  1. I actually said dont spend on pitchers: trade for one. Spend on a big bat or two (if no Bregman.)
  2. I actually said dont spend on pitchers: trade for one. Spend on a big bat or two (if no Bregman.)
  3. My idea is that we trade for a pitchers, and with the money not spent there, we sign a big bat- Bregman or not.
  4. So, basically, Bregman replaced the Devers money, and there was never any intent to replace Devers' bat?
  5. He filled in for Bregman at 3B then kinda FT'd/ platooned at 2B until he got hurt. Did he actually win the FT 2B job? Maybe, kinda, yes? I do like the idea of having enough FT'ers where Mayer and Campbell start the year pencilled in at AAA, but I doubt we have that luxury. KC, probably, but not Mayer. How do we count on Mayer as a 150+ game 2Bman or SS or 3Bman? Do you suggest we sign a capable back-up for Mayer, who can be as good as he can be? At what cost?
  6. One could argue the platoons made the difference, since we just barely made the playoffs. Over 280 PAs from these two: .978 Romy v L .959 Ref v L The guys who mostly platooned vs RHPs: .864 Lowe (101 PAs) .808 Abreu (349) .732 Yoshida (173)
  7. Campbell is probably best suited for LF or DH, but we have those times three. He may get traded. Maybe the roll the dice on Campbell-Casas at 1B and pray one does well enough. My guess is the roll the dice on Mayer-Romy at 2B and pray for the same thing, but if Breg bolts, maybe the play mayer at 3B. The better idea might be Mayer at SS and Story at 3B or 2B, depending on Breggie.
  8. Rumor was they tried to move Castillo, last winter, and now he's a year older. Their SP'ers did worse in '25, so maybe they have different priorities , but maybe not. Hell, give em Fitts or Harrison with another player.
  9. Could the Sox trade Duran and Abreu- maybe for pitching and 2B/3B, then sign Tucker? LF- Anthony CF- Rafaela RF- Tucker 4th- Jh Garcia Emergency- Yoshida, Romy, Eaton
  10. Yes, and this is one reason I'm not for signing a large and long FA deal with a pitcher this winter. May be sign M Kelly for 1-2 yrs. Trade for pitching and sign bats.
  11. I agree. He signed for: $5M signing bonus, paid 1/15/28 25:$35M, 26:$40M, 27:$40M Bregman may opt out of contract after 2025 and 2026 World Series $60M is deferred ($20M annually), to be paid 2035-46 He is owed: $80M/2, but the deferred money makes the tax hit $31.7 x 2. If he gets an offer for $150M/5 ($30M x 5), he will likely take it. He might get and take $128M/4 ($32M/yr). Is he worth the difference on the back end as he ages? $70M for last 3 yrs of first deal or $$48M x 2 on the second one? I'd probably say good bye rather than match those two offers. Would anyone give him $110M/3? (Basically add year 3 at $30M? How about $105M/3? $120M/4? (He may not take these.)
  12. I fully understand that, but it was still a major mistake. We've done a horrible job on signing FA pitchers since Nate, who I really view as an extension, so we could go back to Price.. Only guys like Wacha and maybe Hill and Perez came close to earning what we paid them. Even the ones who did okay ended up missing significant time. Perez Richards Perez II Kluber Paxton Wacha Hill Buehler Yes, miss on a few, but geeesh!!!
  13. Agreed. Buehler is #3.
  14. He can't be worse than Casas. Impossible.
  15. I'd do both and gladly include others like DHam or Grissom and Sandlin, Mullins, Castro, Bleis or Cespedes.
  16. He hit 49 HRs another year, so I'm not sure it's a major outlier, but yes, there are concerns about repeatability. He also just turned 34. For this reason, he will get a shorter contract, which JH might prefer. HRs nd OPS+ last few years 49/ 126 2025 30/ 115 '24 22/ 103 '23 31/ 129 '22 31/ 82 '21 Ooops! 15/ 100 '20 short season 49/ 131 '19 34/ 136 '18 Last 4 years: 34 Hrs per 162 gms and 118 OPS+ Bregman: 26/ 125 Alonso: 40/ 134 (Turns 31, soon and will get a longer deal) Schwarber: 48/ 134(turns 33 in March)
  17. Romy has 3 arbs to go. He had more PAs (198) vs RHPs than LHPs (143) and did okay (.718 OPS.) I'm not ready to pencil him in as our FT 2B or 1Bman, but he seems like a very good utility player who could be a capable back-up for China Dolls Mayer (if at 2B) & Casas (1B) Ideally, we bring Bregman back, and then we could go with LHB Schwarber at 1B (or Alonso/Suraez) with Mayer/Romy at 2B.
  18. I'd love him back, but I think the RHBs of Alonso & Suarez might be more appealing.
  19. I think we need a big bat. Alonso & Suarez are RHB that can play 1B. Schwarber is a LHB that can play 1B better than Casas. I'll leave it at that. To me, we need one of these three. Don't spend bigly on Valdez, Cease, Gallen, King or any other big name SP'ers in free agency. May be sign G Torres or trade for Marte at 2B. Use the money on a bat and the trade capital on pitching. I can see us signing Merrill Kelly to a 2 year deal. Keep those pitcher contracts short. Even this is probably too expensive for JH: Sign Suarez (shorter deal than Alonso would get) M Kelly and G Torres. Trade Duran, Tolle & Sandlin for Joe Ryan. Pray that Anthony and Mayer (3B) stay healthy all year. (Suarez could play 3B, if Mayer goes down.)
  20. We could involve a third team or use other players for Castillo, other than OF'ers.
  21. My favorite memory might be Chapman's K to end game 1. Rafaela's CF wall ball was up there. A few of his catches, over the season, too. Story's homer... at the time.
  22. Yup. We ran up against a buzzsaw, tonight. Well, we did learn our weaknesses, and at least it's not a half dozen of them. Make a few deals and just cut down on the major injuries.
  23. My guess is we seek shorter term contracts like Merrill Kelly, and then we trade an OF'er for another SP'er like Keller, Alcantara, Pablo Lopez, Luis Castillo or Sonny Gray. No huge contracts. No long term deals to pitchers. The big signing will be a bat- maybe Alonso, Suarez or Schwarber for 1B. Maybe we trade 2 OF'ers and sign Tucker. We might bring Bregman back or trade for Marte- maybe sign Torres, instead. Lots of moving parts. We have some foundational pieces, some low contracts, some logjams and some high need areas, but I think 3-4 major additions and we can be much improved.
  24. So, if the Sox have just one good pitcher... First, Crochet or Chapman are not good. Second, the deadline didn't matter, anyway, because we weren't trading for 12 pitchers. Third, how about or offense?
