  1. The knee is not that essential to driving a bus.
  2. He basically whiffed on every FA signing after his the Vic & first Napoli signing. His trades were okay. His IFA signings, other than Castillo, were very good, and his drafts were good, despite one unproductive one.
  3. You seem pretty sure of that breakdown, and I'm not saying there's no significant chance of a steep decline, but to me, Betts will earn his 10 year contract in his first 6-7 years of the deal. Yes, it would suck, if he was horrible the last 3-4 years, but I'd still sign they guy longterm. I think the plan will be to hover around the tgax line until July (No JBJ & Leon, at least at their arb rates), then we'll decide to keep Betts and make a playoff push- perhaps going over the tax line to do it, or trade Betts and maybe others to improve the rebuild chances and quicken the turn around. (Personally, I'd still make him a hefty offer as a FA- maybe $320/10.)
  4. I've always thought the doom & gloom projections by jacko & some Sox fans were a bit pessimistic, but it's nice to know Sale has a heart of a lion. I'm hopeful his next visit with Andrews goes well, and he's given the green light to fully prepare for 2020.
  5. True, but let's let go of this whole Pedey issue. There's nothing to be done about it. The guy tried to come back. There's 2 years left on his contract. So be it. Machado sucks!
  6. ...and he takes up no roster slot.
  7. Wonder how we missed that one before.
  8. Bets dipped and Bogey soared, but one could argue Betts, with his superior defense, was still the best on the team. I won't argue with anyone who says Bogey was better, but I also won't hold that against Betts. I don't think anyone gives him $400M, even if it's for 15 years. My guess is he gets something between $320/10 and $350/10. I'm not sure who will offer that or more.
  9. One could argue he'd have done better in Boston without the money he was given to sign HRam, Pablo and others. He showed skill in building the farm. His downfall was the FA signings. Even his lesser ones bombed: Napoli II Drew II AJ Pierzynski Sizemore Rusney Castillo (IFA) HRam Pabloto Masterson
  10. My point was more directed at fans who would give $240M/6 but let him walk over $320M/10. If none are out there, I apologize for creating a strawman.
  11. Good point. While I try not to get into the blame game on who in management made which calls, I think it was pretty well known BV was not Ben's guy.
  12. Sounds like they must view BC's time in Boston positively. I'm think Ben will do fine in Pittsburgh. I'm glad he'll be in the NL and wish him the best. He made some big mistakes here, but I hold no grudges against him. A ring and a great farm and core left for the next guy.
  13. I get why Mookie would like it, but if he wants $300M/10 or even $320M/10, and I was prepared to give $240M/6, I'd do it.
  14. The Yanks reset and went back to spending pretty large.
  15. Fair enough. I don't usually like deals longer than 5 years, but I think Betts may earn the $300M in his next 6 years.
  16. Hard to say. I want Betts long term, but trading him and then re-signing him seems like the way to get the most. We may end up bringing Leon back after non tendering him. I think Hembree is cut loose, too.
  17. So, is giving him $40M x 6 better than $30M x 10? The difference is $60M/4. Are you saying you wouldn't want Betts at $15M a year for 4 years from ages 33-36? (Looking at inflation and rising player costs, my guess is the $300M/10 will turn out better.
  18. Yess, but leaving out Boggs, leaves out one of the best examples of a Sox player who put up great numbers for 10 years after age 26. I think that was the point. Using Nomar and Rice, two guys that faded quickly as they aged is just one side of the debate. (Although Rice had a great OPS after 26, he did not play as long as the others and faded quickly towards the end.)
  19. I understand, but I think we can reset without moving Bogey. It would mean not paying arb prices for JBJ, Leon and Hembree. We could try to trade Price or Eovalid just to save some of their remaining contracts, but it sucks paying players to play elsewhere. I'd rather trade Betts, reset and try to re-sign him than trade Bogey, even though I value Betts more.
  20. I'd hope they think Bogey's deal is a good one and keep him, but he certainly would be easier to trade than Price, Sale or Eovaldi.
  21. Thanks. Fixed it.
  22. Sox Free Agents... After 2020: Betts JBJ Workman Leon Maybe JD After 2021: ERod Pedey Barnes Hembree Vaz (2022 team option) After 2022: Price JD (if no opt out after 2020) Eovaldi Beni Osich Marco Vaz After 2023: Devers Brasier Johnson Velazquez
  23. Spoken like a true expert with no use of deceptive and black magical sabermetrics, too.
  24. If he gets a GM job, 700 will just have to spill the beans.
  25. I'd hate to lose any of these guys, but many if they are not under team control for more than 2 years, I'd listen to any offer.
