to hope Holt (assuming he returns) + Chatham can hold down 2B. We'd have to sign a very cheap all glove CF'er. We'd have to hope Eovaldi stays healthy and sign a cheap 5h slot SP'er or hope Johnson, Wright or Shawaryn come through. It's not as impossible as it seems. If not, after Betts walks, we can do it after 2020.
  3. Again, I am not talking about just the last game. The madness is not getting my point about a longer stretch than just last night. We sat Bogey, Beni & Devers vs TBR just a few days ago. Was that my imagination? Moreland and Pearce were out last night (and Pearce was actually getting hot before going on the IL). JD was out before that, and we were resting 1-3 starters vs the Rays.
  4. We are 34-34 after 68 games and have 94 to go. If they play .575 the rest of the way, it's .575 x 94= 54 wins and 40 losses. That makes us 88-74. Right now, the Rangers are on pace to win 88 games. The Guardians are on pace to win 83 games. Is it a big stretch to see us win one more game than the above numbers show or the Rangers to lose 1 more than their current pace dictates?
  5. I'm ok with a day off once in a great while, but not when we had 3 guys out hurt and we'replaying the Rays and Rangers- two of the teams we have to leap frog. We may end up not being able to give anyone as day off the rest of the year. Would that be a terrible thing? We have these scheduled days off the rest of the way (look at all the rest coming up soon and in August): Jun 20 Jun 27 & 28 (rare 2 days off) Jul 1 (4 days off in 12 days!) Jul 8-11 (4 day AS break and 8 days off in 22) We do play 17 games in a row after that "vacation", including the last 10 vs NYY & TB, so I don't see any "rest" give that stretch, unless a poor match-up dictates one. Day off JUL 29 17 games in 16 days including a dblhr with the Yanks (maybe a little rest needed here, but we do have 2 out of the next 5 days off and 3 of 8 off) AUG 15 off 3 games AUG 19 off 2 games AUG 22 Off 2 games AUG 26 off 2 games AUG 29 off 3 games SEP 2 off (6 out of 18 days off!) 10 games SEP 13 off 2 games SEP 16 off (2 out of 4 days off) 13 straight games to end the season
  6. How about this? To:SEA Y Guriel Beni To: BOS EE + Cash Santana To: HOU Moreland B Johnson (IL)
  7. Agreed, but maybe the defense would have saved quite a few runs, and possibly JBJ might have actually gotten a hit with men on base.
  8. Overall (not lately), the pen has done better than the starters. Price & Sale are not enough. We need more consistency from Porcello & ERod. Our 5th starter is pretty much an automatic 6+ runs scored and a likely loss. Here are our ERA- numbers from April 24 to today: 43 Price (1.06) 44 Sale (0.75) 81 Porcello (1.11) 88 ERod (1.29) 109 Weber (1.40) 135 JSmith (1.59) 164 Velazquez (1.55) 191 DHern (2.67) 213 J Taylor (2.22) 11 Hembree (0.81 WHIP) 30 Workman (0.89) 32 Shawaryn (0.17) 54 Walden (0.93) 67 Brewer (1.55) 90 Barnes (1.35) 110 Brasier (1.21) 177 Lakins (1.85) 213 Thornburg (2.22) 230 Poyner (2.40) If we can replace the pitchers in red with Eovaldi and an acquisition or two, maybe our staff would be much better. We still could use a bat, and I'm not sure Moreland's return is what I'm talking about.
  9. It might also help if his posts are based in facts. Last night, he said JBJ is "plummeting," when he couldn't be more wrong. I'm fine with people being wrong, but when you point it out, he never recognizes the mistake or re-states a point. He just name calls. True, I called him a clown several times, and I think that was being kind, after the insults he hurled towards me and others. Sorry, but I just haven't seen the "insight" you speak of. Maybe it was there before us band of board -destroyers joined this site.
  10. Interesting breakdown. I'd have guessed JBJ was better on routes than it shows. He's been first in reaction time for 3 years but minus on route all 3 years. Hmmm....
