  1. Well said, although it is much more difficult to draft well when winning all the time. The 10 slot draft penalty for going over the max line didn't help either.
  2. Yes, there's a chance we don't reset and try to win it all in 2020.
  3. He's more of a troll than Jacko.
  4. Very true, but we needed to spend large to get Price, Kimbrel, JD and others. We knew their contracts would look worse or bad near their ends, but it was the "price to pay" for the ring. Most bigger ticket FA signings end up badly or are total busts. We've swung and missed a few times (CC, HRam & Pablito), but many of our biggest signings led to a ring(s).
  5. I'm not for trading Eovaldi, this winter. Put it that way. Hopefully, he and Price come back looking healthy and strong, and maybe then we trade them for a better return. If they suck and their stock falls further, we lose little.
  6. No, they don't. Whenever we really needed wins, we went flat.
  7. We can get something for JD, especially if we pay a bigger chunk of his salary than needed. Betts should bring back a nice haul. If we deal one or both, we might as well look to trade anybody and everybody not in our long term plans (waiting on some who's stock is low right now- like Eovaldi & Price). If the plan is to get back to spending big within a few short years, maybe we can get back to near the top faster than some seem to think it might take.
  8. This is his 4th straight good game. I guess that's enough to have some hope. With your rotation, I don't blame you.
  9. I think all my questions are answered on Travis. Time to add Dalbec to the 40 man and give him some looks. I'd even rather see Ockimey.
  10. Nobody is unaccepting of the idea that spending big led to the 2018 ring. I'm waiting for you to name the last time the Yanks won without being the top spender. We have 3 since 2004, although we spent big all those years.
  11. Farm All Star Team http://news.soxprospects.com/2019/09/2019-soxprospectscom-all-stars-position.html Another take... https://www.pressherald.com/2019/09/07/thin-red-sox-farm-system-is-not-bereft-of-talent/
  12. So, if it wasn't for Manfred, we'd have no HRs this year.
  13. I eat trolls for lunch. I have to add a lot of salt and pepper.
  14. I've picked over every AVV, added the player benefit number and we come out under by $2-4M every time.
  15. The Yanks outspent the Sox every year from 1998-2017. The Sox have been the top spenders the last two years, only. The Dodgers were first and Yanks second for the 4 previous seasons (2014-2017). The Yanks were the top spenders for 15 straight seasons up to 2013. Let's not kid ourselves... % Yanks outspent the Sox : 1998: 10.4 (Yanks ring) 1999: 22.9 (Yanks ring) 2000: 18.7 (Yanks ring) 2001: 2002: 16.7 2003: 53.5 2004: 45.7 (Sox ring) 2005: 69.4 2006: 61.8 2007: 32.6 (Sox ring) 2008: 57.2 2009: 64.8 (Yanks ring) 2010: 27.1 2011: 19.9 2012: 14.2 2013: 52.0 (Sox ring) 2014: 44.8 2015: 17.1 2016: 17.0 2017: 1.0 Sox outspent Yanks by this % 2018: 39.6 (Sox ring) 2019: 58.0 Note: 25 man roster numbers: http://www.stevetheump.com/Payrolls.htm
  16. We did win a few without being the top spender. How far back do the Yanks have to go to make that claim?
  17. I'm not sure it's true. I've picked over the budget several times and think we stayed under the max line.
  18. Unless your daddy "only" gave you a "1 million dollar loan."
  19. Gloating with no rings in 9 years is must be enjoyable for you.
  20. AL Only: 550+ PAs OPS Leaders: 1.083 Trout .995 Bregman .961 Martinez .948 Bogey .943 Santana .929 Devers .914 Betts 4 in the top 7!
  21. I hope we keep Cora and Devers. Others should not be traded while their stock is low. Others I want to keep, but the years of team control may not overlap the length of the rebuild, of if it's just by one year, a deal may be worth exploring.
  22. That's probably a major reason he's so successful and the best we've ever had.
  23. MLBTRs reports the Sox will be over the max line, this year. I don't see it. For one, the team exceeded the upper level of the luxury tax ($237MM) in 2018, and are again in position to exceed the new upper threshold of $246MM this season. As per Roster Resource, the Red Sox have a projected luxury tax number of over $257.7MM, putting them in line to face another maximum penalty — a 75 percent tax on the overage, as well as a drop of ten spots for their highest pick of the 2020 draft.
  24. I was one of the first, here, to call for replacing DD. He's just not the GM you want for a rebuild. I didn't know about the trouble between him and ownership, and that may be the major reason for his firing, but I hope we pick someone with a good history of building a farm and developing top young pitchers. Ben got a lot more leeway, but he had a strong farm, and I don't think they held the Tito firing and Bobby V hiring over his head. Apparently, that was on Larry. I can see how people can be shocked how a guy can bring a team to 3 straight division wins for the first time ending with a ring just 10 short months ago, but I'm not shocked at all. It's a great business decision, and that's what makes Henry the best owner we've ever had.
  25. Marco's arb will be small, so I think we keep him. Plus, we need a 2Bman and back up 3B/SS with Holt likely gone. If we non tender Leon or Centeno, we may still bring them back at a lower cost. I didn't mention the JBJ non tender, trade or arb choice, because it's a given and the center of debate for this thread. Betts, ERod, Barnes, Workman, Beni, Marco and Weber will likely eat up almost all of the $56M left under the first tax line. There may be $2-6M left over, unless there's a trade or some of the guys I just listed are not tendered.
