  1. There is this assumption that even if JH decides to splurge, he will keep spending more and more in years that follow. Yes, he can. Most think yes he should. Almost everyone knows that no we won't. What he spends now will mean less later. That has been his one constant for over 2 decades of ownership.
  2. They can smile, laugh and say "ooops, I thought JH would not sign even E Suarez, because he's too expensive."
  3. I'm not sure who that prospect is, but I think we should be able to get KMarte for Duran and someone(s) not named Anthony, Mayer, Tolle, Early and Rafaela. I might think about Mayer and Duran, but then we'd need Suarez or Vientos/Bohm/____ for 3B. How about Duran, Mayer and Hicks for KMarte? BTV says minor overpay by Sox. They also accept Yoshida instead of Hicks. (I don't think AZ wants to spend, but they actually save money on these deals.)
  4. Then when I said we dont know what he'll do, because he's pivoted and cycled so many times, they acted like I was defending him.
  5. Exactly. I happen to like Abreu and Rafaela, because they play great D in very difficult positions at Fenway. Since Anthony is as close to untouchable as I'll ever go, it seems Duran is the odd man out. His BTV values is 2nd to Anthony. His D is the worst. His AAV is second to Anthony. He's also the shortest controlled OF'er of the 4 (5, if you count Campbell.) I'm not for handing Duran away or trading him just for the sake of making a deal. I think he's a damn good player and many teams want him. They should give us a lot of value back, otherwise, he's my DH/4th OF'er.
  6. Quite a mood shift on this board, no?
  7. Never bothered me. (I'm used to be surrounded by poor communicators. LOL.)
  8. 1. Hicks (no options) I doubt we DFA or trade him, though. 2. Eaton (1 option) We will be adding an infielder and we don't need a #7 OF'er. 3. Watson (return as Rule 5) It hurst that he has to stay on the 26. T4. Moran (0), Uberstine (3) & Drohan (3) I like Moran more, but being out of options hurts the flexibility.
  9. Top ALE Rotations: 18.2 BOS (5.7 Crochet, 3.9 Gray, 3.3 Suarez, 1.9 Bello, 1.2 Oviedo) 6-9= 2.1 15.1 TOR (3.8 Cease, 2.8 Gausman, 2.5 Bieber, 2.1 Yesavage, 2.1 Ponce) 6-9= 1.8 13.3 NYY (3.6 Fried, 2.2 Rodon, 1.9 Cole, 1.6 Schlitter, 1.4 Warren) 6-9=2.4
  10. Fangraph's 2026 Pitching Projections: 22.1 BOS 21.9 LAD 20.2 PHI 19.1 DET 18.6 TOR 18.1 ATL 17.1 SEA 16.8 KCR 11th: NYY at 16.3 BAT (and D) 29.8 NYY 29.2 LAD 29.1 BAL 28.6 NYM 28.1 TOR & ATL 21st: BOS 21.9 Overall, the Sox are 6th (1 behind SEA, 2.1 behind NYY & ATL and 2.7 behind TOR. I think, if we signed E Suarez and NYY & SEA do nothing (unlikely) we'd pass both for 4th place.
  11. Jovani is about 3rd or 4th down my list, but he is out of options. Time for that 2 for 1 trade.
  12. You mean his 1.019 OPS over his last 9 games and 36 PAs? Okay, tiny sample size. How about .710 last 30 games vs .708 his first 126 games?
  13. Good question. I often frame the same question around any big signing. He is 30. That's younger than most FA pitchers. He's been very good for the last 2 years, but not really that good before. I'm not sure that's a concern. I very much prefer Suarez at $130M/5 over Cease at $210M/7. He may even outpitch Cease. I am pretty sure I'll like him more than the Framber contract. It's hard to compare him to Imai $54M/3 & King $75M/3. I'm happy with this deal. He'll be 34 in year 5. That should not be too bad.
  14. For offense, Romy > Rafaela maybe v L & R and Romy > Yoshida & Mayer v LHPs
  15. Yup, but the Yanks probably get Bellinger. Maybe PHI, TOR or LAD gets Bichette, and the Mets get Tucker. The Sox just fall farther behind but maybe don't drop in the precious rankings.
  16. That's why he's cheaper and MORE likely.
  17. BTV has his value at $35M for 2 yrs, so $17.5M/yr. Duran $82.5M/3 or $27.5M/yr Bello $75.5M/4 or $19M/yr Abreu $56.4/4 or $14M/yr Rafaela $94.2/7 or $13.5M/yr
  18. We passed last year's budget and AAV. Spotrac moved us up to 6th, but we are still $16M from NYY, who might add $30M for bellinger. Tax Payroll: $276M 2026 (6th) $249M 2025 (7th) $226M 2024 (12th) $226M 2023 (12th) $236M 2022 (5th) $208M 2021 (6th) We are $50M over 2024.
  19. That seems about right. With some, it's more like 2 years too long. That's what gets me when people say, but just pay the guy $2-3M more. It's $2-3M more x 5, 6 or 7, and the starting point was an overpay to begin with!
  20. Nobody can say Brez has sat on his hands, even if we have lacked mega signings. Big trades. Big extensions. Major overhaul to the pitching roster and systems. Whole roster nearly overhauled in less than 2.5 years. He's no Bloom... his deadline inactions notwithstanding.
  21. Just don't pat the back of the 12th round pick HOBO.
  22. I've also seen Paredes play live and on TV a lot. He just looks like a real good hitter. He bats RH'd. He has decent splits. He's good on D but not great. We need a 3Bman.
  23. HOU is hard to judge. They have their own views on pitchers and how they can tweek them into more success. They might love Bello- they might not. They might like Crawford or someone else more. They really need OF help. If they viewed Campbell as a LF'er, they might say yes to him. That being said, I think both say yes. Most likely to say no? HOU. The Sox were apparently shopping Bello. I like Bello much more as our #4 than our #3. I keep thinking a Duran + Crawford package should get us something very special. According to BTV, that gets us KMarte, but I know AZ says no to that, but it give you an idea of how they view those two.
  24. We also had Sandoval start no games and traded away Priester and Newcomb mid season.
  25. He's done a few pivots over time, and the Lester loss stung almost as much as Betts. The thing about Betts is we are still waiting for his replacement. At least they tried with Price.