  11. We've played 68 games. Here are how many games players have not started due to injury and "resting." (BTW, I'm fine with the resting philosophy, but not when we need wins.) Games not starter & Games started (vs RHP/LHP) 2-66 Betts 45/21 3-65 Bogey 44/21 4-64 Devers 47/17 7-59 Beni 45/14 12-56 JBJ 41/15 (was slumping badly and sat some) 12-56 JD 38/18 (was injured) 23-43 Chavis 31/12 (started season in minors) 22-46 Vaz 30/16 28-40 Moreland 36/4 (was on IL & platooned) 40-28 Nunez 9/19 (was on IL and a sub) 44-24 Holt 13/1 (was on IL & platooned/sub) 45-23 Pearce 10/13 (is on IL & platooned) 46-22 Leon 14/8 (was in minors to start season) I remember the days players routinely played 159-162 games, unless they got hurt. We have no players on pace for even 158 games. Only Betts is on pace forplaying more than 155 games. Only Betts, Bogey and Devers for over 149.
  12. Top Sox OPS since May 20th (Cherry-picked date when JBJ got hot): 1.010 JBJ .991 Bogey .973 Pearce (on IL) .949 JD M (Missed time recently) .874 Devers .827 Holt .746 Moreland (on IL) .745 Betts .741 Beni .700 Nunez .679 Leon .591 Chavis .571 Vaz I've mentioned this on other threads, but I think it is past time we start playing the best players every game, without rest, until our team is healthy. We've already rested many players, so playing them now should not wear them out. We have a lot of days off coming up and then 4 days for the AS break, so let's play the best players as much as possible. We need W's NOW! Here are the players Cora has rested over the past few games (listed in reverse order by date): Moreland & Pearce on IL JBJ (lost 9-5) Chavis (lost 4-3) Moreland & Pearce on IL/ JD injured but not on IL Bogey, Beni, Devers, Nunez/Holt (6-1 loss to TBR) Nunez (Betts at DH) win 5-1 (2nd game of DBLHDR) Beni (lost 9-3 to TBR in 1st game) Pearce on IL & JD injured None (lost 5-1) Just Moreland/Pearce on IL None (win 7-5) None (win 8-0) None (win 8-3) We rested nobody for these 3 games vs KCR, then rested a lot vs the Rays! JBJ (win 8-5 v NYY) None (lost 5-3) Just Moreland on IL None (lost 4-1 to NYY)
  13. I'd be fine trading him this winter. His defense appears to be slipping a little, and the cold streaks are too often and too long.
  14. I did and will when they "rested" them. I'll stop mentioning JBJ's hot streak when posters stop saying he's "plummeting" or should be traded or benched now. It's one thing to bash the guy when his OPS is .445. He deserved it. It's another thing to bash him when he's one of our 3 hottest hitters for over 3 weeks. We need to stop resting guys for a while, unless they are showing signs of fatigue. I'm fine with the extra rest idea, so players can be fresh when we need them, but we need them RIGHT NOW!
  15. My point goes beyond last night, when JD was out hurt. Yes, Eovaldi is not a hitter, but when a key pitcher is out, you hope your hitters pick up the slack and are not on the bench resting game after game. I counted Moreland and Pearce as one "key guy out" since they platoon. Cora has been resting our best players left and right at a time where he should be asking them to suick it up and pick up the slack with hope the resting can come later.
  16. It does seem weird that a million times zero is equal to zero times zero.
  17. I mentioned this earlier. When you have 3-4 key guys out (JD, Moreland/Pearce & Eovaldi, you don't sit players for resting. You ask others to pick up the slack in hopes you can get them rest when players are healthy. We've been resting our hottest hitters almost every game, and sometimes two at a time. It's not just the loss of JBJ and Betts' defense that contributed to this loss, it was resting our hottest hitter since May 20th in JBJ.
  18. You can't teach timely hitting. You can't trade for timely hitters. No manager can inspire timely hitting. It just has to happen... and sooner rather than later.
  19. You saber geeks get me!
  20. He should be delegated to grill duty.
  21. Funny how you only show up after a rough patch. How long were you away from this thread?
  22. Does Shawaryn get the next community start?
  23. 10 at $300 is essentially paying him $15M per his last 2 years (years 9 & 10 at ages 35 & 36- hardly old at all).
  24. Stayed even in the loss column! That's a step in the right direction.
